w00t! M7XL has arrived! It came packaged separately, a condenser/MP and an M7, fwiw, plus the M+. Having grown accustomed to the twig, I was prepared to be disappointed. No need, it's really, really nice. The texturing is less subtle than the photos show and it really looks pretty spectacular and well done, is plenty grippy, and the spiral lives on (if you take off your glasses the spiral looks 3D!). They've done an excellent job of making the M look great in either orientation.
The condenser extended one notch is a bit more open than the M+. I'll have a few puffs and report back.
Edit: I don't think the MP has a taper but it does fit and function decently in a 10mm joint. First roast was half-inch flame held about 2/3 down the cap, spun to the clicks, production was voluminous. I got a few good hits from that first roast! AVB is light brown and completely uniform. This may represent improvements in the design. Let me check again.
Edit 2: The texturing is really pretty functional and the extra length makes this a better M experience. I was afraid it would be too heavy but it's not bad at all. I'll have to try the MP in my other Ms.
Edit 3: Finished the first bowl in about 2.5 roasts. Flavor was unremarkable except that it didn't degrade as obviously as usual. The first and second heats were big and smooth, several hits each, not notably warm. The third hit was a weak cleanup. AVB was deep brown and pretty uniform. My feeling was that the M+ represented a return to a more aggressive M tip and I think this follows suit, but the first session at least seemed like a smoother experience. I feel reasonably confident that my assessment will bear out; this seems like a fine M to me!
Edit 4: took out the XL MP and had a bowl standard M style, found it consistent with the first: a few big, comfortable hits per heat, two heats and a cleanup. The avb is a little lighter this time, but spent. As an M, it's pretty great, and I think people who want a big hit will enjoy this one. I found the flavor unremarkable but I will try another strain later and see how it does.
