Arizer Solo

I have three questions, fellow vape users.

1. My Solo's glass stems are now loose. They went from hard to insert to so loose that I have to swirl it around to vape everything in the bowl.

2. I am very interested in the PVHEGonG High Efficiency GonG. Do I need to purchase another Arizer stem to connect it? Or do I have to purchase the f-bomb Jet Diffused Micro Bubbler Tube too? Do you use water or ice in it?

3. How do the above work or improve on my vaping? I looked elsewhere on the internet, but none of them explained how this can/could improve my experience and alter it.

Also, even though I've had my Solo for a while, I've never been sure how much of my "flowers" is enough, too much, or too little. I've seen videos, but they weren't helpful.

Hopefully, I'll have some knowledge to offer you guys or another noob.

1. You need a high temperature silicone o-ring (size 113) placed under the cap if you want to keep the stems from swiveling. If the cap doesn't screw all the way down (due to two different cap sizes on the Solo) place it on some tape and use sandpaper to thin it out.

2. The PVHES GonG's are for attaching to water pieces, if you don't have/need a water piece you can order the PVHES stems which do the same thing but look like a regular stem and don't have the ground glass part for water pieces. My PVHES GonG came with the o-ring I mentioned above. The F-Bomb uses water and would sit on top of the Solo, attaching to the GonG section. Make sure to order the same size GonG as the joint size on the F-Bomb. Not sure if you can add ice to it, I don't see why not

3. Water and ice will moisturize and cool your vapor making it less harsh. You can take massive rips that won't make you cough nearly as much as hitting it dry. I'm actually a fan of using very warm water instead of water and ice, seems that the steam that comes off from the warm water moisturizes the vapor much better than the ice does. Something to experiment with...

4. As for how much flower you need... well shit, I can't tell you that. Load a stem up with X amount of flower, vape it, see if that's enough, too much, or too little. Go from there. Some people in the thread only need a few hits, I could go back-to-back-to-back stems if I felt like it. Depends on what you want. Sometimes I'll load half a stem or less, sometimes I measure out a few stems' worth and go to town on it.

I think he's asking what that X amount of flower would equal to.
I think its best to pack the stem tight 3/4s of the way full.

Just attempted this myself and confirm your finding. Finished my last 'cordless' session (no PA used; starting battery charge level at 1) and then put my 'new' (charge & heat) Solo on the stock PA (8.68v DC) to charge. Wasn't able to fully charge (green charging LED solid) either. In fact, was only able to charge up to solid yellow LED at level 6 (charge level never got high enough to get level 7 battery charge LED to even flicker; took 1 hour 23 minutes to attain this solid yellow at level 6). I left the Solo charging for another 40 minutes (with no further change in LED level indications) on the stock PA before disconnecting and replacing with the stock 12v DC charger (now at the 2 hour 3 minute mark). Took only 2 minutes 19 seconds more for solid yellow at level 7 (with a flashing green charging LED) before I pulled it off the charger, plugged in the PA, inserted a loaded gong - it's starting to heat.......

Excellent point @OF! Certainly seems like this could provide a 'safety net' against overcharging. And we should get a boatload of extra charge cycles if we pull Solos at level 6 charge level eh?

Regards,
NN
I have a newer Solo with the"new" features. With mine it charges up to solid green with the PA (8.5V 5.65A). The actual voltage was measured at 8.7V, however.

Made this quick vid of my new solo set up.

I was also wondering how old is the longest working solo unit? I have had mine for 1 year and 2 months and its still going strong, using the pa adapter so I hardly use the battery anymore. How long do these things last?

<--- M102, 3.5yrs old, daily multi use (re-charge done at end of every evening), VapePower battery replacement a yr ago to bring it back to full life even if orig batt still worked fine for 3 back to back sessions ;)

May 2011 was the beginning of this thread. A 3 1/2 year old Solo for smokem, that would be about one of the oldest. Old timers to this thread would know. Others would know more than myself.

