Thanks folks for the clear instructions. I'll have to give it a try over the weekend. The only thing I don't have is something to smooth the sharp edges.

I got my Ascent on Wednesday, and I havent been that wowed to be honest. It is my first portable vape however, and I think I just got used to the clouds the extreme q would produce.

However, I do have a few concerns. I feel like the battery gauge is so inaccurate. I fully charged until the battery was a solid black... and started vaping. Like 10 mins in, it drops to about 50%.

But my biggest worry is that the up and down buttons to control the temperature arent very responsive. For every 2 presses, it will only register once. Even if I slow down between presses, and even if im pressing hard. Is this normal for the Ascent? has anyone experienced this?

I read someone mention a problem about a weird digital noise coming from the Ascent when its heated... its like a j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j-j sound. Didnt hear if there was any resolution for this. I dont care about the noise because its really low, but I dont want to have a defective unit.

Overall, my main concern is about the unresponsive buttons. I havent gotten great clouds yet, but still learning on using the Ascent, especially from this thread. I tried the method with putting a bit of bud at the bottom and putting the oil jar on top without the lid... it seems to come out brown, but I dont get much vapour.

Anyways, if someone could let me know if they had the button problem, that would be great. I did a search on google and couldnt find anything. I havent finished reading this entire thread cause its 166 pages long, but still working on it.

Thanks for any help guys!

Me too, not that impressed. No I don't have any problem cranking it up. It goes up quickly when holding button or one push at a time. However, when I crank it up from 380 to 420 it just shows the bowl already steaming, no thermometer like when I first turn it on. But my biggest thing is the bad taste. I'm on the fourth bowl now and it's gotten better but how much do I have to waste before its right? As I said before the Iolite never tasted like this.

You should have done a burn off and clean. Crank all the way up to high temp, with empty bowl and glass stems and do 3 sessions of 10 minute burn offs empty, then iso clean. When the smoking off ceases then load up

I've done two or three empty five minute runs and one iso clean, but it still tastes like electronics or something. I'll try doing another but how do you wipe down the glass screen, too small for the q-tip.

I use a q-tip and alcohol to clean cermaic bowl ..sometimes a tooth pick and alcohol towelette to get into tite spots. The screen glass stems i just put alcohol in a zip lock baggy and let soak for 20 min or until clean. You can also add some kosher salt to it and swish back and forth to help dislodge. Some of us had longer burn offs than others. :D

I'm new here, first post.

Either be medicated or ready to be before diving into this. Heretofore there be demons.

To let you know what direction I'll be coming from, I'm a geek that likes useful tech. Tech that I like to understand as much as possible as that is a good part of the enjoyment of 'toys' for me.

Another useful thing to know is my favorite motto, "He or she who dies with the most toys, wins."

My second favorite motto replaces "toys" with "data" as I like to work on systems using "big data".

That introduction made, I received notice today that an Ascent and a Pax I ordered, separately of course, have been shipped and I should receive them on the same day.

Of course this isn't about the Pax although I ordered both it and the Ascent for the same reason, having read discussions here in the relevant threads for both, every single page.

I didn't read every page because I wanted to be able to say I did so but instead, because of the gold that was scattered on each and every one of the pages of the two primary threads of which I write.

I'd would like to thank each and every contributor to this, or the Ascent pre-release thread and yeah, the Pax thread too as many of you in this thread have visited there from time to time as well.

And, not intending to blow sunshine up anyone's butts but, I've been on, modded, ran, coded and even operated a few of boards back in teh day on unrelated subjects and I have to say, the mods here are pretty good mods and friendly.

Except Max. ;)

Hopefully dodging Max's noose around my neck, one of the first things I hope to do with both the Pax and more importantly the Ascent, is to put them on my LiPo charger that I have for my radio controlled helicopters.

With that, I can tell exactly how many milliamp hours I put into the batteries in each and knowing how much I put in, I can drain each down and watch how many milliamp hours it takes to charge it back up again after a given run time.

It is essentially filling one's gas tank, driving X miles, filling the tank bank up again to know how much one used to know that if one wanted to drive Y miles, one would know how many X gallons of gas one needs.

Since a LiPo will last the longest by taking it no lower than 80% of its capacity, according to common "wisdom" and what has worked best for me over the years, I'll be able to figure out and share with those who have shared so much with me, what the best operating practices are for the best battery life cycle.

i.e. What is the lowest one should discharge the device in order to maintain the best longevity possible, which often doesn't coincide with automatic shutoff and relying on the automatic shutoff is a guaranteed of a short battery life.

There is really no such thing as charging too often but then again for some, charging as little as required is optimum which begs the question, how little is required.

At least that's the hope.

We'll see how it goes and how soon it is before Max's noose finds my neck. ;)

:)

EDIT : I'd like to give a shout out to Aaron at Davinci for helping me order the Ascent, the Burled Walnut model in case anyone asks. When I saw that it matches the wood trim and dash in my car, seriously, both the Angel on one shoulder and the Devil on the other said at the same time, "Do it, or I will!".

EDIT II : My mother will be so proud! I just got an award! I never win anything! I got an award for my first post!

Hi all,

I'm glad to see that most of you guys are fairing well with the Ascent! I just caught up on the thread and wanted to address a few concerns that were popping up.

I feel awful for those that are having issues, but appreciate you guys sticking with us. We have identified the culprit of the units suddenly not heating or even arriving DOA. Luckily it was an easy fix. It was a simple little wire coming unraveled from the PC board. We've since modified a few procedures and this issue will become less prevalent. If anyone has any issues with replacements just let me know...especially if you are overseas.

