I suppose 20 years in the Air Force working on jets might have had something to do with that.
I don't know about you ears of course, but this absolutely can happen. I saw it in the 1970s as a young lad at my first 'real job'. We had built an electronic motion detector that had the then new 'Sonalert' as the sounder. 2600 CPS IIRC, one of two frequencies available, loud as can be, painful even. Only 'the Old Man' was a fighter jock from Korea and apparently Sabres whine at that pitch, he couldn't hear it. Half a dozen adults swearing it was working, him thinking us liars trying to cover for a late project. I finally ran downstairs, grabbed the Simpson, and clipped the meter leads on the Sonalert so Mainhart could see the needle move when he did. We changed to the other pitched unit (higher IIRC) and had no more problems.
I brought in my audio generator and headphones and we did an informal test, he had a neat 'notch' in his hearing right there, he could hear OK above and below the magic pitch. He was unaware of it and had me leave the gear with him for a few days. I guess as it degrades you don't notice it?
Not all that much being said these days worth hearing anyway........
Enjoy your Solo, you bought it to make vapor for you not to listen to, right?
