Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I've been keeping up on this thread since I got my Ascent and while it's been very entertaining and I'm learning a lot about vaps (first timer here), the Ascent has been about as 'unplug 'n play' as I could ask for.

Prior to vaping I preferred the smallest hitter possible (a little larger than the fake cig ones). I can take about double that amount of flowers, grind it, tamp it down medium with the can, and get about 4 good tasting hits over the course of two sessions. I usually heat to 365, wait about 20 seconds, 20-30 second slow sip, wait 20, turn off, wait 10 seconds, slow sip until it clears. rinse and repeat later, cash out espresso brown ABV.

I've also packed it full and just about every bowl size in between and have only seen the rising puck a couple times...mostly from people wanting to deep throat it. In general, the most I've had to do in the sense of maintenance during a session is an occasional stir. All the while, I've never seen the battery meter go below half...even when out for a night.

My only (very minor) complaints are

1) It is a bit difficult to pack though I've found pre-grinding my flowers and storing in an empty tic-tac box works nicely for pouring it in. Definitely needs a stand or a case that can help with this

2) Keeping it clean could be a bit challenging over time.

All of this said, I must say I can't shake the feeling that something bad's going to happen. I have no good reason to believe this based on my device, but after reading all the stories on here I am worried about what happens 6 months down the road when it, for instance, won't power on all the sudden or the hinge stops working properly, etc. This thing ain't cheap. Hopefully I'm just paranoid.

First post got ignored so i'll re-post this here....help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm new to vaping. I've tried packing chamomile, cats claw, peppermint, spearmint and none of them seem to produce any vapor clouds at all. Would packing weed make a huge difference on that?

I've tried lightly packing it, I've tried packing it down strongly with the glass canister as some have suggested. I've tried all different temps, higher ones just make smoke/ash. I tried with the screen in the bottom and without, same with the rubber cap on top. The only 'vapor' i get from this product at all taste like ash and smells like something is burning. (hint: i'm pretty damn sure it's not vapor) :bang:

Is there something I am missing? Is my product defective? Can anyone link me to a source that actually shows how someone is packing their chamber or describes in extreme detail?

I've seen some videos where people get consistently visible vapor clouds, is that actually what people are getting?

Two quick questions before I go ahead and order an Ascent:

1. When was the Ascent released?
2. Like any product, the initial few batches will have some defects. How is the Ascent in terms of this? Are most of the issues solved in newer versions, or is it better to wait (and if so, how long)?

Thanks in advance!

No. I meant curing as in concrete. That's specifically why I say concrete.

It's not secondary "oil and grease used in shipping" (Wait... exactly *HOW* do you ship things? When I walk into the FedEx office all oiled up, they always ask me immediately to leave. Or, in all fairness, maybe that has more do with not wearing pants...). It is a product of the silicone and its production. Just like concrete cures as a product of its fabrication.

Ever bought anything with metal? Think before you act like an ass. By the same token i could say there is concrete in these...

Thanks to the people in this community that aren't dicks... ahh the ignore button!

modnote: be nice.

Seems like Nigel was very helpful answering a LOT of your questions, armin.

We do like to inject a little humor into our responses sometime....

There are a LOT of helpful people on here and Nigel is one of the best...

Just my humble musings...

Solod out.
Didn't use separate loads. Just left the load in there with the can till the next day. No stirring, no reloading. And yeah, I did get two days worth of hits much like I do with my LSV with the same amount. Actually, I got more hits with the Ascent but what I didn't get was get two days of the same high that I get the LSV. On the second day with the Ascent, I got quite a few more hits but didn't feel them as much as I got with less hits from the LSV......if that makes any sense.
If you really want to conserve weed in the Ascent, wouldnt it be best if you place the small load in the oil can without the lid then into the device AFTER it has reached the set temp?

We're here to fuck shit up.
Had a chance to finally try out the Ascent via a member of this fine forum. I was impressed. The flavor was just excellent and I thought the user temp settings were awesome. I liked it and I look forward to trying it out again.

Wow. Really.

Nigel actually took the time to answer a question, with a dash of humor, and you reply with this shit.

I'd say an apology is in order.

And in all honesty, your curing question re: silicone used in the Ascent, were you high when you asked it, or did you not bother to read a single post in this thread where DaVinci addressed that question umpteen times?

It's understandable that you are standing up for Nigel but it is also not advisable because you are fanning the flames, especially with the tone you've adopted. A moderator has already dealt with the issue so you should just ignore the post and move on. The rule of thumb is not to respond to flames, report them.

I have a question for other Canucks who got their units directly through DV - how much were you charged for shipping and did you incur any customs/duty charges? Trying to determine if I should just bite the bullet and order through them as I am getting beyond fed up waiting for TV to eventually get stock from DV. The following was an email I received from them yesterday:

"Hi Connoisseurs:
If you've already cancelled or changed your Ascent order, please disregard this email.

We're just emailing you to update you on the progress of Da Vinci's new Ascent. Da Vinci is currently accepting pre-order, but no retailers have it as yet. We still don't have a firm date for when we will. We apologize again for the longer than anticipated wait time for this unit, but as we are not the manufacturer, unfortunately this is something that is entirely out of our control. We just wanted to let you know what's going on right now. As soon as we have a release date we'll be in touch.

We are still happy to cancel or switch your order, without any cancellation fees. This is a much longer wait than we expected or hoped for, but we still think the Ascent is worth the wait, and we hope you'll agree.

Thank you again for your understanding and if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for choosing TorontoVaporizer.ca :)
Kind Regards,
Rachel L."

How is it even possible that they still have no date for when they will get them. At this rate, it will literally be 2014 before TV gets their orders filled!

