I've done bag and bag less, imo bag less needs to be kept to under 1.5g for optimum results. Larger pucks spread out too far and without a bag, can flatten out to the size covering most of the plates... I think my efficient spot is either 1g bag less, or 5g pressed, pucked and bagged.

What humidity did ur starting material have, if it was more on the dry side maybe try storing it (at least 24h) with 62% bovedas, COULD make a difference but as alrdy been said before different strains, different outcomes...u did alrdy on the lower/faster side with ur first tries so I don't think u will get a more buttery/softer rosin when lowering temp/time even more :/

Maybe do a small test nug at 160°/5mins without bag, if the outcome is unsatisfiing u can still fold it, raise the temp and squish again :D

Thanks, gunmetalshark. I store all of my bud with 62% boveda packs so I don't believe humidity to be a factor. Like you stated, maybe that's just an artifact of the way my strain presses. Next go round, I'll try pressing at a lower temp for a longer duration and see what I end up with.

I find the starting material pretty much has the dominant color influence followed by pressure. I am going to try pressing out some of this rough trim I have with a lot of leaf and see what color I get at 1000 PSI. You can definitely see the rosin darken as you start to apply more pressure. Overall it's always a mystery to me until I begin working with it and trying out different temperatures.

Several strains I've pressed at the same pressure and temps as others and they just come out bronze no matter what. This pennywise I am pressing right now is so greasy it's hard to collect even with a cold mat. I have to let it air dry a bit to get it collectable.

I always recommend filters, if you're strapped for cash, I understand, but they are very convenient and are great to wash for edibles and still will keep the plant matter of those pucks out of your wash!

I have some older buds maybe close to 9 months old that press out to almost a shatter. Also it's quite dark, more of a brown color, blackberry kush.

This is what I use to collect and dab with, gets used probably 90% of the time!

I've not bought the specialized parchment papers myself. I'm using a foodservice kirkland roll right now and it's holding up as good if not better than the reynolds. I actually bought a couple more my last trip to costco.

I put anything I'll dab that day or the following day in a silicone container. Anything over about a gram and a halfs worth I put into glass as it'll take me most of the week to finish and I feel like the sealed glass jars seem to do better for long term storage. I've kept it on parchment and for some consistencies that makes it easier to get your dabs off compared to the silicone jar, glass is about as good as it gets IMO, very easy to scrape clean, dabs stick so it's easy dippin'

I decided to start the new year off with some more experimenting, trying lower temps, lower pressure, and lower grade material. Leave it to me to hold up the bottom on quality to bring in the new year ;) Anyway, I get asked this question a lot, can you press shake? What micron size do you need to press shake?

Sure, you can, and the yields aren't so bad, the color and taste as had been mentioned is darker and not as terpy. The rosin that was collected was shatter in some spots, and a real good pull and snap in others.

Here's 7g of strawnana magic shake and trim pre-pressed in pm30r using the 160u rosin filter sleeve, bottle tech style. Pressed at 190F with 1000 PSI for 3 mins. I think I could have pressed this puck a minute longer? The filter still had a yellow tint. 9% yield

I should be getting the strongway pump (no gauge), strongway hose, and trick-tools gauge+adapter tomorrow. I'll report back here how everything fits and if more fittings are needed. Perhaps you awesome people can help me find the parts?

That's pretty much my list also...except I also use an external food thermometer to check plate temps.
