Gear Best Clearo for Pure Gold?

@arrr it is a kFL clone from Tobeco. I've had a fair amount of leaking issues...but not sure if that is due to driving ~+-5000 feet daily or user error.

@thisperson that is after a tank and a half of vaping. The original juice was light golden brown in color.

@215z I changed the wick out back to a setup that doesn't loop the wick back over the coil. It's working ok at the moment, but still getting nasty tasting hits and coughing fits if I don't regularly take priming hits.

Same results as @Haywood here I think. Never have to burp a Mini Protank. I burp the BUD every few hits to avoid dry burns. It tastes so great after pulling the blue plug and putting it back on.

I'm not sure why people bother with the sub ohm coils. I get best results when i run both 2.2 and 1.8 ohm coils at 3.3 volts. The stuff then simmers and evaporates without burning.

The design of the Kayfun will cause dry hits with an e liquid as thick as most liquidized concentrates. The liquid is too thick and viscous to climb up the juice channels from only the pressure of your normal draw. Thinner nicotine eliquid wicks just fine, but these thicker concentrates need some encouraging. Before beginning a session with the Kayfun, cover the air intake hole with your thumb and give one or two very brief (<1 second) but hard pulls from the drip tip. This will cause the liquid to be drawn up the channels to your wick. After that you should get a fully saturated hit. Don't overdo it or you could flood the coil. After 5 hits or so you may need to cover the air hole and give another priming suck to coax some more liquid up to the wick.

But it's interesting on the spread of the dilution. My super melt (that clocks around 70% THC) becomes like Pure Gold by adding at most 25% EJ mix.

I tried propylene glycol alone with inconsistent degrees of separation, while just a few drops of EJ MIX added to the propylene glycol blends it in.

Mow ganja @lesvape !

aerotank capacity width
mini 1.5ml 14mm
mow 2.0ml 16.5mm
mega 3.8ml 22mm

The mow has an outer steel shell to protect the tank, with viewing windows.Vendors have yet to receive their preorders from Kanger. The mini and mega do not have shields - I've broken both pyrex tanks already. Glad they came bundled with all-steel tanks as an alternative!

@walrus would you need primer hits if you restricted the airflow some? I can't tell you if my setup can keep up with chain vaping, I can't get past three hits without falling over.

Warning on the mini aerotank. The Pyrex tube is held in by the top and bottom parts of the air tube screwing together, like on the mPT2 and the mPT3.

BUT the aero mini i got has a little threaded sleeve that the threaded top air tube screws into. With drops and impact it works its way up in its mount, and then you may not notice how the Pyrex tube is loose and THEN stuff really leaks all over.

The little threaded sleeve can be pushed back in. Or pounded in. And then later it comes loose again.

You know, I prefer my mPT3's to my mAT due to the extremely loose and less than useful airflow ring on my mAT, and I currently run a "hybrid", with all the parts from the mAT except the base, which is from one of my mPT3's. Next time my "hybrid", is empty, I think I'm gonna just turn put everything back the way they came, and just use the mPT3's (and retire the mAT). I thought that using the all SS mAT would make more sense, all other things being equal, but after your report I'm going to change back to just using the mPT3.

Here is my temporary solution to MPT3 leaks... it's a slightly shortened blue cap from a BUD carto - pointy end fits perfectly in the air-hole..
MPT3.jpg

I find that this is the more reliable way for me to transport my concentrates rather than having the tank upside down because it can often flip over in my pocket, bag or glove box. As a side benefit this adds an extra level of protection from accidentally turning on my Ego and scorching my oil (happened more than once)

@baltik, does the butt-plug also cover the little side-holes in the BUD' s 510 connector? That's where I had seeping the only time it seeped - upright.

There are similar silicone plugs with a longer shaft that could be trimmed to the exact length, going deeper (if you pardon the expression) yet not hitting the coil. They ship on 510 cartomizers of the dinosaur vintage Joyetech era.

I have never yet had a leak or even seepage if the BUDs are tumbling loose in pockets. Even with thinner e-juice. I'm impressed, having just taken them in a road trip. They only seem to leak when sitting upright in the heat. I don't mind venting the fill plug every couple of drags -- I want it to WORK on every hit! On some eGo batteries the positive term doesn't make contact and needs to be pulled out a bit. Carefully.

