Essentially any water path is fine for the Solo. The f-bomb/pinnacle water tool are fine but they don't really fit with me. I figure if I'm actually going portable I will just use it dry, if I have the ability to use a piece it's because I'm traveling to somebody's house. At home I like smaller pieces as i find it doesn't require an awful lot of filtration. Even the regular straight tubes will work. It might not milk up a huge tube as fast as some other units but it will do it with little effort on your part. There's so much stuff that the glass world offers that I can't possibly list them... Though like I said personally I enjoy smaller water volumes and not too much diffusion. That leaves a lot open, honeycombs, tree percs, showerheads, turbines, recyclers... confused yet? :)

@Ed's TnT offers handcrafted wooden stems with a stainless steel bowl (more durable) from a variety of wooden species, and @Snappo offers some other exotic blanks for collaboration with Ed. He also can do turquoise inlays on the stems! @Pipes makes stands with plugs that go into the Solo. Maybe hit up @JyARz for a few containers for your goods. @CentiZen makes battery packs (stock and higher capacity packs) too. @VaPeD&CoNfUsEd is an up and coming glassblower, he can make you some cool stems.

I have the Pinnace Pro water tool and it fits with a 14 mm GonG. It works fine the F-Bomb maybe better. I didn't like having my head facing down. I like the D020 bubbler better. The Pinnacle Pro WT is way too much money. You can buy a knock off for cheaper.

I've got a question about the new passthrough model.
I know that passthrough charging&using is bad for the battery and should only be used in direst emergencies...
I've heard that the power adapter for battery bypassing doesn't work anymore with this model, but that can only be a myth or a bad memory...
Because I see a DC9V-heating, DC12V-charging label on the bottom, so it probably still works...
Is that so? I use the Solo at least 50% at home...
...so using a battery bypassing adapter could enhance the battery lifetime to almost 200% before they are going to need replacement.

Wow. At first I said 'that's not one question, it's a bunch of 'em'. Then I noticed there's not real question (where's the "?" mark?). More like a series of statements from memory you're looking to confirm?

I'll take a lash, if I miss it try asking the question again, please?

It's not a true passthrough, in that it needs the battery to work with the supplied charger. "Charging while using" is probably not a bad deal for the battery, but what that leads to (constant recharging to 'full') definitely is. Avoiding the top 10% of that range will double your battery life, avoiding the top 20% will double it again in broad terms. Put another way over time the average charge on many owners Solo batteries will be 90% plus (not so before).

Net result is, I think, shorter battery life with the new model, in some cases alarmingly so. Simple storage of the battery at full charge damages it. That's why they are shipped and stored at about 60% usually.

This exact thing has killed huge numbers of cell phone and laptop batteries, and those two devices are ones you're likely to not leave plugged in when the session is over. In general you charge them and use them on battery power until they need recharge. It's the 'human' side that concerns me. Some won't know better, others won't care, still others' enjoyment will suffer from worry. You buy Solo to use and enjoy after all.

The old version recognized the lower voltage (at more current, and therefore power) in a separate mode, no longer supported. The label on the bottom is a hold over since the label is in the tooling that makes the part (changing it would be surprisingly expensive I bet). However, in a strange twist, if you pull the battery it seems like you can use the old PA to run the new Solo?

The old style PA could basically extend the battery life to infinite (generally about ten years), since a normal battery charge would run on PA for a hundred sessions or more.

Confusing enough? I can probably make it more so.........

Regards to all.

Looks like the VaporBlunt to me?? I could be wrong....

First off, howdy. Welcome to the fun, lots of good folks with sound advice here to help. Just watch out for Ataxian.......

I'm sorry to disagree with you right off, but I don't think VB and Solo compare at all. IMO the feature they most share in common is they both use a 7.4 Volt battery pack. Solo has a clear advantage in taste. Parts of VB simply can't ever be cleaned (bottom of the oven for instance), other parts (like the aluminum stem) need tools to get to.

