Was messin' around with Nany the other day (giggity) and decided to find the lowest temp at which I could produce vapor. *Note*, my vape runs hot, you'll need to experiment.
I first tried at 3.7 and found that I could get the flavor to come thru (not a full flavor blast though), but still no vapor.
At 4 I definitely got vapor, but nothing very significant; I held a phone light to the stem (figured diffusion in bubbler would make it more difficult to see than the stem), and it produced vapor for probably 3-5 seconds..lol.
At 4.2 I got more of a "hit", but still so so so so wispy.
At 4.5 I could get some nice vapor but couldn't get the bud to get past being green, lol...never really even yellowed, maybe just baarreeelly.
Turned it to 5 and could finish that bowl...Enough to where I enjoyed it...
So...! I pushed the screen about 30% of the distance past default (figuring a regular sized bowl of this temp wouldn't perform effectively), packed to the optimal height (small rounded E-Pic side), didn't tamp down much at all, just a little tapping with the E-Pic to put it at that "optimal height". Kept the temp at 5, getting very satisfyingly big hits. It's interesting, I'm used to getting a milky white chamber followed by a thinning if I continue to inhale, as a result of the bud browning on top and not producing anymore vapor.
Well! When using this method, the bubbler never milks white, but just continuously produces a nice translucent vapor. If I hit long enough, I can still get as large of a hit as I would on a higher temperature, just with a cleaner (translucent) vapor, and with less need to cough. I believe I am accurate in saying those instant milky whites probably contain some irritants in it that could be harmful, (possibly benzene??).
The vapor doesn't thin out much because I packed a little more than usual and didn't tamp down much at all, allowing a nice even heat to the majority of the bud.
Definitely worth a try, as these lower temperatures produce some nice high effects
Keep in mind, you are not extracting 100% of your material. This doesn't mean your bud is going to waste! The lower temperature effects are something you may not be used to, so the stone can sometimes catch you by surprise. I believe these temperatures are more cerebral oriented, but I'm definitely getting some nice pressure release in the temples and eyes (strain specific as well, just thinking out loud). This type of sesh is very nice for early morning or getting ready to clean your house, haha, but don't underestimate it!
I have gotten about 6-7 hits so far out of this estimated .05 bowl...but eventually, even with that nice bright phone flashlight...the vapor will eventually cease to produce. When it does, you'll be left with ABV that is a nice light yellow, definitely not browning at all. SEPARATE this from your regular ABV and re-vape it at night, then cash it later into your regular ABV. When you vape this at night, you have already vaped out the lower temp cerebral effects, leaving you with mostly the sedative effects. **Even though a nice full vape sesh makes it super easy to get comfortable, a rushing head can cause anxiety at night and keep you up. Low-Temp ABV can help solve this late night anxiety.
This went from a personal experience story into an odd tutorial...I'm not proud of the disorganization, haha.
Very enjoyable sesh
