Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I've previously had an MFLB and (shortly) the original DV. I wasn't a fan of the LB but the DV definitely got me where I needed to be.

Solo is too big for what I'm looking for and the glass stem is a huge turn off, and with the Pinnacle Pro almost all my tubes are 18mm so the water tool it comes with isn't suitable, and the milk videos I've seen have not impressed me all too much (although it is getting good reviews).

I'm going to stop by my LHS and check em all out in person tomorrow. I may just grab something that works well for individual dosing on the go then get a desktop vape later for my glass collection.

My one annoyance with all the leading vapes now is bowl size. From what I'm hearing the PAX and Ascent both have massive bowls.

With the Ascent many members are using the glass tobacco screens, they're tiny glass flowers with a stem (found on amazon online) we're using to partially fill the bowl, you don't use that much herb doing it that way.

They probably aren't selling the Ascent yet in stores.

Also check on the Firefly, it's portable and I hear has a good taste. I don't own one. It's only been in the marketplace a couple of months.

I simply wanted to know if it was normal for the plastic pathway that the glass stems fit into leak or not. I thought that pathway was supposed to be airtight, I could be wrong that's why I asked. If its supposed to be airtight then I would need to return mine. Also I realize that there will be air leaks in certain areas but I would wonder why there would be an air leak inside the plastic pathway. I still like the way the Ascent performs, just thinking it could be better without this leak. Does every unit leak like this? That's why I asked. I'm not trying to start anything at all, I'm curious and wanted to try to get some answers.

I see what you're saying. You're just saying you need an O-ring (or similar seal) at the top between the glass mouthpiece and the case, and have that be airtight down to the bowl. That makes sense, though it could still leak at the bowl it seems. Anyway, the general consensus among the users here seems to be that it doesn't matter much.

Please tell me you're trolling AHAHA, I do not understand how to explain that in another way, perhaps I did not do a good job but no, that's not even close to what I'm trying to say LOL, that would be way superfluous and complicated.

Sorry your unit isn't working for you. Please deal with DV regarding your problems.

My unit doesn't seem to be air tight but I'm happy with it. It gets the job done!

I don't remember DV ever stating that the Ascent was air tight. I remember the glass air path even with my medicated brain.

I really don't think anyone's is airthght? IMO the design doesn't support this 'feature'. It seems the maker doesn't either?

Does anyone have one they think it truly air tight? Anyone? It's clearly not required by many/most.

I think this whole "airtight" thing is a little ridiculous.

The air is going to follow the path of least resistance, and therefore when it's being operated you're going to get little to no pullthrough from wherever the supposed "leaks" are.

That's good to hear. I didn't think it would matter a lot but I didn't know if that pathway was supposed to be airtight. I still wonder why it wouldn't be though. Just wanted to make sure my unit was 100%. This issue been brought up a few times.

If a put a finger on the bottom of the pathway and try to draw, it's not only like a frozen milkshake but nearly impossible.. the little that goes through might as well be my finger.

Got irritated by the design of the 2 glass stems and how they fit in together at first too though.. but at least mine seems as airtight as necessary.

Glass flowers arrived yesterday - half of them already lost their blooms. Tried a couple of bowls.. might see an improvement with amounts of not more than 0,1 - but with just 0,2 I find them kinda useless..no bigger clouds or better taste. 0,2 pressed down a little stays in place and delivers amazing results to me after 4 weeks getting used to it.. might upload a cloud vid.

Regarding the glass flower usage: do you always fill up the entire bowl or just that the material is covered from all sides? And if you fill it up you just pour them in and not one by one right?! Those things are really tiny and I can't imagine how those huge American fingers can get them in place.

What I do is put about 6 or 7 glass flowers in. It fills the bowl 3/4, then I add the herb almost to the top. Then I put a thin layer of cotton on top. My session is about 12 min and the ABV is dark brown when I empty the bowl.
I set my temp for 395 and over 12 min. work my way to 405 - 408.

Play around with the flowers and the heat and see what works for you.

My ABV is always dark brown when I'm done, no matter what I do ;)

So you fill the bottom and put the herb on top.. wouldn't it make more sense to got the herb covered from all sides so that there's heat from all sides - thought that + the minimization of cooling airspace is what they are meant for.. Don't want to start an unwanted discussion though, as this probably has been thoroughly discussed somewhere in the 189 pages

DaVinci literally does not care, they refuse to talk about it... I've sent 3 massive emails now and I've given up... but at least in some units the multiple materials that are stacked on top of each other are at least somewhat sealed.... I just think they should have simply made it one piece, and there's no reason they could not do this, and then there would be no such thing as an air leak (because the stem chamber would be one piece of silicone, air could not leak through straight silicone) but either way, I'm out as far as the DaVinci for now... this gambling with good units, bad units and terrible units like mine and units that start out perfect and break not too far down the road is just not worth the efforts and money for me... I'll check back in a year or so and hopefully these things will have changed. Good luck guys, and stay up! :spliff:

Just wondering...I saw one person in here with a carbon fiber who had heating problems, anyone else have issues with carbon fiber model?

