Look what I found under the Cannamas Tree for 4/20! I'm glad I left out cookies for Willie. Tomorrow or the next day I'll receive my pump. Then what? "A Journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step" (Panama Red).
I am usually experimenting until I get the flavor and consistency I like.

So the temp and pressure you extract at will affect the consistency of the rosin, like whether it becomes a shatter or a budder? Is there any pattern that you notice?
So thought i'd share some updates and what has worked for me based on what i have read on in this thread.
I picked up a work table for 70 dollars off amazon, really nice, and collapsable as well. Fits very well in the closet, my vape desk is outside the closet.
Today did my second and third presses.
Used up the last of some old stuff for my experimenting. The second press was abourt 1.3 grams and i used a filter bag. Small amount so couldnt really do the math to get pressure on the puck, since i didn't make a puck out of it this time, but the gauge was around 2k for the first press and 5k for the repress.
I learned do not go that high on the repress, it will tear the parchment. So maybe max 4k to 4.5k on the gauge.
Second press i did not use a bag and still same amount about 1.3 grams. This time i put it in my keif press to make a nice shape. and it works really well for these small amounts 1 to 1.5 grams, prolly could do a little more I think i agree, for small amounts like this bagless is best/easiest. First press was around 2k, and second was about 4.5k. Very little tearing on the parchment if any.
Overall got about 10% back again. I think that is pretty good for how old this stuff is. After i use up the .25 grams i got out of it i will try another strain i have that will be newer and maybe fresher. I do keep all my stuff at 62% humidity and monitor with hydrometers.
Also, I agree i think doubling up on the parchment is best. With my 2nd press, it tore the parchment that it was in, and the second parchment contained the rosin the spilled out so it didn't go to waste. The first parchment in there i used the magnets to hold it and then just slid the other parchment with puck in.
Gotta say i really like pressing and will have a lot of fun with it. The flavor is also very good, much like the first hit or two off a vaporizer and very true to the plant compared to the concentrates i have. Also, having the work table makes it much nicer compared to when i was trying to use it on a shelf. Now i just open the doors, pull out the table and plug things in and its ready to go.
O, almost forgot. Picked up a cheap thermometer at target. Checked the plates they were maybe 5ish degrees off, so pretty darn good. I also didn't have the thermometer in there real snug cause i didn't want to hurt the plates, so that could maybe contribute as well.
500 for the 10 ton bundle, 70 for the pump and gauge, and 70 for the worktable. Total, 640 for an amazing set up that will last a very long time.
Thanks again everyone and happy squishing.
EDIT: Forgot to add. For this second and third tries, i was pressing at 200 F, even the repress. Think next time i will do 200 for first press and 220 or so for a repress.
Nice. Sounds like you are on the right track.
My experience is similar to yours with doubling the parchment, especially on the repress. Nothing worse than seeing half your rosin bubbling on the plates because of a tear.
Do you mind linking to the work table you got?
You can go a lot lower on your pressure LongDraw, but I am curious, what does your material look like at that pressure? Are you getting shattery rosin returned? I imagine it is going to be pretty glassy.
Can I use this as a Panini machine?
just kidding
The Amazon feedback on this table is not good, one good one from a DIYer that barely uses it and the rest are bad, ad says 1000lb but instructions say 400! Plastic handle breaks. hinges too, so $50 sounds about right. This is on Amazon Australia for just under $500Anyone interested, I found that same folding table at Costco today for $50...
.
Some help please, I've confused myself with too much information. Been through this thread and several other pressing threads and through multiple sellers site and still somewhat confused.
I'd appreciate it if you could answer a few questions and recommend a Dabpress bundle based on my needs.
.
I'm not going to have to press more than a gram or two of flower at a time, or 7 grams a couple times a week.
I have a half gallon of trim every two months to press at my leisure. Maybe 100 grams of grade A trim. It'd be nice to be able to do this in 15 loads of 7grams rather than 50 at 2 grams per.
Should I get a press with a pressure gauge?
.
I'm sure that I'll come up with a few more questions, any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your informations! That's a nice table @LongDraw another customer of ours has that and has recommended it highly due to the hand clamps for using pre-press molds and easy storage, price, weight, etc =)
Regarding pressure, just remember flower does well at 1000-1200 PSI at the bag, so to achieve that you can do the math to figure out how much PSI to use at the gauge for your pucks (PSI on gauge x 2.25 = total force applied / surface area of puck in sq/in = PSI at the bag)
ex: 5000 PSI on gauge x 2.25 = 11250 total pounds of force / 10sq/in puck = 1125 PSI on the bag
Pressing much over 1200 PSI at the bag is going squeeze out plant matter, you may or may not mind it, but I recommend to do your first pressing in the optimal range, and save excessive pressure for re-presses where you may not want the plant matter in your dabbable rosin.
@Sick Vape Hard Anodized 6061 aluminum can hold up to quite a bit of pressure, more than we apply for our use. There's no definitive hardness on the actual anodizing but I've read that it would be in the 60-65 Rockwell range.
I've put over 1700 PSI on a bamboo plank pressed between the plates, they were fine. The bamboo had some indentations. So long as you're not pressing anything harder than anodized aluminum the plates will be fine, so I recommend to avoid pressing anything metal between your plates.
With this exception, if you're using stainless mesh filters instead of nylon, in those instances you will likely be using hash/sift pressures which is about half the pressure needed for flower, so you won't be damaging your plates using those, just be sure to double up on the parchment when using stainless mesh and keep the pressure in the low range for hash/sift.
BTW, regarding temperatures, there may be an offset that you have to apply to the controller. There may be a little deviation, and of course the measurement device has deviation as well. A good quality k-type thermocouple taped making contact with the heated platen should give an accurate measurement.
