Since then I've lost my straight and tried the bent stem for the first time and it is very loose and wobbely and falls out if I turn it upside down.
Kevin at arizer says they are hand made are all different, but that it should slide right out. what do yall think?
I think Kevin is right.
And so does the maker. He thinks the stem being loose is not an issue, it was never intended to stay in when inverted. Sometimes they do when new, but that's not a guaranteed feature.
I also think it's a very common theme around here (perhaps second only to 'what does the model number on the bottom of my Solo mean?). If you enter 'loose stem' in the search function it returns 200 'hits'. Once every six pages? As Brother Pipes suggests, many guys use a special o-ring to help hold the stem, but that will really only keep gravity from rotating the bent stem (at best), it's not going to hold on tight enough to keep the stem from falling out unless you camp down on it tight enough to seriously risk breaking the tabs on the base. If you decide to go that way, I suggest you read up on it not just bung one in based on web wisdom. It's only a partial 'fix' and has risks associated.
Bottom line is your unit and experience is quite normal I think. Nothing to worry about, enjoy your Solo.