I can't speak about shipping to Canada as mine was sent to UK (for about $40-50 in normal shipping) but regarding the custom taxes, units are valued at $10 so I didn't have to pay any.

Absolutely, as well as immediately removing it after the session if I plan on re-vaping the load the next day but...........be forwarned. That oil can as well as the bowl itself is fucking HOT. :o

Also, I don't put the herb in the can, but under it. If I put the herb in the can, the can is no longer acting like a spacer and negates the need for the can in the first place.

I've read from many here who have scorched their fingers on the bowl which clearly gives testament that this is NOT a vape that is primarily convection. Unlike vapes, such as my LSV, where the wand is barely warm when taken out of the vape, the bowl and the oil can are very hot and stay hot for awhile and it's because of this that it will never be as efficient as a pure convection vape can be. Oh, I can get as many hits from it as say my LSV, but I won't get as high from the same amount of hits.

Now maybe I'm off base here, but thinking about this logically, when I load up the wand or WPA for my LSV, it is completely cold, but when I apply the vape to it, it immediately heats up to vape temp and I get all the fresh cannabinoids at once. With a vape like the Ascent, where the heat up time of the herb is longer, it is cooking off some of those cannabinoids before I ever hit it. Same thing happens between hits. The only way to solve that is to do, as you say, load up the herb in the vape after it's heated up, but then to also unload and reload the herb between hits, which is totally impractical. Nigel claims that the loss of cannabinoids due to the constant heat being applied is negligible, but for me, it is enough that I notice that it does affects the high that I get. Not to a great degree, but it's there.

My final thoughts on the Ascent is this.

First off, it's fucking beautiful.
Second, is that it's a great fucking portable. No extra parts to be carrying around. Easily slides into a pocket. Well made. Exudes quality. Thoroughly and evenly vapes your bud at the temp of your choosing. Great tasting due to the glass air and vapor path. But.........it is not a convection based home vape and never will be no matter how much you mod it. It is designed as a portable, and as a portable, it is, in my opinion, one of the best.

Can i use anny hash in it or only oily bubble?
Posible to fast cure new harvested buds in it? Like just leave it on for 10 min and take the hit?
Got no cured atm. I will at xmaz doh ^^ 3 weeks to harvest some L.S.D.

What temp to use to inhale thc and what temp to inhale the cbd after the thc toke is blown away?

Cbd = way better then those damn morphine phils. Just the witdraws from em makes me feal sick and shacke alot.

Praise lord for the universal medicine herb <3

If you google cannabinoid vaporization temperatures you can find a list with various cannabinoids, their effects, and vape temps. Funny you mention withdrawals, I've had a runny nose for the last couple days and only realized it went away when I took my pills :| At least that's as bad as it gets now...

It would be great if lwien, RD and others who've tried titrating with smaller amounts could elaborate on how well the Ascent works with 25mg or worst case 50mg. I've been using 15-25mg in the volcano for the last 6 years and am very reluctant to use larger amounts. I titrate for medicinal purposes since I find intoxicating levels of vaping uncomfortable and not really suited to my lifestyle.

I know lwien said that 50mg worked ok for 2 sessions over 2 days although it produced more hits with less effect compared to the LSV. Curious if he followed up with trying just 25mg alone and how it compared in terms of effects (not taste) to the LSV and the PD.

Likewise, RD used 25mg and said it was a good mini session with surprisingly large number of hits. However, in terms of medicinal value how would you rate it?

n.b. I usually follow up my 15-25mg vape session with physiotherapy and hot/cold compresses etc which potentiate it's medicinal effects for my condition.

Efficiency is key for me both for avoiding getting to intoxicating levels and due to how hard it is (for me anyway) to obtain MMJ in a country which frowns upon it. Growing isn't an option for me.

Many thanks

To take advantage of the magnet when opened, the best upright holder for filling I've found so far is an upside down (empty) 5oz tuna fish can (take the label off). Just the correct height.

Got it yesterday, finally just got a chance to try it for the 1st time and i LOVE it!!! This is my 6th vape since they started making them, and imho it takes vaping to a whole new level. Great cloud at 380, no coughing, just ONE long tasty sip of my normally 2-hit med and I'm all set. Can't yet judge the efficiency, but the efficacy, ease of use and health factors are unquestionable. I believe my 45-year search for the perfect delivery system is finally ended. :)

Important detail: with or without tuna in it? EDIT: damn just saw you had mentioned (empty)... so much for pre-ruining my joke, thanks a lot!

A more serious question to those that sent their unit back for a replacement one:
You guys only sent the unit and the charger right? no glass pieces? And did you receive a brand new one in its box with everything else?

The only thing I sent back was the unit itself with a good ISO cleaning. No glass and no charger.

My replacement was brand new in box with all new peripherals included.

Davinci should provide you with what they expect though when you initiate the process.

CMD There were 4 shipping options with different price points and I took the cheapest one which was about $30 American. The total bill on my Visa statement is $300.46 CDN and I will still have to pay tax and duty to the Govmint when I pick it up at the post office. I too wanted to wait for Toronto Vape to get them in stock but in one of my weaker moments decided to order direct from DaVinci because I was tired of waiting and also if there is a warranty claim it may be better to have ordered direct although TV is a reputable dealer.

What are the other 5 vapes that you've used?
The first was a generic wooden box with whip, then... vapolution, herborizer, iolite and mflb. The best of those was the herborizer other than it's fragility and non-portability. Worst was the iolite! The MFLB was ok when using the adaptor rather than batteries, except it always made me cough. As of yet I can't think of a single thing I dislike about the Ascent.
