@ataxian you want bent stems i need gongs. endless cycle i guess.
those o rings are on there so I can make a seal for an 18mm male joint on my bubbler. damn oil rigs.
I have so much stuff!
However I will order some BENT STEMS (PHVES & STOCK)
I have GonG's:
14mm SHORTY PHVES (use rarely)
14mm PHVES (use a lot)
18mm STOCK (use the most) (thanks STU)
I want a 18mm PHVES

Like I said in a earlier post:

"Human wants are insatiable"!
I get what you're saying but disagree. What we should do is drop all this misleading talk about models. No useful information there for us to share IMO. It's confusing the new guys and NOBODY here knows what the real story is......not that that keeps them from sounding like they do.

I really believe there's a better than even chance Arizer is deliberately making it confusing......as in on purpose.

I agree with you on this one!
Forget the serial number debate.
VAPORIZE!
FLOWERS not LEAF!
If your're like me you'll be breaking one every now and again. That's why I will not spend over $75 for a WT, if they break you're out too much money. I'm too much of a clutz especially when very medicated, I'm sure you know what I mean.
You break glass?
I break glass nearly everyday of my life!

The PNWT is a good tool on their devices. I must be a clustz because I couldn't make it work with the SOLO. I found a $10 Bubbler and a $9 JHOOK (SHERLOCK) to work way better!

Don't believe all the marketing BS!

As soon as I pulled the plug out from the Solo, the plug head briefly made a hissing noise before that burning electronic smell exacerbated. After unplugging it from the wall and waiting a moment, I touched the adapter head and it was indeed warmer than usual, which left a powdery residue on my fingers. Toasted.

I did some searching on here and came across OF's post regarding a cheaper replacement. I've ordered these 2 parts and want to give a heavy thanks to OF!
PLUG, DC, POWER ADAPTER, 2.1mm MALE to 1.7mm FEMALE
POWER SUPPLY,TABLE TOP,40 WATT,7.5VDC@5.34AMP,F2,2.1MMX5.5MM,100-240VAC,UL,CEC

Bummer, but those parts should make a whole new PA for you.

However, reading of your trials, I think your PA itself might well be fine. I smell an intermittent short circuit, almost certainly in the plug (more likely the cable immediately outside the strain relief) which would cause the supply to shut down (what you saw happening). The last time was just less intermittent than the rest.

If you still have it, try cutting the last six inches off the cable (including the plug and questionable part of the cable) and plug it back in. I'm betting a new connector will put it back on line. Modern switchers (slang for the type of supply used here) are extremely dependable.....not so for cheap cables. I think you could well end up with two PAs.

Good luck with it.

I can't wait for my solo to get here, I've read the last 200 pages of this thread because I've been so intrigued by this beautiful machine. I just hope my expectations aren't too high, I never vaped before but I've also been clean for 4 weeks today (for job interviews), so I should have a low tolerance atm .. the second I hear back from one of my prospective employers I'm going to cloud 9

Scrappy, the Solo won't let you down. It's a wonderful little unit and produces a smooth and tasty vapor flavor. It's very dependable and durable. You probably saw where there was a Solo that still worked after being run over. Now that's durable. The new model has the right airflow for me.

My older model that I still use, I need to use the PVHES stems to improve the airflow. After years of combusting, I don't think my lungs have recovered. I don't like the feeling of not enough air.

torch it then scrape it with a razor

Naw, use SS ones, torch 'em until they glow. Nuke that sucker. I do it twice so I don't miss the part I'm holding them with (usually hemostats) then just brush the gray ash off and soldier on. Cleaner than new.

To save time I keep a jar of dirty ones (and another of clean ones) and just swap them out until I have enough to make getting the little torch lighter, brush and hemostats out. I like real fine screens so the klag up quick.

But don't be bashful with the heat, the screens can take a lot and they're plenty cheap.

After cutting off 6 inches and plugging it back in, the power adapter went to a solid green light! To confirm the connector is faulty, splicing it back to the adapter causes no green light to show. Not quite throwing it away just yet. Thanks!

Yeah I use some tweezers and torch both sides, making sure to rotate where the tweezers are holding on so I don't miss anything. The screens seem to cool down real fast, usually just blowing on it lightly will cool it down sufficiently so I can handle them with my fingers, then just a quick brush on both sides to push the particulates out. Like @OF I'm partial to the finer screens so they'll clog quickly but produce some clean reclaim in the stems. I think I've got three different screen sizes, extra fine on my bent stem, fine on my straight, and the standard one that came with the PVGONG is still in there. I actually prefer the extra fine one.

