I'm thinking about picking up some gold metallic vinyl and wrapping my ascent with it. The names Vinci...... DaVinci!!!!

I don't think 'ruin' is the right word. It didn't help it any, but reduction in service life and capacity (hopefully both minor) are the downside here as I understand it.

The battery will die eventually no matter, but most guys want to get the most out of it in the process. I suspect you'll get plenty of enjoyment from it no matter.

This leads to the question whether or not the battery circuit is entirely independent from the rest of the Ascent - in other words: if or when the battery dies, will we still be able to use the Ascent plugged in?

Ours arrived today. Here's a few initial impressions while it charges.

My brother wanted the burl, but got the black since it was the only one available. I love it, and will probably buy the burl so we can swap. The purpley-black piping is a beautiful, understated touch.

The latch isn't as annoying as I had feared, but I can imagine a future version where they incorporate it between the main portion and the heater section so it doesn't stick out the side (perhaps something like the plug connector on a macbook charger, if you know what I mean--that little part where you can swap plugs for different countries).

Feels quite nice in a hand--the inner stripe has an almost rubbery feel to it, not unlike the back of a Nexus 7.

This unit also has something weird happening with the display, like something resembling condensation on the inside. Our display is also slightly crooked. There are other minor imperfections: a little piece chipped off of the piping, and a couple of places where the casing isn't properly glued flush. None of these are dealbreakers and won't at all affect the performance, but it's not what I'd expect from a $250 device.

We've cleaned everything with ISO while it charges. Future cleaning looks easy-peasey.

Battery had just enough juice on arrival to power on the display to show it was working, then immediately powered off.

And holy crap, that 14mm adapter is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long! Will look into getting it snipped, I guess. The glass does indeed seem sturdy, but the length of the adapter is almost comical. Not sure what the reasoning was for that. We paired it with the Pinnacle WT, and it's annoyingly unwieldy, like using the WT with a stock Solo stem.

Can't wait until this thing charges so we can get to the good part...

Yup.

(BTW: "Black Chrome")

I have a few ideas for this myself. :)

It is quite nice. Of course the burl won't have this as it is printed.

If customs stored the shipment in a damp warehouse then perhaps that is the reason for the condensation? Not good, but not a deal breaker for me either.

Yes, but purpley-black is so much more fun to say. :p

Are you thinking DIY?

Perhaps--maybe it'll go away with heating.

Another thought--would be nice if there was some sort of USB port for firmware upgrades.

And I can definitely see an aftermarket for different kinds of jars or cans--like something that lets you carry along a couple different strains you can neatly and easily swap out...little cannabis nespresso pods...

I strongly doubt it. What does the nameplate on the charger say? Sooner or later we'll know, either some brave soul will test it, or some unfortunate one find out the hard way?

Yes, it is. Interesting. That's enough power (probably) to do it, but it'd have to be made like a laptop not a cell phone I'd think. "Pass thru" vapes typically are of the 'replace the charge between hits' form.....which is how they get 10 plus Watts of heat out of a 2.5 Watt USB port. Here the apparent 27 Watts available might be enough?

Be fun to find out.

Thanks.

Just received mine. I admit it feels "thrown together". There is a bit of white stuff on the bottom of mine, it's glue that is showing. The mouthpiece that came in my unit slides down into the unit very easily. By a light touch it will slide down. The other mouth pieces are not as bad but definitely a downside. My LCD also has that look to it. But mine is not condensation. The plastic screen cover is scratched on the inside. You cannot tell when the unit is on though. Is anyone else having issues with their mouthpiece sliding into the unit way too easily? This will be a very annoying issue for me

Edit: I've also noticed the bottom of my bowl is not smooth. When I catch the light right it looks bumpy. Should I be worried? Or am I being a perfectionist? "I've been known to be one at times"

Have same issue with mouthpiece, but not so bothered its more the fact my buttons are wrong.

The question is....can I use the damn thing? I spent $250 on it, I would like it to be damn near perfect. I don't want to use it and davinci say "well we would send you a better one if you didn't use the one you have already"

Edit: I just took a look at my shirt, it's an XL....I ordered a medium....I weight in at 130 pounds

Man, I would have thought QC to be a little better after all this time, from an experienced company no less.

I'm hoping mine is randomly perfect, unlike the usps tracking that hasn't had any updates since leaving vegas two days ago. It's scheduled to be delivered today, but I wouldn't waste a drive to go check since I'm guessing tomorrow at the earliest. Having said that, I have something important to mail to the state registry and I want a certificate of mailing. So fingers crossed maybe it's here but I doubt it!

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone here for being so helpful and keeping us up to date during this long wait period for the Ascent! I've been lurking here for a while, and I must say that this forum, and especially the humour of the members, are the only things that kept me from cancelling my order over this last confusing month.

Ok here we go...
So I was excited to receive the Ascent today, but already I am finding some issues, like the scratched screen issue that has been mentioned before. However the main problem with my Ascent, is that the bowl is poorly aligned - in that some of the rubber seal spills over the top of the bowl on one side. So for this reason I havn't even used it yet! I figure that that exposed rubber will be vaporized and inhaled.

OK I thought, I sent DaVinci an email with some pictures and I guess I will send it back for a replacement. But that got me to thinking - even with the bowl correctly aligned - is the bowl totally isolated from the rubber seal, i.e. does the internal stem make contact with the bowl, or is the rubber exposed directly above the bowl? And does the rubber itself get hot? If so, that may be the cause of the strange tastes mentioned above, as particles may be released from the rubber itself into the vapor as it is heated. I would appreciate any feedback from somebody with an Ascent, thank you!!

You are not alone with the bowl issue. Mine is not aligned correctly either. But no silicone is actually hanging over the bowl like yours. I believe the strange tastes mentioned above go away after a burn off and use? Am I wrong?

Hey has anybody opened an ascent lately that DOESN'T have any QC problems?

Just wondering if someone can provide a contrast to all the troubling issues that have been brought up recently, or if perhaps they used this first manufacturing run to "work out the kinks", or... ?

The last possibility sucks so bad I won't even mention it

Just got mine today (stealth). Its awesome! I love the feel of it in my hand.

I too have the issue with the screen not looking quite right, like it is scratched on the inside. There is also some glue on the edge right above the part that swivels out. I'm sure I'll be able to get it off, but I'm scared to try and scrape it off.

I have a question . . . can I charge this thing every night and/or leave it on the charger? It will be a rare occasion that I wear the battery down, but is it OK if I charge it when it still has 75% battery? I'd like to just put it on the charger every night but am afraid of overcharging. Anyone know?

My friends call me "Menz"
for the VERY few that have used this with oils and have stated to leave the cap off the oil can... i tried it with some ABV oil i made (kinda runny when heated, thick as molasses when cool) and i left the cap off. i set the temp for max and before it reached the max i heard the oil "bubble over" and "pop" and sure enough it was a mess. i need better insight to using the oil cans. also.... isn't the oil can supposed to have a notch or something the stir tool can grab and pull the can from the ascent bowl?? i can't seem to find one and now have to dump the oil can out by turning the unit upside down

The notch is in the lid--I don't believe the jar itself has one.

Maybe put the lid back on and pull it out that way?

How full did you fill the jar?
