This is my further thoughts on the subject....again, caveats in effect about this being my view that guides my behavior and NOT a judgement about what anybody else should do.

I think we all (or at least the adults among us) recognize that as drivers we have a very great responsibility to others on the road to drive safe and sober. If you have ever lost anyone to a drunk or reckless driver, this lesson may be more poignant to you than perhaps to some others. But the fact is that behind the wheel we are in charge of a multi-thousand pound, fast moving, projectile and if not controlled we can easily be responsible for someone's death or injury.

I also shoot clay targets. Now I know that most of the guys I shoot with could easily handle a gun safely and well even with a couple/few beers in them. But we don't because if we did so we would not be handling these guns in the most safest manner possible.

So, for me....I don't view the quality and safety of my driving under the influence of any intoxicant as being equivalent to the quality and safety of my driving when entirely sober. And I feel that I have a great responsibility to others to operate my vehicle on shared roads most safely and responsibly as possible.

That's it. Cheers

I totally agree with the Baron's point.
Sadly however my own situation is very unique ,as a former motorcycle racer, I tend to drive a bit aggressively when I'm
not vaped and very mellow and cautious when I'm high.
Case in point , every accident (fender benders) I ever had , 3 in 45 years of NYC
driving, I was totally straight.
Go figure

Personally i drive high most the time(not vaping while driving bacause thats a literal distraction which people already have to much of), I think this all matters on how "good" your motor skills are when making quick decisions when driving. the problem i see with most my friends or anyone that i know that smokes drinks or whatever they do is the fact they cant drive period(before they smoked, drank) to my personal standards.(which are high because i drove trucks) Most people in cars are in their own little world without anything altering their minds in the first place.(if thats you i wouldnt drive high) Like if you've ever questioned your driving capabilities, dont drive stoned its easy. i guess its all just a matter of prefrence vs right and wrongs

Sometimes if I get on the highway the direction to my work at the same time I normally go but have to get off at a closer exit, I just drive right past the exit. Without using anything. I'm still paying close attention to my and other people's vehicles and driving safely, but not the road signs because I am used to doing the same route daily and it's hard wired into my brain.

My best is when I'm planning a trip over 2 hours and I'm full of stuff. Great feeling !

Lack of sleep, stress, hypoglycemia, coffee, most meds, the list goes on and on. And comparing it to drunk driving is a classic false analogy. If you are an unsafe driver combined with whatever then don't do that.

I know people that are a worse (but legal) driver at their best than I would be hung over with no food and sleep in 24 hours. But I am a special snow flake anyway! Plus with bad PTSD and pain issues (and THC adapted) I am safer medicated that not.

they say im crazy but i have a good time
... i didn't know if i should start a separate thread for this or not??

What Vape(s) do you use while driving?

... butane vapes (for me) are a hassle. too bad because i love my lotus.

So far my favorite driving vape is the CFX because of the quick heat-up
and i can pre-fill ELBs, and there easily filled while "busy"...

Whats your vape of choice while going down the highway?
(assuming your not a passenger)

@just_the_flu I think you should start a new thread or a mod should move this to new thread, I'd love to talk about vaping and driving, but not the moral, or ethical issues with it anymore ...

I would worry about upetting people on this thread, as many don't agree with it, so I think out of respect it should be discussed elsewhere, what do we think??????

And how will I know if a new thread is started by either you, or a mod?????

Can someone let me know please.....

I won't drive "stoned" but I do EVERYTHING "medicated." There certainly is a level of herbal inebriation that makes me personally uncomfortable to drive for a variety of reasons but the vast majority of the time if I am operating a motor vehicle I have imbibed some THC. On the very few occasions in my life where I have found myself needing to drive but too high, I immediately judged myself so when I sat behind the wheel and proceeded to listen to music and chill for half an hour or so till I mellowed enough to feel groovy driving.

I don't usually partake while actually driving, not because I'm against it but because I've not found a satisfactory device that isn't a hassle to use/load while driving. I'm not a talented knee driver, I need my hands. Being so, getting too high while moving has never been an issue.

