I like this vaporizer so much I will have to buy another one. I don't want to be without one for 2 to 3 weeks or however long it takes to get it replaced. Ace said that it's still fine to use.

That's too bad about your new nano, I understand how you don't want to be without for a few weeks. Use the 420 sale or your registration sale to get another. I would definitely miss mine.

it would be one thing if you didn't mind having a crack but that thing could keep traveling all the way down and then eventually who knows what would happen.
I doubt anything would happen. If the crack goes all the way it would likely even expand/get wider but it would still stay on the vape and it'd be pefectly usable. I can't imagine anyone not g
Would there be any drawbacks with using a converter?
Just extra hardware.

Got my nano yesterday with an hour to spare before the celebratory moment.

I set it up and did a lot of experimenting with the adjust-a-bowl gongs and temp settings. I ended up blackening a lot of herb and cleaned my glass repeatedly to get rid of the nearly-combusted taste.

I finally found a setting that works pretty well if I draw slowly, but I haven't been able to get nice big clouds on a full-lung 5-6 second hit I prefer.

It was my impression that this was possible with the nano, but maybe I misunderstood or maybe there's still an adjustment that could produce that sort of hit.

I've read many dozens of pages on the forum but haven't been able to find anything to help me. Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me dial in the kind of hit I'm looking for?

Have you tried moving the screen down and away from the material, and adjusting your draw speed?

Yes, I've read dozens of pages of this forum so I know the principle of moving the screen up and down and varying draw speed along with varying temp. That's what I did a couple dozen times yesterday, but still couldn't get a good hit with a fast draw without blackening the herb on top.

Any heat soaking?

Yes, it was on at least level 6 for over 8 hours.

Your experiences aren't that unfamiliar @lazylightning - it takes a bit of experimentation to get it right.

The most critical thing I've found is to let your nano sit at temperature for 10-15 minutes before starting your session. I can pull a HUGE cloud at 7 with my Nano (though I usually prefer 6.5 on the dial)

How fast do you pull that cloud? Where is your adjust-a-bowl set?

Here's what I do for big clouds and great flavor.

Turn the unit on at level 10. Let it stay at 10 for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, turn it down to level 6.5. Let it stabilize for 2 minutes at level 6.5.

Next, use your epik to set the distance of your screen. Use the longer side of the pik to push the screen down until the notch in the pik's arm is level with the top of the mouth of the stem.

Add some material into the stem. I actually prefer to use a small solid piece of bud (not ground) when I use the stem. The level of your material can be measured by using the short end of the epik. The pik's arm should be just grazing or hovering above the material.

Then connect the stem to the core and take a long slow draw.

Try using a very clean stem so you can see vapor production and control the speed of your draw based on what you see.

Also make sure you stir every few hits. If you use a piece of bud rather than ground material, poke it after a few hits to break it up, and then stir.

I leave my Nano running at 6.6 pretty much 24/7. I install my basket screens approximately 15mm deep (sometimes a bit deeper so I can load more herbs). But at 15mm depth, I load 0.1g of herb

I toss the nano on top of my bubbler and let it sit for 20 seconds or so to heat up the glass. It does take several seconds of pulling before you can REALLY start milking the the vapor out of the herb, but no more than 3 or 4 seconds (some people with smaller lungs like to "pre-prime" before taking a big rip)

I think setting your temp to 6 might be a bit low for pulling dense visible clouds, try turning it up to 7 and seeing how you feel, dropping the temperature if necessary.

Though after months of cloud chasing like a fool, I'm working on taking smaller rips and holding them longer to get more medicated

What is your distance between the screen and the tip of the heater when inserted? I like to be between 10-15 mm depending on load size, with about 1-2 mm in between herb and heater. At 6.5-7 it's perfect. Dry herb?

I've tried a lot of different settings, but have always tried to keep the herb within 2 mm of the heater since I read that a lot. I tried fresh grinding out of jars with 62% Boveda packs and also tried with pre-ground herb from a few days ago.

I'm going to try to duplicate your settings if you're able to get a full hit in 6 seconds that way.

Edit:

Thanks for all the responses! They're coming too fast to reply to them all but I'm learning a few things I will try.

I understand that a long, slow draw works well. I have other top quality vaporizers I enjoy using that way. But I bought the nano specifically to get the type of lung-busting clouds I get with my MiniVAP. The idea of loading just .025 and clearing in 1 or 2 hits is what appealed to me about the nano.

I have tried temps from 6 all the way up to 9 and every .25 step in between. I haven't let the nano heat soak for 20 seconds before hitting because I was getting so many blackened bowls. I also haven't drawn more slowly for 4 seconds to start the hit since I want my whole hit to last 6 seconds.

I'll be experimenting with these idea and any others yet to come. Thanks for all the input!

I've never found the need to worry about how fast or slow I'm drawing but I use a water pipe. I also think you shouldn't be focused so much on how many seconds things are happening but to each their own. Enjoy the Nano.

I also use a water pipe. It's not that I'm counting off the seconds. I actually had to time a hit with my MiniVAP to see how many seconds it took. My goal is to take a nice full draw at the speed that feels best with my bubbler. That happens to take roughly 6 seconds.

It's basically at attempt to duplicate the feel of combusting a one-hitter bong load. This is the whole reason I bought the nano. I can do this with my MiniVAP but I like the natural wood and American make of the nano and thought it would be a nice less-expensive vape to turn my friends on to this way of vaping.

I basically take all of the above suggestions and add about a 10-20 second heat-soak of the fresh load and then prime vaporization with a few mouth pulls until I see good vapor forming, then lung-pull for about 5-8 seconds for a vapor fill up! Heat settings I use are in the range of 6.5 - 9.5; space between the load and the heater tip is about a nickel's width. :2c::2c::peace:

Ah I see. If you are blackening the top of the herb and not getting the clouds you seek you may just need to load bigger bowls.

Just tried a couple of the suggestions. First I set the screen height with the epick (thanks @Walter Bishop). Then I loaded about .025 of yesterdays dry preground material and it just cleared the short end of the pick. I had the nano set at 7 and inverted for about a 10-second heat soak (thanks @Ratchett & @Snappo) before starting the hit slowly and then speeding up a bit. It ended up being about twice as long as the hit I'm looking for, but produced a beautiful and tasty cloud. I little stir and I got another hit about half as big. ABV looks perfect.

Now I know I can get great, tasty and effective hits. But I'll be doing a lot of testing to see if I can get closer to what I was looking for when I bought the nano. I do notice the effect is a bit different from my pure convection vapes so I'm guessing the 10-20 second heat soak probably means some conduction and more sedative effects as well.
