Thanks for the reply OF. It hasnt really been a problem with getting particles out its more of the surprising amount oil build up that Im seeing. I have maybe 5 or 6 bowls through it right now and already getting a little gummed up. At least the glass air path is completely removable so I know that wont be a problem to clean. I really need to get some glass flowers or something to use as a better spacer because I can already see how using the oil can as a spacer will get very annoying when it has oil build up on it.Be careful not to slop it around too much, but most guys don't seem to have too much luck if the fouling goes too far. Tougher attacks are called for then.
However the fouling is not caused by "this thing", but rather what you put in it. I've got well over half an ounce through mine with basically zero fouling. The key is what you put in it seems. As was pointed out by the Magic Flight engineer a while back moisture in the herb is the major issue. Keep it dry and fairly fine ground and stuff should brush out while still warm.
I think the glass flowers (which you should try at any rate) also help by keeping the load more or less intact so it falls out freely while still warm. Once any tiny deposits are spotted, removing them (I use a toothpick) before loading more keeps them from growing out of control I think. Being a conduction vape you really don't want any old plant junk (think insulation) between the heat and the load you want to vape.

Hey guys long time lurker, just wondering what everyone thinks is better a pax or ascent? I have a pax and think it's great but kind of over the mouth piece issue and the ascent really caught my attention.
Thanks
Two totally different types of vapes.
For Stealth - the Pax is better
For Flavor - The Ascent clearly wins
I found an alternative to the Pax for my stealth needs, but the Ascent's flavor at low temps is superb
The Pax's only good thing (in my opinion) is it's stealth factor. The Ascent is a better vape in many other ways - it tastes better, it's easier to clean, more control over temperatures, and requires LESS maintenance to keep it running (The pax requires religious cleaning of the mouthpiece to prevent premature failure of device)
So far from the sounds of things I'll be looking at selling my pax to get the ascent, I've had my pax for 2 years now haven't had any issues with it besides the temp light issue but thats just due to not being able to completely clean it properly, I had my eye on the ascent for awhile. After hearing from some of you guys I'm almost convinced haha but what do you mean by you like to use glass flowers? And how do you use them in the ascent?I don't own the Pax but used it a few times. I didn't like the flavor. It gave the herb that burnt taste after the first min or so. Plus it was a weed hog. Not efficient IMO.
The Ascent works best if using the glass flowers from Amazon. They are actually glass pipe screens. You can use more or less depending on how much herb you are using. I usually use around 5. I like being able to dial in my exact temp that I want to vape. The Ascent is very good in the flavor department. It gives your vapor an exquisite flavor. You can taste the true taste of the herb you are using.
I like the looks of the Ascent. Nobody would know you are using a vaporizer. Whether you vape for recreational or medical the Ascent will give you the flavor that a lot of portables can't give you. Make sure you go with an authorized vendor. You will need to contact DaVinci and see who that would be? I'm not sure if Puffitup is an authorized vendor? There is no charge if you need to send the unit back if you go with Puffitup.
I've had my Ascent for a year. I have been using it 3 or 4 times a week. It's not my daily driver. We all have our own tolerances and likes. Only you know what you need in a vaporizer. Good luck it can be a tough decision. There are a lot of several good units out there. Always good to have more than one vaporizer.
Here is a picture. They have been talked about at length. Research the topic. I use 2 on the bottom 1 in the middle and 2 on top. We use them for heat distribution and to hold the load down. Many of us found that the load would cool off after a draw and the herb would fly around inside the oven. @OF discovered this simple remedy. You can try them out. They aren't that expensive. You can taylor your load that way. You can use a couple or 6 or 7.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Single-Pack...yle-Smoking-Pipe-Assorted-Color-/371170511957 (You probably want to buy more than 10, I bought 50 for $8 a while back on ebay - my LHS is charging $1.50 EACH!)
Sometimes called "Glass Pipe Flowers", "Glass Jacks" or Glass Daisy Flower screens. Basically use a few of these throughout your load (and a few on top to keep the ABV from flying into your mouth through the glass stem!
Search this thread, you'll read a LOT of comments on how to use them and best packing techniques with them
The Magic Eraser got my oven clean. It worked really well. I did do an ISO damp Q-tip after.
thanks for the reple.... i tried and its just too hard to use a piece of the eraser and my fat finger to to anything in there. i need a tiny magic eraser brushI have small hands/fingers. I tore off a piece of the eraser. I had it in the bottom of the bowl and just twisted it around, kinda in a turning motion. It made my dark grimy oven clean again.
how do you use the magic eraser in the bowl?? my fingers are too big to scrub with. so can you enlighten me to your technique please??
Got an email from DaVinci.
Design your own unit it said, awesome. i think a white pearl would be pretty. Not the most stealth I guess.
... just wanted to see how it would have looked

Most folks that have tried these have been very successful.
Yeah must have missed that Page haha, sweet as but does the ascent work sweet without them? Sounds a bit annoying having to keep putting a bunch of those in and stuff so if I was on the go would the ascent still perform well?
i have a perfect design in my head for a spacer but cant get it out of my head in the right way so someone could make it. so let me try here....The glass flowers definitively make it a hassle to reload (especially in a moving car!). But as KeroZen mentioned, you can use the Ascent just fine without them - just tamp everything down into a partially compressed 'brick' - don't make it too tight so no air can flow, but dense enough to let heat transfer throughout the load.
To be honest, the flowers are a bit annoying. I've really been thinking about designing a simple oval spacer and having it milled from Stainless Steel. Maybe different size spacers to accommodate different sized loads.....
Maybe try tweezers?... i dont have any more "roach clips" anymore
