Agreed. I think thats why the cotton layer might not be a bad idea and if you pushed the screens down the tube to cover the holes...you would have to cover all 4 holes to prevent material from coming through and the screens are the same size as the big circle ones for the original dv...not that easy.
The ideal solution would be an oval shaped glass screen with nubs to help block materials from coming through... until then cotton it is (once I find some appropriate for the task)

IMO there is no evidence to support wills theory...I have experienced no 'EXTRA' Air. the airpath extends from the grill to mouthpiece, so the amount of air you get depends on draw speed...and will was drawing so hard and fast that it made the device whistle! The screen-stem fits into a seal that stops any additional air getting in from the bowl...the mouthpeice-stem fits into a seal from the top of the device, the only extra air would be coming from the middle of the device, which is highly unlikely because its solid (no holes) that the reasons the stems dont touch is because inside the device, there are seals to hold them in place (to recap)
I would do the millimeter measurment for you but but I dont have the steady hand or equipment to pull off the maneuver...lol
In addition this is some pics of the hard to clean inner area of the bowl, its around the nub that sticks out for the oil jar...any cleaning suggestions would be welcomed

Maybe it's because of the lighting in your pic .
But your stain looks ' greyish ' , not like brownish resin stains . imo

+ 1 on the dental pick ,
I've lightly etch/scratched the baked on resin stains at the end of my Solo stems , to come out
looking like new again . But only on the stock stems tho , I haven't tried on the PVHES stems yet
b/c of the grooves .

You might want to cover up the 4 holes 1st , to keep out the flying specs from the picking .

Has anyone experimented with drillng small holes in the bottom of the oil cans and using them for flowers? I would think that one would need to raise the temp to compensate for the extra glass but this would work well as a bowl reducer and solve a lot of the cleaning/buildup issues, would just take a quick splash of iso to make it plane ready...

They are not cans, they are more like jars.. And they look tiny, so not sure how you can drill tiny glass holes in a tiny glass jar. Is that even possible?

I'm just not getting all of the debate over keeping the heater and glass screen clean! Screen or cotton on bottom and top of ceramic bowl. END OF PROBLEM:shrug::bang:

Yes, it's actually pretty easy to do. Small holes can be drilled with brass tube and abrasive slurry. Very small ones are done with solid pins. In practice, he abrasive imbeds in the metal and scratches it's way through the glass.

Turn slow, keep the pressure low and lift the tool from time to time to refresh the abrasive.

I've drilled holes though microscope cover slips, only a few thousandths thick, by gluing them to a backing plate and boring through the glass and glue into the backing plate before dissolving the glue away in acetone.

While I am sure this is effective - the main selling feature of this vaporizer is the all glass vapor path, i find that adding metal screens and cotton to be an inelegant solution..

Then I would suggest not doing it. The alternative would seem to be more cleaning......no big deal most likely?

This is true, I guess I am mostly interested in using the oil jars as bowl reducers since I tend to use sparingly, the ability to clean quicker and more thoroughly is more of a beneficial byproduct - that said I don't actually have the device so the bowl reducer may not be a necessity..

Then the question is what is in that bottom part because if nothing you can submerge it in iso:huh: I wouldn't listen to me:bang:

I have found that using a thin veil of 100% cotton has ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT on flavor, which is the glass-on-glass big brag. Never could taste the stainless steel screen either. So elegance in this regard IMO has no relevance. What does become relevant over time with use is the gunk build up of spent goods that corrupts the flavor through a dirty vapor path. I'm as much of a purist as the next aficionado, but try not to blind myself with misconception and vape dogma.:2c:

I'm wondering if using a shredder instead of a grinder would eliminate the need for any of this.

I am sure it will help but just like with the solo there will still be some small bits as it drys more or just because. So the answer is NO. Sticking a full nug in might be a bit better but still conduction needs packed...nug not packed.

Vaping is a way of life!
Iam interested to see if this vapor lock made any improvements to the vapor production but mainly the oil vapor production!!
Time will tell!!!

You might scratch a glass-lined bowl with metal pokers or paperclips... I would go at it with wooden toothpicks and some iso :2c:

What works best for me when I'm concerned about scratching a metal or glass work piece are those bamboo shish-kebab skewers found at the supermarket. Dip the point in Iso and I expect that they'd do a good job.

I don't NEED another portable vape for strictly doing herbs , but I WANT one .
I also don't NEED another portable vape for doing only budda/oils , but I WANT one too .

It's just the Ascent boasts about doing both .

Maybe the lack of Good reviews on the oil function part of the Ascent .
Is the reason for their delay in releasing it .

Because if it Can't do oils well ,
Why would I even think about buying it ?
I already have the Solo .:2c:

If your really concidering using cotton or screen, I just put up a lil diy info in the vaping with cotton thread that may be appicable to your needs. I would be interested to see if a ss wick would help improve the oil jar performance.