There doesn't seem to be a trend attached to the faulty units. The only reason a lot of black stealths were involved, because more of them were available in the beginning. At first all you could get were the black stealth units.

I don't think there's any rhyme or reason for it. The black carbon is only a cover, it just so happened we hear a couple of black carbon faulty units. Bassman said his unit is fine so far. The cover is put on at the very end.

Some of the returns were user error I would imagine, because there is a knack for using the Ascent. Some returns the user couldn't figure out so the unit was sent back.

Obviously the units that won't turn on or have an awful smell, wires showing, computer board showing etc....are faulty.
Bought my first Ascent in August with the first rush of buyers after all the hype.
I sent mine back after the first month or so because I had an air leak by the latch and a cracked bowl.

There is always a pattern just gotta have the information to see it ;). Person at davinci also suggested a carbon since they were the newest manufactured ones

I'm not suggesting yours is user error. It's just the unit is difficult to use. Some probably gave up because they couldn't get medicated and sent there's back. I had mine for 2 months before I could get sufficiently medicated and good vapor output. But with a bit of diligence and help I was able to figure this little bad boy out. I'm very thankful for all the help I received, I was ready to sell my Ascent, I'm so glad I didn't.

I don't know anything about electronics or manufacturing all I know is what I've read through out many many pages on FC.

I have looked on the inside of my carbon fiber unit and I do not see any signs of overlap of the silicone. To me it looks one piece. I can hold my finger over the glass straw and blow and it is very difficult. I can also take the tubes out and cover the hole and blow and it seems air tight also. This is my third Ascent and the first carbon fiber. So far it works great. My last one made it 5 weeks before the heat issue started. I hope this is the last one and if it is I am going to buy another for a spare.

So, I smoked from age 13 until 30.

I gave up cigarettes a year ago, but have still carried on smoking/vaporizing with a volcano.

I really want it all - I want a certain amount of vapor - I think because I was a heavy smoker for years, and to breathe in air, does not seem satisfactory, although I am sure I would get used to it, as I did smoking(!)... BUT, most important for me is the taste....

After giving up smoking cigarettes, I will only smoke or vape something now if it has a decent enough taste because you get selective, and rightly so.

I think a lot of this is personal preference, and was wondering is there anyone out there like me, that uses an Ascent, and feels it is the best Vape for them?

So went out and got an Ascent yesterday to have a portable unit (getting a DBV cheap as fuck from a friend soon too). About .18 got me a nice buzz going last night, not as potent as I thought it'd be (the vape, not the weed, one snap from my bong with this stuff puts me on my ass).

However, I ran into a problem. If I pull on it with more than just a little bit of force, my mouth gets like FILLED with particulates. The screen just doesn't do a very good job whatsoever of keeping it in place, every second pull I was getting a few bits and pieces on accident.

I put one of the included screens at the bottom, which kept me from blowing particulates through the vent on accident (which also happened when I exhaled with the mouthpiece too close to my mouth), and I tried placing one on top as well.

The one on top worked when I placed it perfectly, but the slightest bit out of place and it did nothing.

Is it just my screen in question, or is this a fairly common occurence? I'm using a 4 piece Space Case as my grinder for the record.

I've had my Ascent for about 2 months now. And have only used the included oil cans as a spacer. Maybe twice I've tried to fill the bowl full. And have the same results with particles in the mouth. And in my opinion the bowl is huge. Taste wise, again it's not as good as the Iolite. Iolite tasted great from the first time, no burn in required. Ascent has either gotten better or I'm getting use to the taste. I've replaced the 2nd Iolite with the Hammer. Hammer works well but not as convenient as Iolite. For the price I'd recommend the Iolite over the Ascent.

and that is just ONE persons opinion. i owned an Iolite for many years and i now own an Ascent. and in MY OPINION, the glass on glass airpath compared to the non glass airpath of the Iolite, the taste is in the Ascent is far superior to that of the Iolite. i liked my Iolite (except in the winter months since the cold affected the butane and made it difficult to get started alot) but i like the Ascent more for taste

WTF! Why! How!? I just found out a friend of mine ordered one and it arrived today, and he told me he's not very satisfied with the cleanliness of the vapor and it turned out after inspection that it has the same exact problem that mine did! Except with his you can only notice a gap at the top while you're pulling the stem upwards or else it's hard to see or capture on camera but it's there... (I have a feeling the other junctions that are throughout the straight stem tube are not air tight either, obviously and especially including how the top piece seems to be resting on the top of the stem column is many units, not even fully glued, let alone one straight piece that's airtight...)

EDIT: How do you add/ upload images on this site again??

I guess I got the good one. There are absolutely no leaks with or without the glass stem. There are not any seams showing and the glass screen fits extremely tight.