The Pure Gold I had in a mPT2 has also been solid. A 1/2 gram in there seems to last forever with a 2.2 ohm coil fed just 3.3 volts, i.e. 5 watts. This is SO stealth! Don't flaunt it, don't give it away!

My next Pure Gold test will be in a BUD cart. But I've really liked the mPT2 for PG or any concentrate because the plate is shallower so wicking is direct, the single coil is sufficient and it's easier on the battery than a dual coil.

@Haywood I too like the 1.5 ohm non-whiskered head in the mPT3 a lot, say on a fixed voltage eGo, for nic e-juice. Better than a mPT2 for that.

One more thing about Protanks. The dual coil mPT3 really goes through juice, much faster than a mPT2, without really delivering much more. I can vape over a milliliter of VG e-juice in a mPT3 in under an hour! Another reason i prefer the mPT2. The Pure Gold is a bit harsh, we'll see in a BUD.

The BUD type clearo is very efficient. Great clouds at low wattage.

Oops one more observation. The BUDs are very usable IF you play by their rules, like frequent venting. That makes them useless for chain nic e-juice vaping - as Busardo says, bad burned taste.

I have had no luck finding the mpt3 new ceramic wick coils. Where do you buy them?

When I google I get tutorials, not products.

I haven't been able to find the Kanger ceramic based attys yet either. Only place I saw them was on the mfg's site in Chinese. Hopefully in another few weeks they'll start to show up for sale. (And if anyone sees them for sale, please chime in!)

On a related note, I've gone back to using the "old" Type 1 attys (with the dual protruding wicks) as both the 1.5Ω and 2.0Ω Type 2 attys (with the wicks not protruding) seem MUCH more prone to leaking out the bottom air hole in warm situations...

@Haywood, so far best luck with single coil mPT2 with protruding wicks. Maybe i just got good one but it's been flawless, no venting needed, plug the holes with fingers to suck some more PureGold to the coil.

The aero tank3 threaded base tube is totally falling out of the base. It's loose - a crack has appeared. The threaded tube slides up, so it can't hold the two halves together well.

The regular mPT3 has lost 1 coil out of the 2 a bit TOO often, IMHO. Granted I drop the Provari on the office carpeting a lot.

One BUD out of 4 getting finicky and seeps a bit out the tiny side holes in the 510 connector.

I'm pretty frustrated with my experiences with these different clearo's so far.

They all work great...until the temperature gets above 90° F. Then they all start to leak out of the battery connection.

I've EASILY lost $100+ in leaks so far.

I've tried making my solutions only 15% EJMix, in an effort to keep it super viscous. At room temp, it can take several minutes to drip from the top of the tank to the bottom. I still get leaks :(

Recently I went back to a the Sapphires, since they seem to be the most leak resistant. Had one of those leak on me at Bonnaroo a few weeks ago. Granted, it was only .1 mL leak, compared with my AeroTank Mini that shot nearly its whole .6 mL load.

The Sapphire is definitely the most leak resistant one I've tried (Sapphire, Aspire BCC Epen, Kanger EVOD, AeroTank Mini, and maybe a few more). However, it feels like sucking cement through a straw sometimes, the draw is EXTREMELY restrictive. I've also noticed that the taste is much more pleasurable in the AeroTank over the Sapphire. The Sapphire seems to leave a slight taste to it.

Going to try storing them upside down, but that's not always an option for me. The theory of the silicone plug in the battery connection is a very interesting one, and one that I will have to experiment with soon.

South Texas summer heat is not making this an easy process.

The only reason I haven't given up in anger is that the stealth and portability for my travel/work is absolutely unparalleled. I couldn't even imagine traveling with anything else at this point.

Had to vent for a bit. If anyone comes any closer to a leak-free alternative, PLEASE post about it.

Has anyone had any success with some of the top-wicking tanks? I haven't even tried them because I assumed the thickness of our juice would be too much. But you know what happens when you assume...

