thoroughly vaped
Hey everyone, back with an update here! The lady has had the e-nano for about a month now, she hasn't combusted once for an entire week, progress, wooooooo! She had her first real moment of weakness last night, missing the act of smoking and rolling one, but she fought through it. She has mentioned that using the e-nano warms her hands which she loves and tastes spectacular, she NEVER coughs anymore which makes me happy because she's not hacking up her lungs and in pain, and she uses a lot less herb using this vape compared to when she used to roll joints all day. Now the only complaint she's had is it seems to take a long time for her to get there, she will literally sit and vape for about an hour to an hour and a half and it takes a while to hit her, so I think maybe she's doing it wrong so I have come here for some help.
She uses it as such:
Plugs it in and warms it up for about 5-10 minutes on the highest setting then turns it down to 6 and let's it sit for a few minutes. She takes her herb and grinds it then sucks enough to fill the screen and then takes a few hits at that heat and uses the pick to stir, she then hits it again at different heats and works her way up to 9. She has a high tolerance because she's smoked steady every single day for over 5 years now. Now we haven't changed anything with the screen yet to move it closer, she has tried difference inhale lengths and twisting the stem as she pulls, are there any other tips to get her there faster and allow her to really enjoy the experience. Is there a mental aspect to it, maybe letting yourself enjoy it and really taking the time to have fun with it maybe letting you feel better and thus relaxing and letting the herb do it's thing? Any and all tips will be great, should she be putting more herb in then just enough to cover the screen, should she JUST be taking draws until it's brown and no longer pulls vapor at higher heats then putting that in her jar for later use, I do feel like she uses the same bowl, including stirring it, for up to half an hour until it looks like a coffee bean color wise. Could time be a factor too, as in she's only vaped steady for a week, maybe in a few weeks it'll start to hit her differently and to be patient?
Thanks guys, happy holidays!
Hey there, Thrasher. Glad she's getting the hang of it. Plenty of good tips above and have a few more.
First, if she has the patience, do more smaller loads. I also usually find it better to pick a heat and stick with it for a session. If lower temp, save the leftovers and vape at higher temp later. Or, she could go with a higher temp.
Most of this through this thread, but try some of these things. They may not be to everyone's preference, but think they will help get her over the hump of getting the dopey high she is used to from smoking joints.
First, find a favorable temp and stick with it for the session. If she is looking for pain relief, that is probably going to be in the 7 +/- range with a stem (no water piece), but temp settings vary from nano to nano. When going dry I usually stay around 6 on the dial, but I'm looking for a headier buzz and my nano runs a bit warmer than most (I think).
Make sure it is pretty dry and grind it up. The nugs should crumble easily when you lightly grind with fingers. If not that dry, put it on top of cable converter box (on piece of paper or something) or something similarly warm for 1/2 hour or so. Grind doesn't have to be powder, but a little finer instead of coarser will release more actives quicker.
Push the screen up high and use the notch on the e-pic to set at right height. Several posts about this, but in case you haven't seen them - there is a small ledge on one of the "arms" of the e-pic. Set that notch at the top lip of the stem and that "arm" should be screen depth.
Don't overload. Just suck enough up into the stem so that it is close to but not touching the heater. The top of the load shouldn't be more than 2mm away (about the thickness of a nickel).
Put the stem on the nano and let it preheat for about 30 seconds and draw slowly and smoothly. Take 2 hits, then give a stir, then another hit or 2. Then it is done! Or, at least ready for the duff can (more on that below).
Reload and repeat. After 3 or 4 of those loads, things should be feeling a bit better. If she is used to smoking fattys of good stuff, maybe do 7 or 8 loads like this.
One of the downsides of longer sessions like this with a stem (no water) is it can get a bit harsh on the throat. Plenty here in this thread and on FC about vaping through water. It is worth it IMO. Smoother hits aren't as harsh on the throat, and think the moisture allows you to take bigger hits every time.
Save the ABV/duff in an airtight, dark container. Use it for edibles. Many ways to ingest it (I like to make butter or oil to cook with). The beauty of this stuff in her case, is that many of the "heavier" cannibinoids will be in the duff. These give most people a heavier sleepier buzz.
It usually takes people a while to adjust to vaping instead of smoking. The buzz is different, and a person's tolerance can have major affects. After a couple weeks of just vaping, this should work itself out. Well worth it IMO!! Not just for the health benefits, but for quality of buzz and more than anything - efficiency. Think she'll find that her stash will last 2 or 3 times as long as it did. Plus she and the smoking area won't reek so much of weed.
From what you say in your post, it sounds like maybe she has been loading a big load and just working it for an hour or so. Even a bigger load isn't probably going to go more than 10 hits. And, if her duff is coffee brown, sounds like she is taking many hits and not getting too much out of a good bit of them. With smaller loads, reloaded more often, I think she'll see quite an improvement. And, again, the duff is fun to play with for edibles.
Hope this helps! Feel free to hit me up with a message for more details or info on any of this.
