the pictures are an older model that got 25 F hotter and the discontinued White housing discolored at high temps it didn't melt.

To be honest with you swift6912 can't tell you why yours is 'off gassing' or smoking but if mine was I would send it back also. The old reported problem was 'off gassing' from the mica used around the chamber( not toxic but not wanted either), supposedly fixed.

I've owned a couple DVs and gifted 1/2 dozen more and none of them have smoked or off gassed at all so you ought to be able to get one that doesn't. I hope.

Ok have you seen Venti's post on page 25? It might be that also.

I just re-read those posts. I see what was being said as a possibility but it was never proven. A few People have reported having this issue but lucky for the rest of us very few.

Knowing why would be cool but just having a unit that works as it should would be better for you then knowing.

Only fix is to get another one under warranty if less then a year old.

First, we recognize this is likely the attempts of our competition who is not happy over the success of the DaVinci and we don't take slander lightly. DaVinci took great care to provide a safe air tract. The wire insulation is high tempo food grade silicon rated to 482 F/250C as are the seals and mouth straw.

In the event your unit is unsatisfactory, please return for a full replacement. DaVinci can also boast that our defect rate on our first production run is less than 1%, which greatly trumps the industry standard in electronic devices.

NO , were all customers and tell us why the damm thing out gasses once and for all.. Stop hiding under your lame "we recognize this is likely the attempts of our competition" comments!!

OK.. Regardless the fact that you say it's safe, are you telling that the smoke coming out doesn't bother you? It's not vapor it's smoke!! Isn't this forum suppose to be FUCKCOMBUSTION???

I have no issues with mine. Very minor visible vapor when new, 'new tennis shoes' smell from the packaging, but that was all long ago. When dirty it tends to smell when cold and will show vapor when hot and 'empty' but I kind of expect that.

While my unit might be different than yours (or anyone ....), it's also a matter of personal values I guess? I mean some guys stuff good bud in a bong and put fire to it.......

I hope you find a vape that 'fits your pistol'. Have you considered Solo? I think it has a lot to offer a wide spectrum of folks. A bit bigger, but IMO much easier to use and maintain. A true all glass vapor path you can soak in ISO or boil to get 'cleaner than new'.

Good luck in your quest.

You're very welcome. I bet you take to it better. My DV started getting lonely when the first Solo came..... I still like to haul the DV out for a round or two and all but as a tool for extracting vapor I think the Solo fits my (and most guys) needs better.

Hey, don't go by me though......after all I'm a Vapman fan you know.

Remember to fully charge the battery before use, and most guys recommend a couple 'step 7' (full blast) burn off sessions but I've broken in several and never found anything to burn off. Chicken soup, though, "can't hurt, might help".

Regards.

My cousin bought a Da Vinci on my rec, but he says his brand new DV unit doesn't work like mine did when I let him try it at the Holidays. My cousin, doesn't like to trouble shoot over the phone, so I haven't been able to help him much with his issue. He says his vapor tastes/smells like bad cardboard. I hope to go visit him in the next month or so and figure out what the problem is.

I have almost a year with my DV unit (well, this one was a replacement I received in the summer). Now that I have my desktop DB unit, I haven't been using my DV as much. I tried to take it on an outing or two recently, but now my DV unit has stopped charging. I certainly hope my problem is just the charger. I thought I might check it with my cousin's DV charger when I visit.

I was looking at my unit's seal, and it too looks chewed around the edge (I am never rough with it, but it looks very similar to this).

The unit and accessories are out of warranty by this point, right? I'll have to buy a new charger and accessories kit if the charger is the problem. That is easy enough to figure out. I know how much that is, but does anyone know the cost to have a 2012/2013 Da Vinci repaired by Karma? Even if the DV is not the problem, I think I'd like to have that seal replaced before it disintegrates.

Too bad the cousin is off to a rocky start. Perhaps the bud? I once had some very bad results, similar I think, when I tried to vape some poorly cured bud a friend gave me to try. Tasted like burning yard waste smells sort of. Made a mess of the vape as well (different vape, but I bet the effect is the same). Anyway, has he tried the herb he used before?

The DV charger is an odd size plug and odd (higher than normal) voltage. Pretty unique. Although IIRC they sell a car cord, so 12 VDC should charge with the right connector? I've never tried with mine, has anyone?

I use the car charger for my DV. It works well but I think the wires that connect at the plug are giving way. In order to keep the charging cycle running, sometimes I have to wiggle the plug to make a good connection.
This is my 2nd DV and it is my daily driver. It holds up well for 3-4 sessions each day, stays charged in a cold vehicle, and medicates quite well at 400. Never looked for offgassing, too busy drawing in vapor. If anyone has the W9 nibbler, this little beauty slides down over the DV stem to provide an effective and compact water cooling effect.
The DV also lets you use while charging so if I notice that it is taking a little long to get to temperature, I plug it in and it tops out real quick.

Look at the picture on the sears listing closely and you will notice the button on the door. That means this is likely to be the pre-2012 version with the older closing mechanism (before the magnets were used for closure). Looks legit to me, old models often drop in price.

I'm not sure I'd put much stock in a dated picture some non vape user put on the web page. Before Amazon pulled the plug on MFLB you could buy pictures of the original boxes (no o-rings or lights) several years after the conversion.

Sears is a retailer of huge size, long experience and solid practices. They aren't interested in odd lot leftovers, they establish multi year contracts before they go to the expense of offering a product. They know how to do this stuff.

Many years back I worked for a company that supplied florescent lights to Sears, both for catalog and retail sales (different packaging). About 35 or 40% of our volume, but declining slowly. We had to contract for two years half a year out (6 months left on the old contract) at a price below our wholesale, even to Fleetwood Industries who would buy bigger lots (sometimes) but on a shorter term basis.

And we had to produce 'their color', we had to use special off white ('rich cream') for the molded plastic parts and special packaging (either hang bags for retail, or heavy individual printed (there art of course...) cardboard boxes for catalog, the Fleetwood and our other wholesale lights were bulk packaged (and we got paid more for them......).

One thing sure, if it's Sears and not the newest version (or whatever one you want really?), just hand it back and get your refund.

Kind of an exciting development, IMO. I wonder how long before they have a vape section in the mall?

I find it easier to use with less worry.
I borrowed someones ascent a few months ago to try one out and didn't care for the glass stems and the care that needed to be taken with them. I like the shape of the Davinci better as you can set it down and it stands up, the ascent was awkward for me to load because I had to hold it in one hand all the time. I got much denser vapor out of my DV then the Ascent I used with no stirring or adding glass spacers to get an even or completely vaped bowl.

There was a reason people waited on the ascent to be released and that it generated so much buzz around the vape world and that's that the original Davinci was a great vaporizer and in my opinion a game changing device.

The DV still impresses those I share it with and has lead a few people I know to embrace vaporizing.

Aren't you concerned that 1\4 of the vapor density you're getting is partially food grade silicone vapor?

No not in the least, The DV would have a meltdown before it got hot enough affect the silicone, you use silicone for the Bowl of an Underdog and other log vapes.

Silicone is safe and inert at these temps that is why it's widely used for high temps in food and medical applications and vaporizers.

Even if its not toxic i wouldn't want a vaporizer that has a foreign vapor coming out of it
