Good morning all. Ive just read about the VV power supply and My take is that it's a variable voltage supply to enable adjustment of the CRZ's heat output. It can also be used for a CRZ with no problems. Am I correct or mistaken?

Pretty sure if you crank it all the way you can do some harm.

Then are you saying that it's a variable supply allowing adjustment from low heat to high heat? From what you say it could be adjusted too high producing damaging heat. Could I also use it for my brass MyrtleZap?

You can use it with your old MZ as well and it can be used to turn your unit hotter as well as colder. It's not recommended to leave it on it's highest setting (15V) for to long, but you could turn it up shortly to reduce heat up time when wanted.

If you crank it all the way and leave it there forever.....maybe it will do some harm. My take is our 15 volt maximum output VV power supply will be putting out less than an unregulated fixed voltage 13.5. I have not yet decided on 'warnings' or notices about keeping it cranked up to maximum voltage but I am very happy the one we picked stops at 15 volts. I do need to get them in stock and test a few before we make any decisions about maximum voltage output.
To repeat, the fixed voltage 12 volt stockers are doing close to 13.8 actual volts, with the zap load on the transformer. The jump from 13.8 to 15.0(VV) is not so big a jump but does make a big difference in finding the sweet spot. I also think most people will not want much more that 14.2/3 or so. The VV also will compensate for any out of spec ohm reading on the heaters.

I also think CRZ wood can take a slightly piped up heater very well because of the insulated heatport assembly and significant solid SS mass in the heatport. Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the wood in kewpcers overworked unit. That was a small piece too with very thin wood walls around the heatport.

Thanks Rick and Agony. Even I can understand that and it all sounds good. Sometimes both of my Zaps Brass and CRZ will run a bit cooler when the ambient temps cool down below 70F. to maybe 60 F., and this would enable positive heat compensation for the cool ambients.
This is great!!

the VV will compensate for ambient air variances and power grid variances and heater variances. The more I use it, I have concluded it is a "sweet spot" tool for the Zap and any other fixed temp log vape. Sometimes in a warm house with a high grid output, the fixed voltage transformer is even a bit too hot for us so the VV can/could also be used to turn the temp down just a little.
In the shop on a cold day, we set it closer to 14 volts. In a 70 degree house, closer to 13.5 volts. We like to keep the rich flavor of medium vape temps.

Today, over the last 4 hours, our electric grid output has ranged from 125 volts earlier to 118 volts right now. And now, a minute later, we are at 121 volts.....117........120.........119.........115.........116.........121.......120

My bubbler and stand came in today as promised. Excellent service as usual. Thanks Rick!

The bubbler and stand are both as beautiful as I expected they would be. Gonna be puffin tonight :)

Really excited for the VV.

I feel as if my zap runs a bit on the cool side (whether it's the grid i'm on or the ohm resistance or the wood type/thickness), but I just have this inkling that the VV is what I need to find that sweet spot and make adjustments. I also like the idea that you could turn the voltage down while away from home and still keep the unit on, and then just crank it up when it needs to be used. :tup:great idea to introduce this Rick!

Do you know for certain what the cost is going to be yet and how much the extra shipping charges will come out to?

My bubbler and stand just arrived as well. Really surprised by how small it is and totally blown away by the quality of the bubbler and stem holder. The glass seems very sturdy and Rick has done an amazing job smoothing out these holders.

Again, I can't believe how small these things are :o

OK, here is just one I got recently. I will copy/paste it from Email but I will delete any reference to any other vape maker and who sent it to me.

Thanks Rick - definitely enjoying it...
I have a friendship and loyalty to.......... so you'll understand that I'll "lay low" regarding praising your vape on FC but I'm glad I bought it.
I would say from two sessions with it that it's possible that the hits are a little stronger with your unit but the hits are more "refined" with the.........- either or, they're both great units.
Also for whatever reason, it's easier to blow out the duff from the tube with your unit than the........... - it doesn't stick to the screen.
Anyway good luck and thanks for writing back.

and...........
I received the new Myrtlezap and it looks and works great. The round shape fits much better in my arthritic hands. That's a big improvement.

Hope you continue to have success and the farm has a good year.
and....
that's exciting. everyone i introduce to the vaporizer is impressed. you've got quite a novelty item.
and........
Hi Zapman - how much do you charge for just the myrtlezap base unit? I'm an old customer and my original zap finally bit the dust after over 6 years of use. Thanks.

I can find lots of stuff like this, especially if I go to my old AOL Email account(ugh) but my point is, how does anybody know if it is true? The internet is full of liars and phony people. That is why I traditionally have never done "testimonials".

The bottom line as I have said before, is that we still sell a decent amount of Zaps every week after being in business since 2001. Zero advertising of any kind for several years. So why do people keep coming back? The product price and customer service. That is "goodwill" or "blue sky". It is an intangible asset on business balance sheets but can make or break a company.

Once again, apologies are in order. I will not mention another product or maker of such product on this thread. Any such information will be only via private Email, if at all.

Thanks all for the comments. I can take lots of heat if need be. Does not bother me at all. That is why we still do the customer service part of the business along with all the rest. I just have a very limited amount of time to spend doing this. As I mentioned somewhere we also have a small certified Organic Farm which takes lots of time and energy, especially this time of the year.

Madcap, shoot the heatport with some compressed air, that should do it. I am a bit confused though as there should be a small stainless screen in the heatport tube which will keep stuff from falling down into the heater area.

Thanks again all

Rick
I also find it amazing that you have not advertising and you do so well it great man. Word of mouth and a great product! On the other hand I do kinda wish you did have advertising so I wouldn't have wasted my money on the extreme dust collector q.

More fun today. I started looking for small scraps for some Bubbler holders. Corners of the shop not seen in months were perused. Much to my pleasant surprise, I found quite a few nice blocks of different woods. At first glance they looked too short because they were so fat but all were at least 4 inches. Very good news because I thought these blocks were too short. Bubbler holders got put off for a few hours so I could twist out a few more CRZs.
Here is one of the shortest. My guess is somebody around here may recognize the wood. This one is already snagged. My apologies for the quick pic done with too much light. This sweetie is 3 7/8" tall and under 2" wide. Bottom is slightly over 2".

Why, hallo thar MyrtleZap!

Those snakey grains and flames look mighty similar to a MZ that's cooking on my desk right now.

yup, you be right kewpcer. That is your wood from last year. I'll send it back to you with a heater it.

VV Power supply is on temporary hold until further notice. I received a nice batch of the unit I showed a page or two back today. Rated 15 volts max, 2 amp output. Apparently all Tattoo Machine power supplies are not created equal or the one I pulled for testing was an oddball. Over 15 volts output with no load but as soon as I put a Zap load on it, the voltage dropped to 13.8 volts. We need more than that to do the job right. I will double check results tomorrow.
Back to the drawing board. I have two other models coming but will not be here for awhile.
I am putting 3 beauties up tonight on the website. Two are unknown wood species.

Rick,
3 beauties going up tonight you say? well damnit, I am staying up late just to see these ladies.. hope I can control myself but I am feeling extra zappy tonight..

Rick, would you believe I have managed to break the solder again, totally not my fault, intoxicated friend dropped her.... got it fixed up in no time once I found my soldering gun... my solder is def ugly compared to your expertise but it sure as hell gets the job done.