I medicate all day to keep the shaking spasming and pain down. Considering I can't drive well with muscle spasming in my foot and arms not a lot of choice. I rarely drive anymore but feel cannabis allows me too when I need too.

Really should be like other pain meds. I can have a oxycodone script and oxycodone in my system and legally drive. Why not cannabis?

Do you mean hitting a vape while steering a vehicle? That sounds like 'distracted driving', and probably worse than texting-while-driving, esp. if one gets caught.

I'm high most of the time and sometime I happen to drive a car. I just imagine how many people the police man will tell me I ran over.

Though I don't approve of driving whilst high, I found a reference to a study that indicated one person did drive better that way. From CANorml (last paragraph under blood tests section):

"Although high blood THC is a fairly good indicator of being under the influence, it is not infallible. Chronic users who develop tolerance to THC may in some cases drive safely with very high blood levels of THC. In one study, a subject with severe attention deficit disorder could not pass a driving test while straight, but performed well with a blood level of 71 ng/ml [Strohbeck-Kühner]. No similar phenomenon is known for alcohol."

The thing ya'll don't mention is this driving topic is the Super Hit. I don't know about you but one of the main fascinations with vaping is the Super Hit. You inhale and you don't remember taking hit. It is a slow return of consciousness and a returning awareness of ahhhhhhhh. The vapor hangs in the air like a Peter Max 60's poster. A reboot or rush if you will. I don't get this everytime. But I get it several times a week. Don't know when, just know it is possible. I could drive after that but not during. This prevents me from vaping and driving.

I have never taken a car ride in my adult life longer than 5 minutes without partaking in the cannabis :sherlock: I find it reduces the stress from traffic, the chance of road rage is 0% and I am much more pleasant when I arrive.
I also can take 6 dabs back to back and play off that I'm not even high and make anyone believe it (even though I would be) . THC is not overwhelming to a lot of us. Especially those of us daily tokers with a tolerance. Even several dabs wouldn't impair my driving at all.

Article on DUI and Cannabis Use

I'm not jumping in on either side of this debate, but this factoid was interesting to me:

"The findings are that if marijuana has an impact on someone's impairment, it is a short-lived impairment or a nominal impairment, especially compared to alcohol," said Paul Armentano, deputy director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. "It was almost statistically insignificant."

Armentano said studies also have shown that drivers who are high on marijuana tend to engage in compensatory driving behaviors such as making fewer lane changes, reducing their speed and increasing the distance between themselves and other cars. He said it plots lowest on the spectrum of impaired driving.

Savela said it depends on the tolerance level, but studies have shown marijuana smokers drive better than the aggressive and overconfident alcohol drinkers and drivers.

"They tend to drive slower and more cautiously," Savela said. "The one place when they are worse than everybody is with an emergency situation and that's a proverbial 'kid running out in the road.'"

Not saying you are doing so, but I don't like when people use the "lesser evil" argument to make something seem ok. Plotting lowest on the spectrum doesn't mean it didn't plot at all, and being better than a drunk driver is pretty obvious for most, but still doesn't mean better than sober.

Also, the last quote is a bit unnerving, because those are the kinds of situations people most fear when supporting the banning on high driving, not driving smoothly on an open road for miles with 100' in between cars. I'm curious what the "everybody" encompasses, tho. Does it include drunk drivers, tripping drivers, other hard drugs?

Frankly I think it's more dangerous to drive in the rain.

So far as reaction times, I take it you would support a yearly test of physical competency, fully revoking driving privileges from anyone who doesn't pass? That seems like getting to the source of the issue much better than guessing at someone's state of mind.

Thankfully I suspect the problem will be solved for us in our lifetimes. Self driving vehicles will be the greatest boon to civilization since the polio vaccine. Everyone worries about the intoxicated drivers but the sober ones seem plenty scary to me.

I would be cool with a yearly physical competency test. I think far to many bad drivers are given licenses, and should have them revoked.

I am definitely looking forward to self-driving cars. It should make the roads a lot safer, eventually, and makes traveling even easier.
