Finally got around to doing a little glass work tweaking on the second D020-W. Still a bit harrowing to do at the kitchen table, but not nearly as bad the second time (just like pretty much anything else!)
The second one was a much smaller hole and was able to open it up more than I did the first one. More work, with no real tools other than a butane torch and an awl, left it looking a bit rougher. But, am even more satisfied with the results. Knocking wood as I type this, but no issues with breaking or cracking yet. I didn't do anything special to cool either one, but did leave the a/c off, so room temp was about 85 F in both cases, and let air cool completely before rinsing.
This second one had a very small hole. Took about 15 seconds to drain water out completely while cleaning. Know this isn't really a long time, but seems like it while trying to clean glass - and much longer than anything else I have. After opening it up it drains in less than 5 seconds every time! And, the airflow while hitting both is much improved.
Excuse the crappy phone pics. Camera is on the fritz and GAS/VAS budgeting is taking priority over a new camera these days.
Didn't get a before shot of the first one. Here it is after being opened up next to the second one in its original condition:
Second one after opening up. Like I said, not the best glasswork, but loving the function!!
Hard to tell with circles (for me), but would guess the hole is now 5 - 6x larger or more. Would still rather one with a regular open mp - but this is MUCH better than it was.
Officially, I recommend no one else be dumb enough to try this. But, if you're a dumbass like me be sure to be safe (long sleeves, safety glasses, etc, etc) and don't cry if you break or crack something!
