Just received my Crafty 2 days ago and initial impressions are the device is damn solid like others have mentioned. Ordered direct from the manufacturer with next day shipping mid day and had the device the following day before lunch.
Things I like -
Customer Service is great. My Crafty came with two filling aids (no herb mill). I emailed S&B the following morning and got a reply mid afternoon, they sent out the missing herb mill same day.
The app, it's awesome. As was mentioned, it's a great way to monitor the temps, not that it's hard with the LED, however you can see how your draw affects the temps in real time. I set my stock temp to 185C, I found the effects to be a bit more psychoactive versus the original 180C with the sativa I have. I have a nice hybrid (white fire) that I plan to try out in the coming weeks. Right now I am experimenting with just sativa. I left the boost temp the same. All the other customizations you can make from the app, as well as the help section, it's great. I have some white fire waiting it's turn, and am currently looking to get a pure indica strain to see how it medicates in the Crafty.
A full bowl, not tightly packed--loose but solid, vaporizes incredibly. The vapor production for us wasn't noticeably huge, but the end results were outstanding. This dose was almost too much for two people. I would say we got maybe 12-14 draws at 185C, then when the vapor production begins to diminish, boost for the last 4-6 draws. The finished material is a nice shade of brown.
For solo use, I add about 1/3 a bowl with the oil pad on top. This is a great amount for me to re-medicate. It seems the oil pad doesn't fit flush on top of the material, so I assume the material is tight over the screen once I place the cooling chamber on. The extraction seems to be just as good as a full bowl.
As for grinding, I use a space case titanium 2 piece, about 8-9 turns with some dry material and it's a great consistency for the Crafty. I find the loading aid to be a poor storage case if you are looking for discretion. The material is easily smelled from the outside. I like to use a small 1/2 oz glass jar with my ground material, it seems to help with the smell.
For on-the-go usage, I need to have as little in my pockets as possible. Between my e-cig, wallet, keys, Crafty, etc, I can't have everything on hand. The little pick tool that covers the charging port is a great scoop/packer. I can medicate whenever I need with just the Crafty, oil pad and material jar. The filling aid while great for perfectly packing from a safe location, I find it's more time consuming to deal with and takes up too much space in my pockets.
Smell in the air seems to be noticeable while a session is taking place, but after a few minutes and a spray of air freshener, nobody is any the wiser even 15 minutes later. The device has a little odor, but not offensive or obvious.
The pocket warming you get after use is an added bonus, especially during this time of the year.
Flavor is great, I am not picking up on the plastic taste, at least not while I am tasting vapor. The vapor is a little harsh for me, so I am working on my technique.
As for cleaning, I've only used the device 4 times, but the included brush makes quick work of the already nearly clean bowl after the spent material is dumped. Seeing the buildup of oil left in the cooling chamber that has been posted, I am considering replacing the screen in the cooling unit with the oil pad to see if reclaiming/cleaning is easier and less mess to clean up after a lot of use.
What I don't like -
The device does get hot, especially when boosting.
The battery life is not great. A power pack is definitely needed if you are going to be out and about. I bought a RAVPower 15000mah power pack. I estimate that I can get about 4-5 full bowl sessions on a full charge.
The price is high. C'est la vie.
The pro's far outweigh the cons. I'd like to give a thumbs up to the vape critic (not sure if you are on here?) but your reviews are what really sold me on the device. Thanks for taking the time with your honest review.
If you're thinking about getting one and you can afford it, this device is a no brainer.
