I just received my PVHES straight turbo stem from PV and so far im liking it! What is the difference between the straight and the straight turbo stem? they only had the turbo one when I ordered mine but I'm happy I got it when I did considering you cant order from the site for the next week.

The PVHES straight has the regular 4 holes like the stock stems .
But I think PV are sending along with a screen in it .
I got one .

From the looks of it the Turbo option is one large hole with a glass rim to hold a screen.

Thanks for info! I'm liking it so far and it seems like my AVB isnt as brown as it was with the stock stems. I have over 2oz of AVB and cannot wait to make some goodies

I know some of our good folks here don't like the freer draw that the turbo affords, . . . I love it!!! Also love my Ed's wood stems. They draw a bit easier than stock, impart a bit cooler vapor, hold a bit more product, are wood flavor neutral, and look stunning!!! Enjoy!!!

Snappo, I also love the Ed's stem. The vapor is cooler; I don't know if it's entirely wood flavor neutral, but I like the over effect. I'm also loving the Solo which I only bought because of the enthusiasm of so many of its users.

This is kind of a dumb question, but how does the herb material stay in the bowl and not fall into the chamber? Also, on a scale of Volcano ground material to MFLB ground material, to what degree should one grind the herbs to get the best results out of the Solo?

Just push it in hard enough that it will stay in place. I personally put the stem in a jar full of ground herb and push it against the wall and then pack it in a little. I don't press it down to make it tight but I do press it just enough it stays in place when I turn the stem upside down or tap it against the edge of the jar a couple time to make sure it won't all fall out

A lot of people like the inhale to suck up the herb like a vacuum and then press it down a little but I have weak (in terms of draw power, haha) lungs so it doesn't work very well for me hence the method I described to load the stem up.

Has anyone ever thought of designing a usb charger? I feel like via usb port is the only way that hasnt been done.
I have a lot of usb outlet plugs that would make it easier to bring the charger around. Just shooting that idea out there if its easy enough to do

USB charging would be amazing on the SOLO but the fact of the matter is it would not be possible!

USB charging works because everything that can charge over USB uses 5V and the SOLO needs ~7.5V to heat and ~12V to charge

I think the first statement is right, the second is a bit wide of the mark perhaps? It's true that vapes that charge from USB ports tend to be powered by a single battery so need a bit over four Volts fitting the USB 5 Volt level like the proverbial glove.

While we need 12 (well over ten) the issue I think might be power, not voltage. Higher power USB ports are good for 1 Amp (laptops and some earlier ones half that). 1 Amp times 5 Volts is 5 Watts. We can us a "DC to DC" converter to raise the 5 Volts up to 10 or 12 but that won't magically make more power. The available current will be under 1 Amp by a ratio of 5:12 in an ideal (100% efficiency) case. Using a realistic 80% efficiency we'd expect something like 4 Watts, at 12 Volts that's .3 Amps. We need nearly 3 times that. An interesting idea might be to make 3 such converters at four Volts each output but isolated from each other (needing small transformers, not more simple systems) then put them in series for 12 Volts total at more power than needed. Each USB port is independent, it should work fine.

I think the reason most don't have usb is because it is way slower to charge...guess that would be the less voltage thing and other stuff I know nothing about.

I'm hoping someone can clarify before I use the solo for the first time (model M1A) - does it come charged to where I can do a few dry runs, then a few more sessions to get the battery down enough to where I can get a full charge (trying to optimize long-term battery life... have heard that batteries last longer when almost completely depleted then fully charged)? Or do I need to fully charge it first, then heat it up for a few 12 minute dry runs on 7? The last thing I want is to limit the battery from the get-go.
Additionally, I've seen some users report that you can keep the unit charging overnight without issues, but I am reluctant to do so unless I find out that it has a feature similar to the PAX where it cannot be "overcharged". Is this the case with the solo?

Don't have to worry about overcharging....batteries will last longer if you top up as much as possible. Keeping the battery above 40 percent will keep them longer. I have a m102 that still had enough battery life for 5 sessions. Now I have a new battery pack in there. Just charge as much as possible and don't let the batteries fully discharge too much.

Thanks, good to know I don't have to worry about leaving it in the charger. I understand the part about charging the solo and topping it off (in between sessions, etc.) but am more worried about the initial charge.

My advice is never run the battery down flat, and avoid the bottom end of the charge. That advice comes from a lame way of dealing with battery life estimates, our 'gas gauge' is adjusted with maximum battery life in mind. Recall guys saying 'you can still get a couple more sessions after the last LED goes out'? Doesn't mean you should. In fact that scale was adjusted along the way specifically so owners wouldn't 'run the tank to the bottom' all the time.

Batteries can die from lots of things. But like people, a few things seem to kill most off about the same time. Funny how that is. Engineers rate their expected life in "cycles" of charging an discharging. The then introduce 'fudge factors' for heat, deep discharges and so on. Under ideal conditions you might get 500 or even more cycles, 300 is more realistic. And less if you hammer it. Run it 'off the bottom' a few times and that number can become 100 or less. It's in the nature of the beast as I understand them. This says to me that you want to use them fairly completely each cycle. I generally don't charge again until I get down to 2 lights or so. It won't last forever, but hopefully a few years (many hundreds of cycles). I'm not a fan to 'topping up' all the time. Capacity suffers.

I think there's not penalty for leaving it plugged into the charger, there's a proper charge controller on board, and a separate protection board in the battery pack. Overcharging is not a threat, it's charging too often if that makes sense?

That's my take anyway. IMO worth the price of admission at best.

Haha felt the same way, while going through this thread..but kudos to all for experimenting with Solo so much..it really helps us noobs...for starters get a Solo with Pvhes stem..use it for a while ..and u can get other addons later on

My HOBBY is woodworking so I bought a ED's Wood Stem becauce I broke 10 of the glass bent stems that I love. The ED's stem filled the gap until I got some TRAVEL TUBES and STOCK STRAIGHT STEMS (GLASS).
Plus since adding a padded (floor & counter tops) to my SMA (Stealth Medication Area) my glass is safer.

ED's WOOD STEMS are wonderful for durability and they do look nice.
However for me Glass is the preferred material for FLAVOR in my case.

If you like the taste of wood better than glass then you have found your HOLY GRAIL!

i broke my da buddha heater cover so bin solo only for a few days. just had 3 or 4 bowls and im felling good right now chilling with some tunes. loveing my solo and its even better with water the solo is so easy to pair with water with no wires hang in the way and just a small glass bow from solo to bong its perfection. only down side is i only have one and as a heavy user gutted when i need to charge it so could do with 1 or 2 more as back ups would be good the solo is that good that i would want 3 of them

any way just wanted to thank ataxian as i saw your j hook set up which inspired me to go get a j hook and a 8 arm precooler and i got just a single defused precooler as well for more flavor hits and puting them together i can take big fat vapor rips and it just looks cool.

Big thanks to THE ROBOT GUY Ataxian for the dry path idea.

It works great earlier in the day with daytime materials and temps.

I found it can hold a single piece of fat ice with out worrying about melt.

Also small enough to pop it in the freezer for uber cold flavors with out water filtration's.

I'm getting a gram of wax tomorrow. Now, I'm kind of new to the whole wax scene...I've just been mainly smoking herb. If i put some wax in the middle of some herb and put the Solo to 7, will it vape the wax you think?

have been wondering this as well?
I know some people have used organic cotton balls, but noone has really said which is the best method.