My screens are x fine as well. Less than $10 for 500 so I change them once and a while.
Sometimes I leave them in when I clean the whole stem. They last such a long time!
I have the older models so you will see what you like best with the newer version?
Get a stock GonG to begin with.

I was testing another portable and the SOLO still came out the winner!

Thank you for telling me how to fix my ASH COLLECTOR.

Hi all,
I ordered the solo today. My first Vape. What else do I need?
Screens?
Water filtration? If so, how to connect it with the Solo?
Recommendations with links in Canada will be appreciated!
Thanks!

Cool. You're exactly one connector short of two PAs it seems. Too bad you didn't know to order the part from Jameco while you had the card warmed up, there's a $10 minimum......

Anyway, you're welcome, glad it worked out, wish I got to you sooner. Maybe next time?

thanks for the replies did not know about the torch method....guess I need to get a torch haha

This is my favorite one, after trying a lot of different ones. Plenty cheap (three bucks shipped), I suggest a couple not because they die (I've yet to kill one unlike similar ones) but they're handy to spread around the house so you don't have to look for them all the time. Good for lighting candles, too.

Typically they take about 3 weeks to get here.

18mm or 14mm I have both!
Maybe go with the stock to begin with?

Screens 1/2" = ebay 500/$10 +/-?

The stock stems are a good place to start.

ASH COLLECTORS fitted with a SHERLOCK or BUBBLERS are enough.

Dry with the SOLO is very good!
Wet is also amazing!

@ataxian has you set with the good info, the ONLY thing I would recommend doing differently is waiting to get your Solo first and use it stock. If you get one of the newest models it will probably have different airflow than the older models, the newer ones being easier to draw on and the older ones being likened to a milkshake. With the newer "open airflow" Solos you may not even need to get one of Planet Vape's high efficiency stems, it may be too much airflow for your liking, so I recommend testing it out first.

An easy way to make a GonG adapter for water paths is using an 18-to-14mm reducer and one of those disposable ecig condoms such as this http://www.migcigs.com/e-cig-silicone-disposable-tips-p/soft-tip1.htm I don't buy them, I have an ecig shop in town I go to and they give the tips out when sampling juice (health code laws) and I just hang on to it. Anyways, you'll want to cut out the "skirt" part at the bottom, and that fits over the top of your stems. Then just push the reducer in place and the silicone skirt will provide an airtight seal.

You don't even need the 18-14 reducer if your glass pieces are already 14mm. I have one of the older Solo models and would have preferred to get one of the standard GonG adapters (non-high efficiency), but lots of people with the older Solos prefer the PVHES stems. Personal preferences and stuff. PV is in Canada.

How often I would need to replace the screen?

"ASH COLLECTORS fitted with a SHERLOCK or BUBBLERS are enough."
What are these?
Thanks!

I just got a brand new unit through warranty replacement with Arizer. The unit worked fine for the first 5 days, but now it refuses to heat up and instead shuts itself off. It is fully charged, when I plug it in all 7 amber lights are lit and the green charge light is solid. I turn the unit on and set it to any heat setting. The blue idle light is solid and the red heat light blinks. However none of the 7 amber lights turn on, indicating that it is never heating up. Then it shuts itself off within 20 seconds. If Arizer has to send me a new unit, there's no way I'm going to pay for the cross shipment. Any of you guys experience this? Again, it is a brand new unit with model number M1A4 on the bottom.

I'm sorry to hear this, but I start to believe that arizer replaces faulty units with repaired/refurbished ones, not really new ones. M1A4 were a few months back, but from what I read they are work horses.

Replace as you want, I've been using my extra fine screen since I got my Solo and it's still doing fine. I bought 10 1/2 inch screens and ended up losing more than I threw away, and I still don't need extra screens as I have some laying around.

Ash collector/ash catcher is a piece of glass, same with sherlock (it's known as a j-hook) and bubblers are... well, bubblers.

Sounds like it's failing to heat up, maybe a loose connection inside... Are you turning it on with the cable plugged in or disconnected from everything? I'm not terribly good at diagnosing the more intricate problems of the Solo, maybe @OF or @Pipes would know, but unfortunately it sounds like you're gonna have to get that one replaced if it doesn't fix itself...

Yes I'm unplugging it before turning it on. From what I've read, the blue idle light should not be on while the unit is heating up. I'm going to talk to arizer and insist I get a new unit sent for free. What is the latest model #?
