No you have it wrong. Out of the box Charge it for at least eight (8) hours then do your burn offs.

I didn't need to charge my Solo for 8 hours when I first got it. I just charged until the green light was solid. Did I screw up my Solo battery?

It's just what is recommended by the FC solo sages like @OF @Pipes @CentiZen. Thought it worthy knowledge to share but I ain't no tech guy so I can't tell you exactly why other then being told in these pages to do the long charge out of the box no matter what charge the battery has on it when you first turn it on.

I know other vape manufacturers recommend it before using such as Vapir for the NO2 and was in the original DaVinci instructions also. Not doing so may not "Damage" the battery per say but will limit the range for the deepest charge at least that's my understanding.

Out of the box run 2 or 3 burn-off cycles at 7 (don't charge, run it down and then charge it all the way up)

Are you serious, 8 hours?

Yes, he's serious. It's rude to ask a guys advice then question it IMO. His advice is sound. 8 hours is 'playing it safe'.

Yes, seriously.

You should not have done it incompletely, but far better than not doing it at all. As I understand it, not doing so doesn't lead to earlier failure as much as it reduces the potential capacity in each charge. Sometimes called a 'forming charge', it puts all the available material in play?

There's probably little damage from doing it after the initial discharge, but I'm not sure there's much to gain. In that position I'd give it the 'overnight treatment' (8 hour charge). At least several hours after the charge light goes off. The goal is to get the weaker one up to full capacity. Charging shuts down when the total of the two cells reaches the setpoint. This is sure to happen in one before the other no matter how closely they're balanced. The idea is to use the 'trickle charge' (perhaps more properly a 'search current'?) to bring the weaker of the two up as far as possible.

If the goal is 'the most' or 'best procedure', I think that advices is it. Fully charge before the first use, 8 hours is a good number. I won't speculate on less, that's a distraction IMO.

In routine use I recommend discharging until the lights are gone when you power up, then use it at most one more session before recharging. Don't cheat there, you're playing blind in a game where real battery damage comes from deep discharges. Check the level on each power up, go one more after the lights are gone but no more. Recharge until the top light is lit then end it while the charge LED is still flashing when you can. Every time you can do so you get at least one more 'free' recharge cycle. Seriously. You get maybe 300 cycles (at say 8 sessions per) going to the top, stop 10% short and you double the cycles. Drop another 20% and you double it again. Taking conservative numbers that's 300 cycles times 8 sessions per for 2400 total against say 1200 cycles at 6 per for 7200. Three times the total use. Check out the area around table 4:

Ok so I should only begin the burn-off cycles after I unbox & charge for 8 hours?

That would be my advice, yes.

Frankly, I'm not all that sold on burn off cycles, having tried with and without, but see it as 'chicken soup'. You know, 'can't hurt, might help'? IMO some vapes benefit from it, this is not really one of them.

If you're going to blow off one or the other I strongly recommend fully charging over burn offs.

Alright thanks. One other question, can I just smoke say half a bowl (for 6 mins) and then come back to it at a later time leaving it in the solo/stem, or do I have to go the full 12 minutes and empty the bowl before turning off the Solo? Because I've been on a tolerance break for 3.5 weeks, don't want to get too ripped today haha.

I got a solo a couple of weeks ago and it's the best. So the one i got had an M1Y serial number, got it from a guy on ebay. Today i tried to use it while charging for the first time and it worked great.

edm. Don't utter the "S" word around here. We vape! Your Solo session can be as long as you like. Just turn off by pressing the two silver buttons at the top. You can leave the hot stem in the vape or taken it out. I prefer to take my stem out so the herb doesn't continue to heat.

Have fun testing out your new toy. A Solo is a great choice for a portable vaporizer, very easy to use.:lmao:

Edit: I was referring to "smoke"

does anyone know if its bad for the battery to turn your solo off during the middle of a session? When I'm in a hurry and only want a few hits, I tend to only use my solo for half a session and then I'll manually turn it off when I'm done..

As said before me, no problem shutting it down manually mid-session, but remember you still have at least one (maybe two) hit(s) left after you shut it off, still producing effective vapor.
The way I use mine when I don't want to do a full session, I shut it down while inhaling on my last draw, and then take another draw before taking the stem out of the Solo for storage.

does anyone know if its bad for the battery to turn your solo off during the middle of a session?
I really don't see how, maybe disconnecting the battery manually mid-session would damage it, but when you press the two buttons to shut it off I think it does basically the same thing (on the software level) than when it turns itself down after the usual 12 minutes.

No problem, in fact just the opposite. The battery is only good for so many charge cycles, wasting part of one when you don't need it is wasting part of one when you don't need it.

The only possible downside is you lose ground heating up again next time, but if you're done with the session........

So what is the best website to get the Solo again? Price + Warranty is important to me. My main concern is being able to have the battery replaced because I know they can go bad quickly.

My recommendation is Randy at Puff It Up. Top notch support, good prices. I ordered another one from him the other day and got it in my hands 24 hours later. Honestly, one day, shipped free, in my hands. I'm about 80 miles away, he posted back the 'shipped' information within an hour.......beat that if you think you can.......

I see you also have the MFLB. The AA battery caps fit fine.
As do lipchap stick lids etc. but keep in mind to let the glass cool a few seconds befor capping.

Caps didn't come at the time I bought my MFLB. In fact, my 1st one has no diode: no light.

I tried Chapstick caps: too small. Too small for the bowl size: the side I want to contain

At one point I was using a short piece of 1/2 inch rubber tube with a bottle cap jammed in the other end. Then came the vinyl cap idea. It turns out you can get 400F rated caps, McMaster Carr sells 'em.

Hardware store 1/2 vinyl caps work fine, they need a bit of stretch, but Lowe's should be able to help you out. You probably don't want to take your stem in for fitting, but an AA battery is pretty innocent?

These work great for storing ground flowers. This size will hold a bowl or two:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CVC4HKY/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These are bigger:

http://www.amazon.com/Glass-Amber-Vials-Dram-Dozen/dp/B000AV8YWA/ref=sr_1_10?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1401848118&sr=1-10&keywords=Amber Glass Vials

They are airtight, odorless and block light. Because they only hold enough for 1-2 bowls and there is no airspace above the ground flowers, it keeps it very fresh.

The only drawback is that you may need to poke the flowers with a toothpick to loosen them up if you've packed them too tightly and they don't drop out easily.
