I cold start dab by dropping a pre-loaded insert into a coiled, "at temp" deep-dish banger... and absolutely adore it! You pull as the 'trate/'cert come up to temp, which is pretty quick, especially using SiC inserts... That way you ( I ) get every single bit of low tempy goodness in a slower, I feel, more measured way... turns it more into multi-hit tasting/sipping session as opposed to one massive lung-buster. I mean, I like lung-busters, too, of course! Just not all the time... mixer vs shots...? This method is pretty bozo-proof, too, TRUST ME