I'm starting to give up on the Kanger Aerotank Mini. I bought two, from two different vendors, and both leak or flood or go dry way too often. I really like its form factor over 22mm tanks, because it looks so slick paired with my iTaste VV. I almost always have both Aerotanks in the car, as well as the Kayfun, and take turns hitting them. I try to use the Aerotank when in public because, well, everyone else uses a clearo of that size, and I often want to fit in.

I'm really mad I spent $30 on each of these tanks, and feel worse that I have been suggesting it to others. Medical users who are differently-abled, who NEED a device that works when they push the button :| I don't think it is kind to tell people with mobility and dexterity issues that they HAVE to wind their own coils, in order to get a decent experience. But it seems to me, that it is the only way to go.

I think the Aerotank may be great to fill up and carry on a trip, or a concert, or a party; but it is too messy and hit-and-miss for a all-day vaping device. Medical users don't have the luxury of putting off medicating to a later time, they need it to work. Just work.

I'm going to have to help them build coils at this rate. It isn't really a big deal, I just didn't want sick people being dependant on me for help. And they can't really wheel themselves into a e-cig B&M asking for help, as these stores are terribly anti-cannabis. I literally spent $5 more on the Kayfun than the Aerotanks, and they have worked flawlessly in comparison.

Again my complaints center around: leaks when carrying, flooding (gurgling), dry hits, leaks/messy when filling/loading. I'm also a little skeptical of holding these tanks together using o-rings and pressure. Screwing machined stainless steel together is alot more confidence-inspiring.

If any of you are putting off buying better tanks because of the coil building aspect, please watch some videos and consider giving it a try. I am mechanically inclined, but I have poor dexterity, and I am able to get it done. I am happy to meet up with FCers here in the Bay and help them get set up. If you are a medical user, I have a spool of 24ga titanium (certified Grade 1) wire, and recreational users will be very happy with 28ga Kanthal A-1.

I dunno, so far I'm still happy with the mini aerotank, the original and I'm trying out the newer version with the larger air holes. I had a little leaking with the non aerotank base (protank 3 mini), but i think that was also when i was using bootleg coils. I haven't had any leaking so far with the original coils. But, you may have put more time in on it, i use it mainly when i need to be incognito, i can't afford the oil to use it all the time, and i still like my regular vapes too. I definitely haven't been using it as an all day vape.

I'm beginning to think drippers might be the way to go. Still haven't had much luck getting my KFL to wick well without leaking all over the place.

Has anyone tried Pure Cure? Is this just a winterized QWET/QWISO product without any PG or VG? This stuff vapes ok in BUD/protanks, just doesn't produce much of a hit unless you suck like a hoover.

Good point about medical patients, dexterity and equipment reliability. I come from the nicotine e-cig side, 4+ years' worth, so I don't expect any gear to be easy or 100% trouble-free. It just hasn't happened yet, in spite of millions of e-cig users world-wide. Compromises. It's the reason many vapers go back to their marlboros: simplicity.

And our case is tougher. A smidge of water-soluble e-liquid on your fingers can just be licked or wiped on your pants. Not so well with stuff that's like STP oil treatment and costs a lot more ;-).

Does anyone chain-vape MJ liquids? I now carry my loaded mPTs and BUDs in a little metal Altoids Gum tin. Screw one onto an eGo type battery as needed, take a few hits, put it back in the tin, tin in pocket, content facing tips-down. Maybe you guys are expecting too much?

BTW, what's the report on the Omicron units like these?

For those times I need discretion, no choice, I put up with the e-hassles. Otherwise, a vaporizer like a Solo works just better than all the e-cig based gear in the world. A stealth adapter that puts the Solo in a drink cup stealths effectively from a few yards away.

I don't use pure gold in my kanger just juice, but I do build my own coils instead of using the stock ones. This is 28 gauge kanthal, 10 wraps with a 2mm diameter, 1.6 ohms. I use cotton as my wick and make a complete circle around the head, which stopped all my leaking problems.

@kingtut106 can you explain what you mean by "make a complete circle around the head"

Do you mean you put cotton around the outside of the cup?
Yea exactly what I meant.

I was hoping my pictures in my original post would clarify my explanation, but I guess I should have included captions for the pictures, sorry. The first picture is just the coil (unwicked) and the last picture is the coil wicked with cotton surrounding the head.
