BACKGROUND
So for a while now I’ve had this gripe with the vaporizer industry that there aren’t any “pipe” style vapes yet. Ever since switching from combustion to vaping over 10 years ago, I find myself missing the “smoking pipe” experience. Most of the best vapes on the market look more like walkie-talkies. It wasn’t until I found FC and dove into all of the “wood” creations that I realized there may be hope for a pipe style vaporizer.
DYNAVAP
I was first introduced to a Dynavap VapCap about a year ago by my brother. He got me a Ti Woody S because he thought it was something I would enjoy and I had never heard of Dynavap before. At first I thought it was okay but not really my style, I mainly use a Volcano and prefer convection. I have never been a fan of butane or any vape that you can easily burn yourself or the flower with. I put it away and forgot about it until a few months ago when I saw all of the custom stems being made for the VapCap tips. I then had a lightbulb idea moment and realized the VapCap tips could be adapted to work on a pipe.
THE DYNAPIPE
A bit ago I posted here that I found that a certain Marley Natural smoking pipe that I already had sitting around collecting dust could be taken apart and the stem perfectly fit on the VapCap tip. I then decided to take my idea even further. Disclaimer: I have zero previous experience in woodworking or building anything really, this was just a pet project.
I had a hole drilled into the bottom wood section that is the right size to fit the VapCap tip in snugly. I then drilled tiny holes around the edge of the bottom wood section and inserted magnets into the holes.
Next, I went out and bought a nice piece of walnut wood to create the bottom section. I drilled a nice sized hole into the bottom section of wood so it would fit the VapCap tip and have enough room for air around it. There’s also a smaller hole on the base that allows airflow into the wooden chamber. I drilled matching holes into the bottom section and inserted more magnets.
Once I had the top and bottom of the housing done I had a now fully functional Dynavap vaporizer pipe aka the “Dynapipe”. I have since purchased a Pipes IH so I just dip the tip in the heater, pull it out, snap on the base, and vape away. It is one extra step so there is a bit more hassle than just using a stem. But there is almost no chance of burning myself on the tip either. I feel the wood housing also creates an extra level of insulation so the tip takes longer to cool down, not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.
I plugged the original “bowl” with a piece of high temp silicone.
Overall, I like it. I still don’t find myself using it like I do the Volcano(very different vapes) but I like knowing it’s part of my vape collection.
I’m posting it here just in case anyone wants to create their own or improve on it or even inspire me with better or different ideas for it. I have about 2-3 more ideas for different versions/ways of making a dynapipe. I might try creating those next. Or maybe it could inspire George or Ed to come out with a dynapipe version/accessory, their craftsmanship and ingenuity is far more advanced than mine.
