I hope that someone representing DV acknowledges that they are or are not considering some form of spacer, just to quell the rumors.

I can unequivocally confirm that Davinci are or are not considering some form of spacer.

There. That better? :p

:) Yes they are working a few ideas. I believe the rep said so in the very thread.

They already have by stating that they are reserving glass sombrero's for those that need it. I am on that waiting list assuming that I will need one.

I was quite sure that someone said the sombrero was dead. I would like to be on that list if it does exist.

HINT: There is a "Like" button on each post. ;)

Sorry: The representative of DaVinci that is here on FC.

Yes, I use it. Still don't know who that would be. What handle?

I personally think those that have never owned or used the latest incarnation of the Ascent should refrain from posting opinions based on conjecture, hunches, inference, presumptions, supposition and any other synonym you can think of.

It serves no purpose at all.....even if it's presented eloquently.

Someone may have said that but being that DV said that she would add me to the waiting list, I doubt very much that the sombrero is dead.

If you pack it full and get nothing, then there is a problem. If you pack it lightly and get no vapor, then that is user error, mostly. This thing works as intended, maybe not just like all of US intend. It is intended to vape a full bowl. The smaller loads come from those of us that want smaller loads...we get to mod. There's nothing wrong with that. Could DV come up with some spacers that work great and broaden the unit's appeal? Probably. But I defy you to show me a vape that didn't get modded by this community.

The mflb is a fantastic product that has had many changes since release due to the company responding to our modifications. The PNPro still needs a good bullet holder for travel. I have Ed's stem for my Solo for safer travel and mating with glass. OK, maybe my vapor genies don't need modding, but I still have taken that cap and modded it to bongs for water rips. I have custom glass for my Extreme. I put an air filter in the bottom of my Cloud to reduce the noise. I made an entire ghetto rig for my Sublimator. I have a custom carb tube for my PD's. The entire log vape industry is fiddling with various VVPS systems. The FlashVape has had countless manufacturer mods making it appeal to more users. The VAP2 is perfect as it is. And this is just from what I own.

So let's get off the 'DV fucked up and I shouldn't have to fuck with it' bandwagon. This is nothing unusual in the industry and most people like fiddling with their vapes. If you don't like vapes being released and then improved as time goes on, then you need to either combust, use a Volcano, Vapolution2 or the VaporGenie. But you can say goodbye to innovation and things like portable digital temp control, because all of those vapes are ancient.

Shit can you see where your going in your house with all those vaps?? LOL So which is your absolute favourite and why? (and no you dont win a prize)

Still two holes? Did she drill from the bottom or from the inside? What type of drill bit, speed? Hand held or a drill press? I'd gladly pay $10 to get one modified. Same as you, the eng. in us.
Got drilled from the bottom with the windscreen repair drill, was unable to do from the inside. Just aligned two of the holes from the ascent and texta marked the spot where to drill. Smoothed off the holes with the diamond tip drill i got from people that do trophy`s or gem ornaments. They use that kind of drill all the time only cost me couple of bucks. Have to drill very very slowly. I dont think the drill bit goes as fast as a dentist one, more like the OLD belt dentist ones if any here are old enough to remember? Held on to it with rubber lined pliers lightly but firmly. Im sure you/anyone can find a mobile windscreen repair mob in phone book that will do it. You just say can you drill two small holes in a medical device part that should only take em 10 mins to do for $10 each in my case.

So I picked up an Ascent for a buddy. He gave the go ahead to do a little testing (so I could show him how to use it). First off, don't think there will be any issues. As far as I can tell, there's not much of a learning curve. (With the exception of "Don't use your pinky to pack the bowl down, it will burn you") (Which of course I managed to do before even packing it the first time).

First impression, good weight. Solid feel. Slight new vape smell others have mentioned. Charged the battery. Did an iso wipe down on the glass, bowl, and air path. Cranked it up 430 for a cycle. Still had some smell to it, but no noticeable taste. (Watched a for off-gassing, didn't see any).

Loaded some sour d, set to 375. I'm impressed with speed this unit heads up. The bottom of the unit gets a little warm, but by no means uncomfortable. Great taste. Good vapor production. Flavor was good up until the end. Evenly brown ABV.

Next I loaded a round with probably 20% full melt bubble. Set the personal vape timer for 395 for 3 mins, then 405, then to 415 (really like this feature). Great vapor production, taste. Lost track of time for a little bit.

I'm more of a concentrate person, but I really enjoyed using this.....So, the following day I had to head back to the show to grab one for myself. Also grabbed a glass on glass water tool adapter, which I'm enjoying.

My only complaint, (and it's been well documented here)is if the bowl pack rises slightly, the vapor production becomes extremely limited. I'll have to grab some glass flowers or beads like some many have suggested. *No problems with puck moving with large amounts of bubble.