The first ones out they had lots of troubles with the ceramic bowl chipping. FCers were sending their units back in droves.

I have an M107 , 3 yrs old .
It's def. my daily driver , and desk top too for water vaping .
Recharged overnight , and I too will be needing to exchange battery . It's down to 90 minutes portable power ,straight usage.
The heater still working fine , but maybe not as optimum as my
new one .

Anyone know what is up with planetvape and the PVHES? They haven't been in stock for over a month or longer and no longer even say they are going to be back in stock.

Are these not coming back?

All is not lost. (yet) You can cut the top portion off and heat treat the end for a smooth lip.
No trouble with drip tips here. Think it depends on the fit as they vary slightly from tip to tip. As does the glass rim.

I have a bad enough time with the dry path as is. I don't think my throat can take an even shorter stem, lol!

That said, I was thinking of using this stuff (or maybe just super glue?):

I don't think super glue with cut it in this case. Like car windshields, it's a special formulation glue that generally is forced into the crack under pressure.
Cutting is likely the only sure way to prevent the crack from continuing. You can always use a longer drip tip or extend the length other ways. (Chillum..?)

Has anyone tried using a powerbank to charge the arizer solo?
I use one of these:
battpak.jpg

They are expensive, but I got mine at a garage sale new for only $5.
Again, seems like it will heat without charging if the Solo battery is at full charge and heat mode is started right after it initializes. It goes into charge mode if you just plug it in.
This is with a newer Solo. I replaced my original Solo about 2 months ago.

Here's a link for the battery pack: http://www.amazon.com/Lenmar-DVDU923-Universal-Battery-Portable/dp/B0011MZORU

Actually at $37.99. not a bad price.

guys where can i get one of them PVHES stems in the UK?
which one should i get and is it much better than the STOCK STEM that comes with the latest arizer solos on ebay? ty!

i tend to burn a hole in a plastic bottle and put the stem thru the tiny hole and fill it with water like a bong (thought of it while stoned) works pretty well but i dropped my stock stem and the top part is cracked off so looking for a new stem for time being!

I sent this email to Arizer yesterday:
Kevin,
Can you confirm that the Power Adaptor (PA) will enable the battery to be bypassed with the newer Solo units. I want to run the Solo without the charge and run feature like the stock power suppy does.

This was the reply:

Thank you for your email.

There is no battery bypass in the Solo. The Solo Power Adapter will trickle charge the battery. If your Solo can be used while charging, the unit will use up to 9V for heating, and any remaining unused voltage trickle charges the battery.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

I'm not sure what email that is, IMO this fits, more or less, with what we see. In fact, my only quibbles are I would not call it a "trickle charge" it seems very normal to me as far as the battery goes so some more testing seems indicated there. I measured higher charge rates than I consider normal, basically what the charger gives wen on the PA. The rate is a little lower I think, but nothing like a trickle (typically a few percent of normal).

And "any remaining unused voltage trickle charges the battery" is different from the way electrons worked when I went to school. It would have been current (flow) not voltage (pressure) that was excess.

Basically, though, this confirms what I measured the other day. "PA mode" is virtual, the battery is an active part of the game. The supplied charger can only provide part of the power needed. The rest comes from the battery. It charges 'while the heater is off' and then discharges again when the heater demand that can't be supported by the wall wort comes along. Even though now it never shuts off it seems, only goes back to a 'half power standby' rather than 'free fall coast' mode.

IMO a major change is you can now charge with less than 10.1 Volts (no 'light shows' from lame chargers?) where before the PA support software locked you out. The old Solo never tried to charge from a PA source. Not so now.

Maybe.

Pretty much the same response I got. Never posted because of the way he describes left over voltage and such did not make a lot of sense so decided not to add to the confusion. As OF points out, charging has to do with current flow, not voltage.
Yes, quite different from his response back when new models were first starting to come out.
Seems we have to work it out ourselves and very interested in @OF's measurements and experiments.
Always fun to improve on an already good toy.
