I hope you're enjoying it! I have the same piece (just clear) and every time I go to a friends house or in a travel I take it with me! I love to use it with my Solo :freak:

Greetings everyone.

My Solo was delivered to me earlier today, but due to exams I won't be able to enjoy it for another 2 day's time. I couldn't refrain from unboxing and charging it, just to make sure everything works, but unfortunately there's one thing that's bugging me. It's been charging for over 5 hours, but the green light keeps blinking, and doesn't go solid as the manual indicates. For most of the time only the #1 LED is burning, and every now and then all 7 go on, before going back to just the one burning. I assume this is normal, but for the past 4 hours it's indicated (with the 7 LEDs) that it's fully charged, yet it's never reached the point where the green light stays solid. How should I interpret this? I'm certain that it's not a sign of a problem, but I just don't like that it's not the expected behavior.

Extra note: when I turn it on, first the one #7 LED turns on, followed by the first 6 turning on. If it was fully charged, would I expect all 7 to light up?

The green light will stay on when fully charged , the first charge up will take longer . ime
And it sounds like you interrupted the charging , to ' test ' turning it on , not a big deal . ime
So you might as well do the ' burn off ' sessions at level 7 , until you get rid of the electronic smell .
And your Solo will be ready for use after your exams .

Welcome to FC .

Thank you for the response.

I did interrupt the charging, after 3-4 hours, because the green light never went solid. I wanted to turn it on so that it would indicate how far it's charged. It only showed that it reached 6, even after another 4 hours of charging.

Afterwards I turned it on, with heat level 7, and left it on for two separate 12 minute sessions. The battery dropped from 6 to 3. Is this normal, or should it last longer? Because I've contacted the supplier, and they'll send a replacement for just the unit at the start of next week, but I'd only want to do that if the unit I currently have is faulty or less than optimal.

Can anybody conclude if there's a problem with the battery? Or know how I should test if there is a problem? I'm charging it again to see how far it gets this time.

Not possible to say yet, follow the directions, charge it fully a few times before you put any stock in things. The first time or two can be very different as the battery fully forms (last bit of chemicals available undergo conversion) and the current finally drops below the cut off.

Ignore the time until then. The charge rate is fixed for most of the charge (limited to a safe value, but as fast as possible within that limit, so called 'Constant Current' or CC mode), near the end it switches to 'stay under the magic voltage' (Constant Voltage mode, CV). This mode can have very small currents running for some time trying to convert the last of the chemicals to useful ends for us.

What directions are you referring to? And for how long must it charge before I'll be able to tell if it's faulty or not? I'd love to have patience, but I need to let the supplier know if I want the replacement. Would you recommend that I just keep it for a while, charging and draining it to see if the battery "fully forms", and then let the supplier know whether it's necessary to replace? I'll just have to hear whether they'd prefer it returned unused...

Also, for how many 12 minute sessions would you be able to run your Solo at level 7, before the battery is flat? I feel this would be a good way to gauge my battery's performance.

Charge it until the cycle completes before using it the first time....I guess we're past that now?

I'd suggest charging it until it completes, using it a few sessions, then recharging fully again a time or two before using normally. You should be able to do it in a few hours I'd think.

No, that's not really a reliable test I think. I found almost two to one increase in battery consumption between idle and pulling lots of cold air through it. Duty cycle is close to 50% at step 7 (on half the time), more if you use it heavily. The battery is roughly two Ah and the heater about 2 Amps so you'll get four or so sessions of 12 minutes each? At lower levels the duty cycle goes down a fair bit, 6 or 7 sessions is probably typical there? Remember, there's still battery capacity (you probably shouldn't routinely use if you want maximum battery life) after the 'battery level lights' all go out.

I don't follow the 'prefer it returned unused' part, aren't you using it now? If you mean not putting bud in it, that's between you and them I guess. When I got my first one replaced (didn't get hot) they just sent me the unit and charger (even though I'd never loaded it up, it never came up, they told me what to do, others may differ there).

Thanks for the response. I've contacted the supplier and I'm going to wait a while before letting them know if a replacement is necessary.

I haven't vaped with it, yet. Still got one final exam tomorrow, so I'll try it out afterwards. It just came to mind that they might not prefer to receive it smelling of indoor, but I over-think things when I've been sober for this long. They said it's fine and I can use it.

I don't know why you're convincing yourself otherwise...the model number should mean nothing to you.

Right, because it's not a model number, it's a production batch number. We don't know why Arizer changes it, but it doesn't usually correspond with any acknowledged differences between production batches.

Production number...model number...apart from being a nit picking , what is your point?

Yet still it is a model number, as any Arizer solo is a model. (nit picking back)

Also I believe we have figured out some slight differences in some of the models/ batches. anything m104 and lower had a ceramic coating on the crucible that eventually chipped off most units, m105 apparently ran a few degrees cooler than all the other models but was the first with the all SS crucible. the m106-m1a/m1b all returned to the normal temperatures. at some point arizer did change the battery read out to display just the idle light long before the battery is actually low. not exactly sure when this happened but those are all the major changes between model numbers that we know about

I'm curious?
My 2 SOLOS operate best at 3 dry and 4 wet.
If I try at a higher setting the flavor is diminished!
Level 4 before bed through water.
Some units require higher temperature levels to vaporize?
Or some people just like the burnt flavor similar to combustion?

The point is that people make a big fuss over a serial number that Ariser themselves have explained is not meaningful in terms of describing variations of the Solo. Yes, some changes (notably from the ceramic-coated to the SS bowl) coincided with a change in the serial number prefix. That does not mean there's is the slightest difference between the "M1A4" and the "M1A3". To talk about it as though it made any difference except production date simply confuses the issue without providing any useful information.

Your nitpicking is invalid. It is a serial number not a model number. "Any Solo" is not a model, since a model is defined by the design and applies to all units manufactured with that design. Adding to the confusion, the so-called "model number" here wouldn't be a model number even if it did mean something other than production batch, it would be a version number.

It is my conservative mode, i take aromas and thc from fresh flowers with uneven heating like mflb or FV or hammer or vaponic: i obtain uneven AVB n°1. And this setting is for full extracting matters for the evening at full blast 7 with solo with AVB n°1 and most of time hash or kief.

I use solo for aromas with fresh flowers on dry hits sometimes but most of time is for total extraction+water.

Very well said!

Two are made a 1 1/2 years apart different serial numbers.
Same firmware.
Replaced one of the battery packs.
They both work exactly the same!

I guess there are many different uses!
Thanks for the clarification!

For all you people using the Solo with a water tool, can you tell me how it is? How much of an improvement is it? How much do I have to spend to get a nice setup?

It depends what you mean by improvement. water path will rob you of flavor but make it much smoother do you can take bigger hits. I like both ways and switch back and forth depending on my mood. You don't have to spend much or you can spend thousands depending on what you want. a lot of people like the pipesdaddy $40 bubbler, you could add a gong adapter for another $25. for less irritation and less flavor a lot of people like a little bigger piece like the SSFG travel tube.

There are 2 important factors with water tools, volume and diffusion. more volume and more diffusion each mean less harsh but less flavor

Great IMO. Running it at 7 and milking out the heavy stuff is easy and painless. Worth trying if you have the bucks. $40 for the Infamous Bubbler, $20 for the GonG stem for me (although you can use you stocker in a pinch). If you like such things IMO it give new breadth to your Solo fun.