"Large amounts of bubble" geez you must live in the same place as the other FC member that used a metal grinder for his HUGE supply LOL

Well it's as simple as taking a bit of hash (the one that you can model without heating just by using your fingers) and give it an oval disc shape smaller than the size of the oven that you'll just lay flat on top of your herb. with the heat it gets a bit sticky and it doesn't seem to move and if it does it prevents the herb from moving.

Edit: "my creation", maybe that's been done before by someone else and for other purposes but as I said I'm completely new to vaping (yes I'm a bit like Columbus claiming that he discovered a new world... wow that such a bad comparison I'm beginning to dislike myself!!)

Wish i had enough hash to make a oval shape the size of the oven, then again never did get enough plasticine in kinda either!!

I got plenty of hash, moroccan is common around here and is the only thing i use but i can't risk give 200€ to try and get no good results :(

I would have to agree. For me too precious. The one thing I still combust when available. A pipe dedicated, burns clean, zero residue. But not bubbly gooie. Just made from compressed keef, but got a very good compressor.

it really doesn't take much I use maybe a ball that has a diameter of 3mm and then flatten it in an oval shape, it's about 1mm thick then I'd say, that's good enough to prevent the puck from moving up and it doesn't seem to impact the airflow (note: why not making a couple of holes in it?), plus it certainly add some flavor.

My only concern with this is the stains I get on the bowl... I really hope I'll be able to clean those once I'll manage to get my hands on some iso. :hmm:

You might try insulating the H with a thin tuft of cotton to absorb the melt and keep it away from the bowl. Just an idea.

Thanks for the suggestion, I guess it'd work but (apart from adding its own flavor) that would make chocolate topping unnecessary then, might as well just use some cotton to prevent any movement, don't you think?

Edit: now that I think about it that would certainly help keeping the glass screen cleaner in the "long" run. I haven't looked at how quickly it gets dirty using the kinda "screen" but I assume it's faster than with herb only.

WOW! putting the straw into the down tube of an old bong and taking a hit was a uniquely pleasant surprise.

Wrapping hash & wax in cotton is a fairly common vaping practice that has zero impact on flavor. Folks use this method in all manner of vapes for the exact concern you raise...keeping the bowl clean.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's anything close to a bad idea, I remember how Sticks was having fun when he started experimenting with his beta unit and cotton!

What I was just pointing out is that since the cotton would take enough room in the oven on top of the herb to prevent it from moving, the hash screen would become unnecessary. And then I realized (and edited my post) that if one wanna still use some hash on top of their herb using cotton would prevent the glass screen from getting dirty or even sticky. So yes I should probably start looking for some organic cotton seeing how I find hash a lot more easily than herb! @Snappo

Eh, I just bought one as my combination birthday/Christmas present for the year. I surely hope I get one without issues. Wish me luck?

Also, was there anything definitive said in the multiple massive threads about what happens if the battery dies down the line?

just ordered an ascent today (finally) and now I am looking at what water pipes will work well with it and found this site. I went through a few dozen pages on this and saw a lot of suggestions that should/could work but didn't see anyone saying that they got XXX brand/type and that it works well. I am sure its in here somewhere but 135 pages of info is a bit of overload to take in all at once. Is there a water tool that would work for both the ascent, as well as for the volcano W/easy valve that I could use on both? Hope this isn't a question already asked 100 times but I did a search and couldn't find it.

I only have two pieces of glass that I use.

First the Pinnacle WT with 14mm adapter:

EDIT: I think the issue is automatically presuming that the experience we have is the experience everybody has. And it goes both ways. I've had people with problem units flat out tell me that I am wrong and that I have the same issue that they do, only I'm not smart enough to recognize it. And I'm sure I've projected my good working unit on to others (Like missing @Snappo's point about low vapor being due to physical leaks and only focusing on the packing as being problematic.)
Bravo, Nigel - you get it! You've succinctly wrapped your analytical mind around both sides of the issue, without taking personal exception to one side or the other.

Are we there yet! Some say yes, some say no. To those now enjoying V1.2 from those who said no to V1.1, enjoy! And THANK YOU, Davinci! Onward...

Well, I posted a few days back having problems with cloud production. I can now confirm that this was due to me learning the ropes rather than anything else. When people say pack it down they mean it and this does produce much better results. I have found though that vapor does increase with a slightly stronger draw but this tends to pull the puck up on occasion without spacers. Anyway, just thought I'd let any other noobs out there know that it is fairly easy to get to grips with and a great starting point to vaporising IMO. Next things to learn are abv options and iso reclaim. Thanks again to all the experts for doing all the testing to save us having to.
