Finally hooked my mods up to glass. Loving the 18mm mod connected to a 14mm female adapter on a 18mm male joint.
But using the micro 14mm connected to the same setup has far too much drag.
Do you all use the 14mm mod with glass? I can't see this resistance coming down enough to be comfortable. I am using 7th floor whip material on the 14mm mod rather than the DDave silicone but that shouldn't make this much difference, amirite?
Weird. Could it be the glass? This is what I am using.
Certainly not drag free but works OK with 18mm mod. But with mini-mod it is tiring. I wonder if it is the 14mm step down and the smaller mod...plus maybe the non-silicone tubing all add up.
Do I need to look for a drag free type piece? Will the usual suspects in the cheap bubbler thread suffice?
I will make sure tonite but the 14 is all I was using and seemed very comfortable. I like the small bowl size and hadn't noticed anything.Nice piece!
Narrow down the issue by trying a dry hit. No herb loaded in the 14mm basket or adapter. See if the drag persists.
Cool, look forward to hearing back on testing.I will make sure tonite but the 14 is all I was using and seemed very comfortable. I like the small bowl size and hadn't noticed anything.
Do you sell replacement parts? Because I could use a few odds and ends plus silicone. Trying to decide whether to move waterpipe adapters to 18mm only.
I have one more piece that might have less drag and will experiment.
I don't like it because it has to be held very level or the percs are bypassed. More for an enail
Thanks for testing! Have two suggestions, well one and second is part suggestion part question..until I insert the packed screen.
Apologies for the delay. Investigating international shipping options is extensive and tedious.@DDave I think I might have to go via the route of my buddy in New York as I seem to be getting no response to my post above
Will try the coarser grind and nug and see if that helps. I am able to clear the glass by pulling the adapter out...it just gets complicated as I am sure you know. A carb fitting there would work too but I am thinking if I want to hold my finger there to take a hit also. Thanks for testing! Have two suggestions, well one and second is part suggestion part question..
* Grind... in the 14mm Basket screens, the finer the grind, the more resistance. Can you try a much courser grind or throw in a single mini nug? (The mini-nug whole vape method introduced by @stickstones is awesome as flavor is amazing! You'll still find you're able to get good extraction as well).
* If it's clearing the glass and you're using my whip-water tool adapter, can you lift that end from the female connection on the water tool and clear in that manner? That is the portion I lift to clear my glass.
I like it!I started trying this out for an all-glass direct draw.

Works pretty dang well and avoids the spillage/unintentional heating when I used the LSV heater cover.
And this had me laughing!-Overpriced J-hook from local shop
That will work, but my original MiniELB was made with 1 dome screen, and 1 elb cap that had been manipulated a bit. You won't get the same effectiveness IMO without the cap being inverted like I explain below...You have the correct dome screens linked though!
"Here are some pictures...
In the picture above, the top two squares show a regular ELB cap and the bottom two show an Extreme Q Elbow screen. Notice how the diameter of the steel rim of both bowls is the same, but the EQ elbow screen is slightly larger in its capacity, due to design.
In the picture above, the left hand side shows a regular ELB cap on top, and on the bottom, the ELB cap that I inverted with the sharpie. The pictures on the right hand side show the inverted cap as well. To get the cap to look like this, set it upside down like the cap in the top left of the above picture, and take the end (not the end with the cap) of a sharpie, and push down in the center firmly. You can push and mold the edges to fit into the EQ elbow screen better.
There are three reasons for inverting the cap the way that I did.
1, it makes the cap more shallow, so it doesn't push as far into the bowl(EQ elbow screen) leaving room for medicine. you can't really pack meds in the EQ elbow screen, and put the cap in, unless the cap is inverted like shown above.
2, it leaves room, so you can pack a shallow bowl, as shown below, or a full bowl, as the medicine can go up into the underside of the cap.
3, it makes the caps diameter slightly larger, allowing it to fit snugly into the bowl (EQ elbow screen)...it won't stay in the bowl at all otherwise.
In the picture above, you can see the assembled Mini-ELB (EQ elbow screen+mangled/inverted ELBcap) with a regular ELB/caps for comparison.
And in this final picture, above, you can see the MiniELB loaded, and in the Cloud." - MiniELB Tech
Edit*** I just realized that @SlinginPaint's post was in reply to @2 Paces saying there are no ELBs available anywhere...So, my reply, saying you should make the MiniELB with a dome screen and ELB cap is kind of non applicable. So, to anyone in need of a bowl now, and not in possession of any regular ELBs/caps, do as @SlinginPaint suggested, and manipulate the two dome screens to fit together. Possibly following the tech I posted, but using the two dome screens instead of 1 dome/1 cap, one might get the same results!
Another alternative, that won't produce quite the same results, where the herb is farther from the heater and no longer enclosed in a ELB like stainless mesh bowl...is @vtac's All Glass Bowl solution! (quoted below...expand it for the pics!)
Didn't they show this as a preview just before "Return of the Swamp Thing"?Return of the overpriced J-hook
I use the minimod with water everyday, but it requires a different draw tech
I think that is key. The problem is mainly clearing the glass and whipI find small bublers are the best.