I also saw some speculation on the RMA's and the numbers. These RMA's are not all Ascents, that database contains everything from broken glass, broken adapters, promo units, lost packages, busted chargers (from both our customers and distribution)..and yes broken Ascents. We did replace pretty much all of the first batch which ate up a lot of those numbers.

So, just wanted to show up, say hi and let you know that we are still of course working on the pursuit of perfection.

Welcome

Appreciate someone from RC world w/ LiPo battery knowledge chiming in and will look forward to seeing your results. I seem to remember leaving for periods with <full charge was better then a full charge. Comments?

Receiving my Ascent in a couple of days, it is good to read your post helping to reinforce my decision to pull the trigger on the Ascent.

I like what seems to be your company's methodical approach to issues as they come up.

Of course nothing ever gets done as soon as one may particularly care for but I've come to learn through your comments and more importantly through your actions that solutions will be found for whatever problems that do crop up.

Otherwise I would have never bought the Ascent.

Great news on identifying and correcting the latest problem. Will units that have been returned with this problem be repaired or replaced? My RMA unit was received at DV this past Mon and a replacement has yet to be shipped.

Thanks for the welcome!

If a LiPo is not to be used for a while, reducing it's charge to about 90% is best and if one can keep the batteries cool or even cold, their continual decay will essentially be put on hold during the time they are maintained that way.

Now to figure the 80% mark.

Thanks for providing that update! One bit of feedback that you can take to your design team. The straight water tool adapter seems to be about an inch or so too long. When fully seated it should be close to flush with the top of the Ascent. Instead it sits well over an inch above the unit making whatever you put on top of it rather unstable and making it very easy (likely) to snap off. Perhaps I just don't understand the reasoning behind why it was made as long as it is?

Hereafter lies a lesson I learned so you don't have to.

When I got my Ascent I also got one of the EOs that DaVinci sells, "Recall" in this case. I decided to give it a try and put a couple of drops in an oil jar. I liked the flavour and the effects, it lasted for several hits, I even got a mild nice buzz from it—but that's not the lesson.

It never did stop giving me vapour, and I could see a little oil left in the jar, so I soaked it in ISO for a while and then tried to swab it all out with a Q-tip. I assumed I'd gotten it all because I couldn't see it anymore, but apparently not. Last night I had friend over to try the Ascent. Disaster!

He took one hit and said, "This thing tastes awful." I tried it and sure enough, it had a horrible taste that it never had before. Now as I've posted, I used the oil jar as a spacer. It took a bit of thought to realize that what had happened was that I actually hadn't gotten all the oil out of the jar, and the horrible taste was overcooked Recall. Do not do this at home, people.

I cleaned the Ascent with ISO and swapped in the second (never used) set of glass, but the taste lingered. Although it was faint, it still was enough to ruin the experience. (We're both pretty sensitive to flavours.) This morning the off taste has almost faded away, so there's no permanent damage.

The lesson here is to clean the oil jar thoroughly after use if you intend to use it as a spacer. If I'd used BHO or another concentrate in it, the outcome would have been the same: a nasty taste from overcooking whatever had been in the jar. I'm not sure yet how to make sure the jar is completely clean. Perhaps I should have just turned my butane torch on it. Thoughts on how to ensure the jar is totally clean would be appreciated.

So soaking it in iso and qtip wipe didn't work for you .
That always seems to work for me in regards to cleaning .

How long did you have it soaked in iso ?
Maybe longer time is needed , just a thought .

I had a similar experience with BHO in an oil jar. The unit never gets hot enough to completely remove all the oil from the jar. I used the honey in the jar method for my first session, and never again thereafter. I also never cleaned the jar, because I use it as a spacer and I figured that the honey would slowly vape a little off with each bowl of flowers. Instead it formed into a gross brown mess that ruined the flavor of several bowls before I identified it as my culprit. I could not get that crap out at first, not with alcohol or boiling water, not even with a torch.

A two day soak in 91% iso did the trick perfectly. I also find this to be the only method that will fully clean out the corners of the bottom section of the vapor path (the "snorkel").

Wow! That new carbon fiber model looks awesome! I'm very happy with my stealth model but when I have the $$ for two accents that will be the one!

Not nearly long enough, apparently.

Thanks Patrick. I had no idea it would take that long. The taste is pretty much gone now when I dry hit the Ascent with the unused glass. I heated it up and wiped out the bowl with ISO, since it had a light coating of—something. I'm giving it another empty heat cycle. Meanwhile the contaminated glass is off for a couple of days soaking.

Hey guys. This question goes to anyone who also owns an Ascent. I just got mine from GotVape. The device is beautiful, but there's a fatal flaw that will force me to return it for an Arizer Solo if it can't be corrected.

The glass mouthpiece, along with the pick tool, are incredibly difficult pull out and extend. The glass straw is so hard to pull out that I need the pick to do it. Getting the pick out requires a couple minutes of hurting my fingernails to pry it out of the socket. Anyone have the same problem or possibly found a way to fix it?

You might try a lubricant on the silicone sleeve till it wears in...maybe vegetable oil.
Same with the pick.
Mine is tight but not unacceptable.

Mine was same but in 2 days of use its much easier to pull out now. I've run it empty on 430 for a couple hours and its quit off-gassing. However it still tastes funny when empty. Has anyone else noticed it makes a noise when the heater element is on? I can tell it's during the heat cycle because when I turn it down it quits.

Hey everyone,
I just turned on my ascent and I hear a faint high pitched sound and a crackle when I put the ascent up to my ear. Is this normal? I haven't heard it before but haven't put it up to my ear before, either.. I don't seem to be getting the battery life everyone else is. It almost sounds like an old speaker when no music is playing. Would this be means for an exchange? I get around 4 12 minute sessions off a battery.

Mine does same thing. Only on third day of use.
