Hey guys,

I was wondering how you clean this the best. I'm using it for hash which maybe isn't the best idea but well, that's what I'm using.

I believe they are the same.

Stu is wise. Again. You want industry standard number 113 rings in high temperature silicone rubber.

Not just another pretty face, you know.......

ISO and salt is probably the best for a first timer? The bowl is pretty easy to wipe out (like with a corner of a paper towel) after the ISO softens it up. The stuff in the stem part you can't reach falls to vigorous shaking about half full of ISO with maybe 1/3 of that being table salt (high purity ISO only so the salt doesn't dissolve). I cover then ends with my thumbs and shake it over the sink. The ISO softens it up and the salt scrubs it off.

So, I have been an avid Arizer Solo user for 3 years, it has been my only vaporizer and my only method of partaking.

My unit (an m106) has had its battery replaced (by me) about two months ago when the original finally failed. Now something very strange has started to happen, first occasionally, and now all the time. When I turn on the unit (regardless of battery status) it will flash the battery level, and then instead of go to "0" it will indicate that it is at a higher temperature. When i turn it up, the single light moves from "0" not the number displayed, and the heater won't activate at all until i set it above whatever it thinks the temperature is. I'm not sure what effect this has on the actual temperature of the unit. If it thinks it is at 6 or 7 right away, sometimes I can't get vapor at all. I've tried holding both buttons, when charging and when unplugged. I've dissembled it and put it back together twice. Aside from cosmetic chipping of the plastic on the base I can't tell any damage, although I cant find a temperature sensor anyways.

I've contacted Arizer, as well as Vapornation, where I bought it originally. Vapornation has no clue, and Arizer offered to let me pay to send it to them, so that they could try a new battery and charger only. I have just replaced the battery and have a second charger to test, so obviously that isn't helpful.

I don't have the cash for another one and if I did I have serious qualms about buying a second one when the first one went to pieces pretty shortly after the warranty ended ande it's been one thing after another since. And to think, for 2.5 years I've been an extreme advocate of the Arizer solo, I use mine twice a day minimum, and the feeling of not knowing if it's going to work properly from one session to the next is causing me an unreasonable umount of stress.

So, comments? Suggestions? Any information at all? Thanks

Golantravize, it sounds like you got a lot of use out of your Solo. Sorry for your troubles. First off you need an inexpensive vaporizer for a back up. But it sounds like you need to send your unit into Arizer and have them fix it.

Maybe OF, Pipes or Dr Soxhlet could chime in. Ataxian could be out there......

What batteries, specifically, did you replace the originals with? Do you have a PA?

Does it always come up with the same 'wrong temperature'? It would seem normal except that part? Does it 'recall last setting' correctly (right button)?

TIA

About the temp on the newer models. I have been using my new june2014 in rotation with my may2013 and I see a difference. My june2014 is giving me more/harsher vapor on the same level. Here is my simple hypothesis: there is a higher ratio of hot air to room temperature air. More air is comming from the bigger holes in the crucible than from "outside" the solo. The one abv comparaison I did showed me darker abv from my 2014 solo too at same temp levels.

Very satisfied. Quick service from pv and solo delivers

I second OF's suggestions. if you have access to a PA i would be immensely curious to find out if my solo revival technique can fix your and CHIDOYs problems.

I'm finding it very curious a lot of people are bringing up these strange issues with their M106/M107s at this point in time!

I'm wondering if it's because the batteries are giving up?

Contrary to Urban Legend, these guys don't really have an on board calendar (to know when the warranty has run out). That's auto technology, and it's hooked to the odometer.

And of course there's also the sensor suite in photo copy machines that can sense you're being in a rush (flushed skin, sweat.......sometimes called 'an anxiety sensor') and detects good clothes to trigger a paper jam. That too is different I think?

I'm very glad you're happy with your Solo(s), but there's absolutely no way that the battery has anything to do with temperature.
Agreed - but I own two solos and they differ by about 2 temperature levels - I've used the same bud in both - it seems optimal to my tastes at 2-3 on one but works best at 4-5 on the other.
Like OF, I don't think it's anything to do with the battery. More likely something to do with the thermistor or temperature cycle calibration - they're both older models from before you could heat and charge, about a year apart in purchase date. The more recent one is definitely hotter (for a given temperature setting) than the other.
YMMV.

Very interesting. You could very well have a wonky one. Nothing fatal, but interesting.

I've measured six or seven now (the youngest being a month or two old) and basically find no difference. I've described this before, using a thermocouple packed in cotton against the cup with no air flow. I think this is the best measure of what the Solo thinks it's doing?

Airflow changes how that heat is distributed around, of course. TCs in the center of the load read lower until you hit it. There can be a pretty impressive increase in the center high up.

