Brilliant Cut Grinder

Anyone soaked one of these in alcohol?

I've had my BCG for almost two years, and it's been my main daily driver grinder that whole time, but I've never felt the need to clean it till now..

Well, It's finally getting a bit of residue buildup on the center grinding plate and the top piece. Now I would like to soak the whole grinder in my Everclear jar that I clean all my vape tubes and other parts that collect honey in, to increase the potency of the tincture I will eventually make from it. But I'm worried about effecting the anodization or the glue that holds the magnet in with an alcohol soak.

Do I have any reason to be worried?
you don't need to soak, the ethanol/iso will take all the organic material just even if you grind with some of it. just grind it with ethanol or iso

I've never actually ordered anything from Canada before, do I have to pay a customs fee or some kind of import tax?

It is going to depend on what country it is being shipped into, etc., but maybe not. Sometimes even if legally speaking you are supposed to pay import duties and fees on shipments you won't actually be charged for them before you receive the item so just be aware of that.

No worries. Their website says that if you are using isopropyl alcohol to clean it (ethanol shouldn't matter) that it should be fine as long as you, "avoid long soaks". You could ask them to clarify that statement, but I'm guessing that as long as it was being soaked for less than 15 minutes the adhesives should be okay. You could always just use a toothbrush soaked in alcohol to target the areas that need cleaning in order to avoid getting it around the magnets as much as possible.

So 2 3/4" or 69mm in diameter...I got all excited there for a moment...

What size would you want? Honestly I got excited too but then I realized I never use my standard size full capacity...if I ground enough to fill the tray it would probably last me a week? Give or take? Never actually tried it lol.

Just FYI for folks on this thread, the Grinders for Life people have “announced” (sort of) on Reddit that they will be releasing a new vape, apparently sometime in 2021. See this post on the /r/vaporents subreddit, and the couple of replies below it.

(And for the mods: I hope this is not a cross-post, as I think people in this thread will have different reasons for interest in a GFL vape than those in the “New vapes on horizon” thread. But let me know if I am wrong ... .)

This is interesting, I wonder if it's something like a dynavap

I always got extra money to spend if it’s a great vape

Over on another forum, there's some folks discussing that the SCS might be a more reliable fluffy grind, and less top heavy than the BCG (also less prone to spillage). Anyone care to comment on this, from someone who has neither but has been considering both? Cheers

I haven't used the SCS but I haven't had any spillage problems with my BCG. Not exactly sure what one has to do to have regular spillage problems. Maybe someone is using theirs as a hockey puck

I don't know why anyone would call the BCG top heavy? Neither grinder is top heavy... Also neither seems prone to spillage?? I have both, and I don't really know how you evaluate a fluffy grind, but I am really not a fan of the SCS with updated teeth, because the consistency of the grind was poor, for me at least, uneven inconsistent, unlike my BCG.

Cool, thanks for the answer. I've never handled either, and while the SCS is cheaper, I'm OK with the price of the BCG. I dont know the forum rules about posting to other discussions on the web, just relaying what I've been reading. I want to buy 'the best' (within reason) and these two are among my list. The wait time on the BCG sucks but I can handle it, but would just as soon by the SCS if its a better buy.

No rule against mentioning discussions from elsewhere, but there is a rule about direct comparisons in a specific product thread. So if you want more detailed comparison on SCS versus BCG, I would recommend posting in ask FC where you will get more opinions... There is also the broad Herb Grinders thread that likely already has such comparisons? Try using the search function

I see - apologies about the direct comparison.

The thread I was referring to (and again please let me know if this is inappropriate) where other grinders are compared starts here - https://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/jbl18p/_/g8w8gqi
oh yea i saw that post, FearandLawyering is a pretty cool dude, he is in the ohio medical subreddit as well. I dont know what he is talking about in that post tho. Seems like he came into owning BCG with an axe to grind

Yeah no problem posting that here, but I (also think I can speak for many of us here) wholeheartedly disagree with them, point by point:

- I have 2, both feel SUPER high quality, more so than the SCS to me, not sure what he is talking about LOL

- it is level, also not sure what he is talking about here (the beveled gem shape?) And yes technically top grinding parts are heavier than bottom dish (duh the dish is hollow without heavy teeth...) but it is NOT top heavy, it still sits flat and balanced, not toppling over or anything

- no kief screen is a HUGE selling point for me and most others... And I am comparing directly to my 3piece SCS which I bought bc of no kief screen (took that section out of my older SCS 4piece I relied on before and out of my SLX I was using pre BCG as well)

- magnet is not even a little bit difficult to remove, "lot of force" ?? It attaches securely if that is what he means, but implying it is as difficult to remove as turning several threads is absolutely ridiculous

- never once had herbs flying out when opening... I can imagine this guy flinging his open, separating the pieces away from himself, with loose group after grinding a lot at once, then spraying weed everywhere and it makes me laugh... Super easy to hold top and bottom together and carefully split the BCG open without spilling a single crumb...

- magnetic post yes this is a legit criticism but I don't find it to be much of an issue, I got used to it pretty quickly and even like how it separates the ground herb a bit, though it is just a necessary trade off for this magnetic design.

- I do not have an herb ripper, but as I said I found the grind to be superior to SLX, SCS (old and new), and the kannastor GR8R (hated this one and sold it soon after getting it) and well worth the $75 I paid for each of my BCG (first with fine plate second with medium plate) during the 420 sales...

Lastly, and this is most important, the biggest selling point of the BCG for me (along with superficial beauty and great customer service) is the side teeth design in the top of the grinder, which prevent it from literally EVER locking up on you as you grind... I often like to grind upside down for greater consistency with a fine or medium fine grind, this can dirty up a grinder quick and with SCS/SLX they lock up instantly even after a fresh cleaning... BCG has NEVER locked up on me without any cleaning in over a year now. I do load my grinder pretty carefully with smaller nugs between the teeth, but even if you load larger nugs more haphazardly the grinder will not lock up on you thanks to this design!

Hope this helps qualify that negative review for you!

Just adding to @Shit Snacks comprehensive and accurate list that there's a way to easily open a BCG compartment by using the „clamp shell“ technique (or just thinking of a clamp shell), maybe FearandLawyering missed that. By doing so any risk of spillage is minimized.

What is a clamp shell??

I remember folks talking about the one-handed crack an egg technique for the BCG, which sounds nice in theory, but makes me laugh because I am woefully unable to crack an egg clean with one hand like that!
