Arizer Solo

Should I keep using my Solo until the battery drains to 0 just this first time? As a way to sort of calibrate it I guess like I did by charging it 8 hours before using it.

No, I think it's wise as a matter of routine. Recharges wear the battery out, as long as they aren't deep discharges, discharging further is 'money in the bank'.

Sometimes, if I know I'll be away from the charger for a while, I'll recharge with a light or two still showing, but normally I try to run each charge down 'off the chart'.

The LED levels are preset on Solo, they don't 'calibrate' like some products do. They're about .1 Volt apart.

Over drawing is not the issue, both test are done with an empty tube and pulled out slightly (mm or so) and a relaxing slow draw is taken. The same results may be gathered from a loaded tube with similar draw strength. There should be no reason the 2014 drops from 7 to 4, because it does this drop from 6-3, 5-2 so on. I've used an arizer for 2 years im very familiar with these units. Its only happened in the recent months that the 2014 has done this, it wasnt like it dropped 3 levels out of the box. The 2014 was purchased mid February-early march for a friend who moved back to Germany so i have his Arizer now. I only recently discovered 2014 models can perform while charging (friend didnt know about feature and used as a charge and use model) and is why i asked if it could be transferred. Regardless of the improved airflow, the 2014 shouldnt drop level after level while the 2012 is amazing with heating.

I've noticed my new Solo drops 2 levels when inhaling .
Credited that to better temp. sensors in the newer Solos , reflecting the
true accurate temp .when cooler air is drawn thru the bigger 4 holes .

I suck out the oven after every time I pull the stem out. If you've got your hand around the part where the lights are, you can feel air rushing in and around the light panel when inhaling directly on the Solo oven.

I don't Suck , I Blow ...
from the bottom holes , I always see some abv come flying out .
Works better with the cap off .

Why? Because we like you........

You remember, right?

Deep discharges are almost as bad as keeping it fully charged all the time! I'm fairly certain this type of battery chemistry doesn't have a "memory" like others which would benefit from that (from time to time).

Once again, the Q man is fast on the trigger and solidly on the mark.

Storage (time spent) at full charge is bad, deep discharges are bad. Stay away from the extremes (use the center part of the range) and battery life goes WAY up. The difference between a few hundred charges and a few thousand?

My take is once you're discharging there's no battery life penalty for discharging further (within reason). It won't last forever, of course, but treat the battery gently and it could serve you well for a long time.

Hi guys.
Has anyone noticed a difference in heater sizes between the old and new models?
I have the bent stem from my new model (already broke the straight 1 :( ) which fits snug as a bug in a rug in my M1T however..... the same tube is about .5mm to big for my older M107 which leads me to believethe newer model heater must be slightly larger than the older models???
Anyone agree or am I just to solo'ed :D again

Fit difference is likely due to inconsistencies in stem production. They are each made by hand, I believe.

Beats me. I have two older version and one 'brand new' one. The only differences I could find were different mounting, different electrical drive, and very slightly higher resistance (lower current) but am not sure it's not just normal distribution. Try as I could, I couldn't find a difference in size. The glass stems I have here (several stock and PVHES offerings all seem to be in the .570 to .574 range, and slightly out of round.

I know exactly what u mean about the variants in the stems. I have a few stock stems and all fit well in both units except the new bent 1, and I suspect the broken straight stem would have been the same.
I have even dismantled the M107 , taken out the factory o-ring just to make sure and the stems wont even fit into the heatr without the ring???
The stems that came with my M1T were considerably different than any other stock stems ive ever seen. Larger bowl by about 1/3 and it it extending another 1cm before tapering off into the mouthpeice.

Conundrum :bang:

Interesting. Did you get it from PIU, PV or some other 'top tier' Dealer? It sounds like the broken one and the one you've still got are out of spec. I'd expect Randy (PIU) or PV to quickly exchange them. I've personally bought Solos and gear from both and had excellent service with both when the rare problem cropped up. Randy replace my first (wouldn't turn on out of the box) immediately and provided a return label for the unit and supply (I kept the original stems). I got the replacement before I got the return label, at one point I had both units. PV quickly replaced a bent PVHES that had the etched logo too high up. I found it annoying to hit with my lips. Even though the stock showed backorder, they found one somewhere and had it (and another bag of chips) in the mail to me the day I contacted them.

Such support in the unlikely event of problems is gold, IMO. I'm happy to recommend either of them and can easily justify what is IMO a modestly higher price over 'the best on the web' for what I see as insurance.

Good luck with it, but stems that don't fit don't fit......and are pretty useless unless you want to send them to Ataxian for breaking?

I received my straight turbo stems from PV yesterday. They included 2 silicone caps for the stems. I had said I was an FC member they mentioned they would include an extra gift in lieu of a discount. Also as always screens are included. Two travel tubes are included in the price too.

Still using the Eds stems, have not forgotten about those.

Last night used a bit of cotton to wrap up some AK47 wax with some herb and vaped it in my Solo. I had good results and lasted for 2 - 10 min sessions. I haven't slept that well in weeks. I bought the Dabbler and needed some wax, so bought some for the first time yesterday at a dispensary.

It seems easier using the wax this way. I was surprised there was no mess, everything got used up.

 Poor Ataxian. I thought I was bad for breaking glass. Ive read this dude takes glass breaking to a whole new level
I bought my latest unit from @VapeFiend who is about as top tier as u can get over here in the uk. However ive bothered the poor guy so much (2 replaced units so far with all shipping paid etc) that i couldnt bring myself to hassle him over 1 stem.
Icouldnt agree with u more OF about buying from a reputable company. That peice of mind truly is priceless and I would rather give an honest man £150 than £100 to a company who runs after they have your cash.
Thanks for helping me this though. It really does seem the solo are quirkey little buggers with each unit having its own little personality

Have you tried just sandwiching your oil between herb. I find this works really well Iin the solo and no need for the cotton then :)
Hope this helps

Ain't that the simple truth? I hear he gets fan mail for other glass breakers......could just be an exaggeration and all but I tend to think he's on the short list. For a guy that loves all those strange glass tools he invents it probably comes with the territory to some extent.

No way around it, though, some of the newbie glass breakers no doubt wish to someday be as great as Ataxian the Great.

Hey, a guy's gotta dream you know.

Solo has landed. On charger. Will report tonight.

Thanks for the good word. If we never hear from you again, at least we'll know why.......

Ed's pieces truly are works of art!

The stem I have with the turquoise inlay is my favorite too, but I do love them all. :)

If I may ask , how do you find battery usage with eds stems. Im sure i read they impact slighty higher on the battery due to a more conducive heat?
I only ask as I was planning on getting an eds stem to take with me on hikes where theres not a spark of electricity for miles as a wood stem would be far more desirable when falling down hidden potholes :)

I have not seen my battery drain excessively while using Ed's stems. I may not be the right person to ask, though, because I haven't used the stock glass stems since I got my stems from Ed.

I like Ed's stems, but I find that they get my Solo hot, and I get hot vapor, I don't like hot vapor. With the 2014 models, the original glass stem is the best. With my 2013, the PVHES STEM worked better, but not so with the 2014 version.

I couldn't agree more. Full points on all counts.

I like my new Ed's stem but it does run the battery down faster and make the top part of the vape hotter (I assume by conduction as well). If not careful the stem just outside the cap can burn my tender fingers rather than just 'feeling hot' as the glass does. Since I'm a sipper by nature, the extra heat (which I don't quite understand yet) isn't a big deal, although dropping down to 3 to try to counter it clobbers production.

My Ed's stem is also the largest in diameter of all my stems by a fair bit. I had to force it into my oldest Solo (loosest one) after filing off a couple burrs as it was. The burrs bothered me as they're sure to scar the seal but since others don't seem to have this problem I'll assume mine is a fluke. Neat thing all told, 5,400 year old wood is not an everyday thing for sure.

I fully agree with the new/old stock/PVHES thing as well. I run notched o-rings in my older ones which adds some more restriction, the PVHES seems to balance that out again. My 'using stems' for them are therefore PVHESs. The new one doesn't have a ring yet, but for now the PVHES is 'too open' for my taste.

FWIW I think the restriction on Ed's stem is about on par with the stock ones even though it has notches? What do the other owners think of that opinion? TIA

The PVHES stems have a very easy draw, possibly too much so for some with the newer models (2014 models). At first I just used the stock stems with my new 2014 version, the ease of draw is so much improved. Lately I have been using the PVHES bent shorty and have gotten used to the really ease of the draw and I like it a lot. I only use my PVHES stems with the older model Solo, I don't use the stock stems. But it comes down to personal preference.

The Eds stems do get a bit hot, you just need to be careful. I haven't paid much attention to the battery level going down any quicker. If it has it hasn't been so much that it's that noticeable for me. The durability, the look and the taste is of more importance.
