First off, fully charge the battery. Before doing anything else, no matter how tempting. It will pay off in battery life.

Grind medium, pack at least moderately, very dry for best initial results IMO. Try it at Step 3 or 4 (seems the most popular, up to 7 with a bubbler or other WT.

You can also just stuff in a well cured nug and go for it.

Fiddle around a bit, go with what works best for you.

Be careful inserting the stems the first few times, it can take some force until the seal relaxes some. Be sure it's going in straight. Eventually it'll loosen up enough so the stems fall out.

Until you get good at loading, hold the stem upright and turn the Solo on it's head.....unless you like cleaning up spilled bud.

Hi VV, welcome to the Solo club - almost! Ok, so here are my tips for getting the most from your Solo. This list is by no means exhaustive, I'm sure others here will have further pointers for you:

1) Before 1st use, to burn off any residues left over from the production process, heat to Level 7 for 2-3 full 12 minute cycles (after each cycle the Solo beeps and powers off).

2) Before 1st use, clean the stems with warm water, leave to air dry and if necessary dry off completely with some rolled up kitchen paper before use.

3) Insert a screen to avoid any tiny pieces of herb being drawn up the stem, into your mouth.

4) Grind you herb to a medium, fluffy consistency. Avoid using damp herb if possible.

5) Pack your stem about 1/2 to 3/4 full. Over packing can diminish the Solo's performance.

6) Pre-heat to the desired temperature before inserting the stem. Newcomers to vaping may possibly prefer Level 6 to begin with, as this level tends to produce a more smoke-like vapour.

7) A slow draw does seem best with the stems supplied. Some FC members also use alternative stems as they find these can offer less resistance, but I personally find the originals fine. If you do find the draw too tight, you can always try lifting the stem ever so slightly so that's it's no longer flush with the heating chamber - this can make a big difference.

8) Keep happily vaping until no more quality vapour is produced, or until you can take no more ;)

9) As soon as you're done tip the Solo up-side-down to remove and empty the stem. This avoids any herbs sticking to the chamber and stem, which for optimal performance are probably best kept clean.

EDIT: Oh, and what OF says ^^^^ about using the stems for the first time is REALLY worth noting. They'll feel like they're too wide to fit properly at first, but gentle firm perseverance will pay off ;)

As a starting point I suggest sucking up all it will hold, then pressing it into the stem with a finger so it's 1/16 inch or so inside the rim. This keeps the goods off the hot metal directly and helps hold it in place when you pull the stem to cheat a peek.

Any suggestions on how to hook up the f-bomb up to a PD ? I have a feeling the tube might get here before the vape. Ended up getting the vape off ebay from a top rated seller.

The f-bomb should mate with a PD stem (shorty if you've got it would be best).

Yeah! I really love my Ed's wood stems too! Got 2 now, and gonna go for a third (the Shorty, custom, with mods). I know Ed's busy, so he can have as much time as he needs. Believe me, it'll be worth the wait! They look sensational (incredible wood selection), draw cool and easier than OEM, don't break, hold in snug, and make the whole assembly pocket friendly!

In addition to all the above excellent tips, I would also recommend sticking a screen to the bottom of the heating chamber. It will keep the stem from touching the bottom of the SS heater thus giving you much better airflow and will also minimize herb pieces touching the SS hot surface, being scorched and ruining the taste. ;) There is a slight drop in the temps achived but the Solo is too hot anyways. At least for herbs...

I've been thinking a bit about this. Fun idea, not useful personally but fun idea to think about.

Let me suggest taking it a step further? Since the gadget is in the backpack, why not put a pair of check valves there as well (low pressure 'demand' valves like the exhaust valve in a SCUBA rig?). That way you can draw vapor from the Solo one way, hold the hit a few seconds then blow it back down the tube through the other valve and into the activated carbon vapor/smell trap?

Those valves are rock simple, one inch or so diameter soft rubber 'flapper valves'.

Another fun idea might be to rig up a pair of squeeze bulb remote shutter releases to push the buttons inside on demand? You'd squeeze both together to start or stop. The click up steps. If you get lost, click down like 10 times and go up again..... At the end of the session, just run it to the bottom and let it idle until it times out.

I want one of these imaginary devices....I need a remote to turn the solo on and off with the numbers in the remote but counting works as long as on off does on the remote....make me one now now now....:rofl:

Just for a point of interest or not...how I used my solo at the beginning, after wanting to throw it out the window, is way different then now. It just seems like over time you don't have to do it like a beginner cause you can adjust after fully learning this wonderful vaporizer. I hated it for at least two weeks, then I liked it when I picked it back up after a break(allergy season with new solo=no good), and then I learned it over time and now it is just a magically vape that I can use any type of herb, fine(ok I don't use fine but can), course, a nug or anything in between...even moist but of course it hinders taste.

I think people that don't like the solo give it the time it takes to learn it. The huge restriction can be a turn off and now I don't notice it cause it is perfect the way it is.

all i can say is hive mind been using my smoke buddy (which works very well btw)so was thinking about making an adaptor so you have a replaceable filter

Hmm... My friend loaned me a micro g pen, its not bad but not liking it very much, maybe gotta read up on how to use it properly

Makes me look at my Solo. I was thinking of getting some cotton off my qtip and pasting some goo on the cotton ball and sticking to the screen on my pvhes

Then fire it up to maybe 7 and draw- would it work? Any better tips of working wit concentrates?

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
Just take the qtip swab and 'wrap' your concentrate in the center, then place it in your PHES.

Less mess, and works great as it melts 'into' the cotton.... rather than the screen ;)

I enjoy my 5 level stepping up to a couple sessions of 6 level until there's just no more to give when using cotton and dabs (but to each their own for whatever gets them there :nod:).

EDIT: a herb dab sandwich is a tasty treat that gets ya by the booboo as suggested by cv :tup:
