Cherry wood darkens as it ages, and is exposed to sunlight. I have a cherry floor in my home, and you can see where my rugs have been blocking the sunlight, and the rest of the floor has darkened considerably. So it could be a combination of wax and sunlight that has darkened your PD?
One trick I've learned in wood working is to set cherry wood outside for a day or two in direct sunlight to get a darker, more rich looking piece when finishing naturally. I'm sure there are other species that share this same characteristic with cherry, maybe
@Snappo can spread more knowledge on the subject?
My golden white teak burl nano is beautiful, but it wouldn't upset me if it too darkens or richens up with age.
