not so worried about local post office. Worried about going to Canada which I believe is where it would have to be sent to. My bowl/chamber will only get so clean, and it does smell as it should all things considered. I would hate to buy a battery and the same thing happens. Can not really find any info what a dying battery does to the Solo? Am I a very careful person, hell yes and glad. People here in Nj go to jail for these things, or at least pay big fines and such.

Do you realize how many used Solos get sent across the border? The Solo is a top seller, has been out there for years, and no one has ever reported an incident. It's not hard to understand why. They would first have to detect that it has some residue (highly unlikely) then they would have to test it to show that it was residue from contraband (expensive and time-consuming) then they would have to track you down and prove you were actually the shipper, all for a charge of... what, exactly? It will never happen. The absolute worst case is that the Solo gets confiscated. I've never heard of that happening either. If anything, they'd go after the manufacturers: Arizer, Herbalaire, Pharmacore, FlashVAPE... all Canadian companies, all servicing used units, none of them ever in trouble for it.

My Solo seems to not charge. It has done this once before. Sits on idle with the charge light blinking.

Isnt there a reset procedure? I can't remember what exactly it is, and too naseuous to read and search.

Thanks

Edit: unplugged it and plugged it back it. Its charging now and I am medicating, feeling better.

I want to buy a 18mm PVHES gong adapter, but I don't know which one to get, because my local seller offers ones with and without a hole at the side. Which one should I go with? I'd like to use the adapter in combination with a DHGate D020 2-W.

Normally guys go without the 'carb' hole unless they specifically want it (it's used to 'clear' the piece rather than lifting a connection). However, IMO it's not a big deal otherwise. I got my first GonG with the carb hole since it was all there were in stock. I put a couple wraps of Teflon 'plumber's tape' (like you'd use on pipe threads, thin ribbon without adhesive) around it and never looked back.

If you're not sure if you want a carb hole or not I suggest getting it and trying. It's much easier to block the hole if you don't like it than to put one in........

Thanks for all the great info on this thread. About to pick up one of those DHGate D020's as well!

I would imagine we will see a lot more posters here (including me!) because over 100 people just received their Arizer Solo's through MassDrop. In an attempt to help any newbies, I did some preliminary research and found that there are a few things that you should do when you first get your solo. You Solo Vets out there, please correct me if I'm wrong! =)

1. The Solo seems to be shipped with about 70% battery life. I plugged mine in and let it charge all the way to 7.

2. Break-In: I turned on the solo, heated it up to 7. Let the full 12 minute cycle go through (You WILL smell an electronic-y smell. (dat a wurd?)) I repeated this once more at heat 7, and about halfway through I inserted the stem to help with the fit)

3. When you actually go to vape, heat it up to the desired temperature and then flip the solo upside down and insert the stem. Set the solo down and wait around 1 minute before slowly inhaling (5-8 second draws work for me)

4. Higher temperatures are not always better, I find that I'm generally starting at 3 or 4, and I can puff on it for the whole 12 minute cycle, gradually bumping up to 5 perhaps. I've heard reports of other users where they will then turn the solo back on, bump it up to 6 and continue. I don't know if this is effective though.

----------------------------------

What do you Arizer Solo Veterans think about what I posted? Am I heading in the right direction?

I would believe so.. I've only had the Solo for two days, but I think I'm getting the gist of it, and man-- this taste is great. The only thing that ever matched it was the very very very first hit out of my Mobius Matrix Clear.

I guess I would like to really ask you all, your preferred smoking method and why. I'm not quite sure when the stem is cached. When I remove them after the 12 minute session (hitting intermittently) I see an evenly dispersed brown colored product. Almost like tobacco. I could turn the solo back on I suppose, like others do, and go to lvl 6.. but I don't want to overdo it, and I'm in no way short in supply of good ground up. What do you find is the optimal way of smoking a bowl? How about with two people?

Thanks a lot, and hopefully some people find what I wrote, as well as any responses helpful. Cheers!

You're welcome, helping each other is why we're here. IMO a very good effort. I've got a couple of ideas to throw in:

Batteries of the type used should be shipped (and stored) at 60% charge or so. Simply sitting at full charge degrades them. However, for maximum battery life you should 'overcharge' the very first time (only). Since there are two cells in the battery, the weaker will get worked harder than it's mate each cycle and will fail first most likely. 'Charging to the max' the first time is widely held to help here.

After that first time, best battery life will happen if you stop the charge a bit earlier. A 10% drop (less than one session) will double the battery life. An additional 10% (to about step 6 coming on) will double it again. My advice is to unplug it when the step 7 LED is lit but the charge light flashing when you can 'catch it'. Every time you do that the next charge or two is 'free' in terms of the battery lifespan. This idea has been tossed around a lot.

Inverting it to put the stem in is a good plan to prevent spills. Some of us keep it inverted for the first hit or two (AKA 'Hamster style') until the load fuses into a mass (keeps the bits from falling into the oven. Otherwise there's no real need to preheat the Solo. I suspect most load the stem and put it in and start heating?

We don't do smoke here, NOBODY has a proffered smoking technique......notice the name of the Forum? My personal proffered technique is to run it out on step 4. I gave up on 'stepping up'. IMO the load is finished for you when you say it is. It's going to vary. I end the session when the vapor thins out too much (a moving target that depends on mood and other things). Two sessions per stem is not uncommon for me, but I tend to sip and get distracted you know.........

My advice on Solo is to try changing the technique around and seeing what suits you best. Solo is an unusually flexible vape.......explore that? Or should that be 'celebrate that'?

Thanks for the quick response. I was just curious about how you phrased this. I want to make sure I understand.

I think I know what you mean, but I want to be sure :D

So my Arizer Solo should be coming this Saturday! So excited...
Now i saw this and want to order it...
Anyone have any experience and thoughts on this???
I'm just about to buy it, i just need some reassurance!

In perfect conditions:

Charge to 100% capacity = X battery life (longevity, overall use until the battery fails)

Charge to 90% capacity = (2) X battery (longevity)

In our case the "usual numbers" range between 300 - 500 cycles (500 in this case), so 100% capacity charge gives us around 500 full battery drains, but charging to 90% could give us up to 1,000 drains out of the battery at the cost of having a bit less battery charge.

Is the Q man great or what? Spot on answer in 6 minutes flat?

The only thing I might add is there's some interesting reading on the topic here:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

Pay special attention to the stuff around Table 4. Normally you could go by the final charge voltage, but of course with Solo that's not practical. FWIW the military usually specifies a final voltage just under 4.0 (the 80% point), they exchange a little 'useful charge life' for the vastly extended lifespan (hopefully avoiding field failures and replacements........sorta like we might want?

I asked earlier in the thread whether people preferred this or the D20. I didn't get a large response but what I did get indicated the D20. I wish more people had suggestions.

I'm also torn. I know what kind of adapter to get for the D20. What size would I get for the pinnacle clone?

Massdrop is selling the solo again. That's the best price I've seen.

Great. I'm looking forward to seeing it in action with a solo and hearing how you like it. That will help me decide.

I don't know how you get a discount- I just ordered mine without one. But I think that you'd do best on Ed's discussion board. Ed is on there pretty regularly and responds to special requests.
You can find it by searching for Ed's Tnt

I've never heard of Ed offering a discount. His prices are fair when you think about the labor that's put out into each piece.

if you want a custom piece he will work with you. I have 2 woods stems for my Solo. I have the Granadillo and an 18 mm WonG.