I think the stem/seal has something to do with perception as well. With exactly the same load (near as I can make it) both my PVHES stems seem 'hotter' as long as I sip on them. But that can't be........

That's a big fer sure on that one. In the end it's just a tool, they will vary. IMO it's a very good, well thought out, reliable tool. And reasonably priced in an increasingly competitive market.

Recommended.

Thanks for the thoughts.

my solo turns on and shows its charged, but wont heat up... the heat light doesn't come on????

any suggestions? loose wire maybe?

I bought it new off ebay less than 2 years ago so it should be covered under warranty but I don't really want to send it to Canada. I'd rather fix it myself if anyone thinks they know what might be wrong?

thanks!

No one likes favorite toys to break. One way to look at it, though, is for 36 months (3 yrs) your $240.00 suggested retail price unit, cost you $6.67 a month "rental". Not bad. Use your real numbers, what is the amortized price of your unit per month? Now compare that with the cost of, say, beer consumed per month. Or whatever. Still is pretty good, no?

Not to mention the cost of herb. You save a lot of $ using the Solo. It's a very economical vaporizer. The cost of combusting herb that whole time would have been through the roof. Plus the wear and tear on your lungs.

I looked through the classified on FC and I didn't see any Solos. You don't see them very often, but thought I would look.

Excellent point. I look at it in terms of the value of bud processed in that time. Yes, replacement tires are a cost of owning a car, but given the cost of insurance and fuel replacing the worn tires every several years is a pretty trivial cost over all. Still 'hurts' when you have to shell out $500 for new rubber of course.

Not to mention the cost of herb. You save a lot of $ using the Solo.

Also very true.

Overall, Solo is a great investment it seems. Maybe we need 'a line' on the NYSE? Maybe trade in Solo Futures? We already have Massdrop 'selling short' from time to time it seems........

Fun stuff. It's gonna give you grief sooner or later, have a plan (like a backup vape on hand)?

Beautiful setup! I may have misspoke: I have no medical legitimacy to use: I'm a "Recreate-or". So, for me, the Solo helps me have fun, and in this I view the Solo as a "toy". But for those needing to medicate for pains and afflictions, I don't mean to minimize the value of the Solo as an applicator of medication.

Still, if Solos were unavailable to buy, and only rent, how much would you pay per month to rent a Solo? If it were $15/mo, I'd probably sign up.

Sounds strangely similar to other problems in the last 3 or 5 pages.

Being a vaporist is awesome.

It seems about halfway through my 40 second long draws, the vapor becomes much more rich and the terpenes really come out to play.

So right now my technique is usually start at a 4, fill up stem, set SOLO on GonG in bubbler until it reaches temp, wait another minute (can start smelling the herb cook) and then take a really long draw (shoot for 35-45 seconds), wait about 1 1/2-2 minutes, hit it again, raise temp to 5, do that twice, go to 6, can usually get the fifth draw, although it turns off mid draw a lot, which is okay with me.

I'm thinking of trying something new and let the Solo heat up to a 7, on it's own, then connect to the GonG once temp is stable, for only heat passing thru, no "marination". It might be hard on the Solo though, to try and maintain that temp when inhaling, since the glass and herb would be cool. I think I will try it out after work.

I have enough herb to last me a good two months or so, I think I will vape through that and put the herb money aside to get myself a log vape, as I think it would serve my needs a little better, but I still absolutely love the Solo and would recommend it to anyone looking for a vape. It's very versatile and works well for pretty much any application, is put together solid, and a nice addition. Money well spent. It's actually pretty astounding at times!

With all due respect, i dont see you as a victim of arizer you used it for 2 1/2 years twice a day and it crapped out. You took it apart twice yourself with a battery that might not be the right configuration. The bumper to bumper warranty on my car ended and i had a problem shortly after . Thats life. What does arizer owe you in your mind

Also guys I got my hands on a M102 solo today. i noticed when you turn it on, the "1" light blinks instead of the idle one, and if you bring the heat level to 5 or higher you can notice that another light will follow 3 behind, so if i'm selecting 5 then 1 is also lit up, 6 and 2 get lit up together etc.

Sounds like the weird problem someone was talking about where it won't heat unless you set it higher than it wants. I'll take it apart to see if the PA fix is a thing when I have a chance.

also it seems to work well but the M102 makes a crazy high pitch whine if you put it close to your ear! i won't be doing that any more. aside from all that it seems to work fine though!

so yeah, more updates to come on solo repair.

but have a SOLO FAMILY PIC while you wait!

I love my Solos and depend on them far more than any other vape i own.

Twice I had to send my only solo back for repair. The second time was a brutal wait! I even smoked a joint for the first time in years, and hated it. After that I got a backup and can't bear the thought of not having a backup.
