VROD with SiC Dish ---> Iso bottle with ShovelHead bowl

My buddy just moved out so I don't have glass atm (arriving slow boat from China tomorrow or next few days), so took a quartz 18mm female to 18mm female and duct taped that bitch onto an iso bottle. Plastic heats up pretty good on the bottom when doing dabs (I crank it for live resin) but it's sort of that milk jug plastic, you know? It seems like it'd just melt at the temps that it sees, no plastic taste I can really detect. (Hope this is chill posting, haha, kind of messed up... $400 in vape gear, no glass, effin' silly, I agree). The mouthpiece is too small, with a fat dab of live resin I sometimes get like reclaim on my mustache, haha, it's pretty grody. I've never experienced that, lol.

I'm getting flower within the next few days (I hope), some Purple Punch, not as good as the last Purple Punch we had (different pheno, different grower) but still pretty flame, I guess. I might post a vid once I get the flower and glass in. My buddy took the grinder though, too, so I'm breakin' bud by finger when I have it, I feel like a caveman again. I ordered a Brilliant Cut grinder a few days ago so that will be worth waiting for. Weird transitional phase rn. Saving my avb currently, haven't ever really messed with it (or edibles for that matter) so don't really know what to expect.

So that's a bit of me, but anyways, I'm digging this VROD for sure. 700 with carb cap for flower, about 900 for shatter, 935 for live resin. I can't believe I didn't get the insulated handle for the carb cap when I ordered my kit, I thought that thing was for the bowl. And yee gods it's expensive. I might get a slender wooden dowel from Home Depot and chop it down/start drilling a hole progressively larger until I can press it on with friction, the dabber tool sort of increases in width as it gets closer to the carb cap, Idk, maybe it'll work. Has anyone done anything diy for an insulated carb cap handle? Is that proprietary threading? Am I a monkey for not thinking of something super obvious?

Something doesn't seem right though. 900 degrees would just scorch anything. Are you using a carb cap? Do you have an IR temp gun to get the temp in the dish? What dish do you use, SiC?

Maybe you're coil isn't making the correct contact with the Vrod head? Are you using a coil from NewVape?

Yes, I use carb cap as soon as material is unloaded onto dish. I have a NV SiC dish, NV coil, and NV PID. No IR temp gun to measure. Not sure on proper contact, I've taken the VROD head apart a couple times, but haven't messed with the dish since initial install. I'll take a look. Other people have hit dabs at 935 and said the live resin tasted clean. Irdk...

-edit- All seems fine to me on inspection. 700 with carb cap on VROD for flower is average, no?

at 900 degrees you are wasting all the benefits of a setup like this; you are over heating the material and not properly extracting which will degrade flavor and effect.

Sounds like something’s very wrong. Have you done an autotune? Shouldn’t have that drastic effect on it either way though.

Have you ever run it through real glass, or just that plastic mess?

I have never run an auto-tune fully. How long do they take? Does it have to start at room temp? I actually contacted NV about my seemingly high temps and they forwarded me a couple very technical pdf's that were all about PID settings and whatnot, but not much information on what any of it all does.

Glass should be arriving today. Sorry you guys had to see the makeshift rig. Desperate times, I guess. I was actually going to cut a hole in a Jarritos bottle (pictured behind the rig if you notice) and JB-Weld the 18mm female adapter into that, but then I checked tracking info and my glass piece was arriving in a couple days so I said eff it.

Yes, from room temp, set unit to 400°F. Only takes a few minutes.

Irdk. Coil seems like it fits. Dish is flush with top of showerhead. Everything's brand new. Makes no sense.

I’m considered a high-roller cruising at my normal 747 F for flower only, and I agree your temps seem very high. If you grab the handle of your VRod and shake it does the head seem loose? Is the coil rattling around within the VRod?

@newvape918 and @NewVape710 stay safe guys and for heavens sake make sure your PID battery packs are charged! I would not want to be riding out a storm with out my FlowerPot!

Not much rattle that I recall, outside the house, although when it's cold I can pretty easily spin the Vrod a couple millimeters back and forth (where the coil handle has a little play within the slot on the Vrod head top). I figured a little play was normal, though.

700 with Flower and no cap is not too high, I was there with the Vrod and settled now at 680. But 680 and 700 should get most of your dab. At 680, I get maybe a little reclaim. But I too thought my connection wasn't totally secured, so I tried checking with an IR gun. At 680, I'm somewhere between 525 and 550 on the SiC dish. And that corresponds with some others that I read here I believe. Someone used a terpometer a couple pages back, and my numbers align with that.