Solo, OTOH, has an easily removable all glass stem (not metal and plastics like VB) that can be soaked in alcohol or boiled in water or simply washed out with appropriate detergent as many of us do. Others enjoy brewing up a cup of magic coco with theirs when they finally collect enough. An insurmountable problem with VB becomes a feature in Solo........

I have and enjoy both. And under the right conditions will recommend either. However, I own a one VB (really it's VB II, the original was kind of mess I gather) but several Solos. I use Solo many times a day on average, I'm not really sure when the last time I used the VB (with it's 'funny charger').......come to think on it I'm not sure where it and it's case have got to. I hope that charge is in the case.......

If you're new to vapes, by all means avoid VB and go with Solo. Length of threads alone is a useful clue there.

Again, welcome, no charge for advice.

Have you ordered that battery and installed it? Has anyone? Is it easy enough to figure out?

I just received the High capacity 3800 mah on Monday .
It was purchased from Planetvape , but it's the same one that @CentiZen makes .
Wasn't too difficult at all , but the HC battery is a little bit bigger .
And I was only able to re-screw 2 diagonal points , but it will not come apart .
It's given New life to my 3 yr old Solo . 2 hours + of straight usage on levels 4 & 5 .

P.S. I am Not a handyman per se .
The only ' Screwdrivers ' I'm familiar with have Vodka and Orange .
Here's a vid that the zenman posted .

I've swapped packs well over a dozen times, what with testing, repairs/replacement (I'm made several packs from parts) and so on. While some packs don't fit the compartment, a 'replacement pack' should.

Be forewarned, however, that getting the cover snapped back on correctly (no tension) can make positioning of the pack, leads, and connector 'fiddly'.

@OF Is the Hi-cap 3.4K mAh, a bit heftier, a bit larger?

I wouldn't know, having never seen on, but if it was a fit issue the happy customers would have passed that on. The fact that PIU carries it speaks well of it, and gives customers excellent support. The cells used in the battery are a standard size, I doubt the pack is really "heftier". Like a more powerful engine in a car, the hood still has to close and once it does size is not important (where have we heard that before?).

In general packs with protection PCBs on the top end up too tall. Best are ones with the board on the side (like the factory unit).

I don't have the VaporBlunt I do have the Pinnacle Pro. I've owned a Solo for a 1 1/2 years. I am very happy with the other 2 Solos that I bought last spring and summer. I have had nothing but good customer service through Puffitup when buying my units. The Solo is a tank and is very durable. I think customer service is the key when buying a vaporizer.

If you decide to buy a VaporBlunt product go with a company that will return your phone calls and emails. I have had trouble with VaporBlunt's customer service personally. I needed assistance with my Pinnacle Pro vaporizers, I still own 1 have 2 left with problems. I gave up. Replacing vaporizers can be a costly venture. I've moved on, but it's a real sore spot for me as you can tell. I know that's not the question you asked. I guess I needed to get that out. I will shut up about it.

Go with a Solo and buy through Puffitup no worries. Randy will take care of you.

In fact , it specifically says Not to put the back plate back on .
That's why , I couldn't get all 4 screws aligned .

Interesting, and useful information.

Off hand I'm not so sure how keen I am on the idea of leaving the back plate off. For the very reason you cite.

They went to a lot of trouble and expense to make a cover, and one that fits very well and solidly. It's obvious, from your little experiment, that free fit of the chassis in the tube is essential for stress free seating of the screws. If the chassis isn't free to shift (say because the battery shifts a bit in use) strain will happen at the screws/tabs. Heating and cooling could contribute? IMO that's the reason that back plate is there.

The tooling for that cover probably cost about as much as the chassis. Doubling their tooling costs? Be interesting to see if any issues show up, but for myself I think I'll stick to factory configuration for a while longer.

Thanks.

The variants of the d020 that sunshine sells differ primarily in what type of perc they've got and which one people like better is primarily a matter of preference. Percolators add an additional water action, helping to provide more cooling and diffusion, which makes the vapor smoother. Different types of percs provide different amounts of diffusion and resistance. Connection types can vary too, male or female, 14 or 18mm. I use the same setup as @CarolKing.
