Hey there, got my anvil a few days ago and I have a few questions. First, I don't know if it's something about being near sea level but I can't seem to RTL, if I respect the 2 clicks I get a lighly colored AVB, I have to go 20 seconds past the second click in order to get some dark colored AVB. Is there something wrong with my device? I have a klip "slicer" and I use it with the medium grind disc, I also cover the little hole on the airflow adjuster and I hit it through a water pipe, I use a blazer PB-207 or a small eagle torch. I'm using the hlaf bowl as I easily combust with the full and XL bowls.

P.d. If I remove the glass liner from a vhb carbon mini will it be able to fit the anvil? Will an I.H. help me to RTL?

Thanks in advance for all the help

You need a bigger torch. Those little eagle torches aren’t powerful enough to RTL. I don’t think the PB-207 is powerful enough either. Blazer Firefox and the Ronxs are the go-to torches for most Anvil users.

How long does it take you to get to a 1st click?

How long is your inner blur flame?

The torches you have may be slightly under powered but should be ok if you go to the 2nd click. The torches you have would work well for the XL chamber as it has more conduction and the easiest to combust in. The half chamber runs a bit hotter than the full chamber. The full chamber is the hardest to combust in it seems to need a bit more flame power

For the XL chamber I would recommend to set your torch so the inner blue flame is around 1/4" long then heat the thermal battery with the tip of the inner blue flame. This should give you around a 40-45sec 1st click and a nice big tasty hit.

Let me know how the XL works for you, those lower power torches are great for the XL chamber

Edit*
You may want to try covering the bog holes on the airflow adjustment, that will help with a darker roast also

The one in the metal ashtray is the half bowl test, on the top side I heated it 10 seconds past the second click and in the down side I respected the second click.

My anvil's first click goes at arou0and 46 secods and the second one at 50. The PB207 has a flame length on an inch with the inner blue flame at 3/4". I use the outer flame to heat the anvil, I did some tests and I get a darker roast, I'll put the flame closer.

Will I damage my device if I keep ovdrheating it? I really like my botanicals roasted, almost charred...

I have very good experience with the following torch, as it has a very wide flame range, starts with very small flame to very big. I don't use my firefox or any other torch anymore. I prefer less flame than firefox's lower setting.

How is the flame quality once fuel starts running a bit low? The Ronxs I use start te lose their strength at what feels like half way through their juice.

I also have a pen style which I posted before and it doesn't have that issue as bad (maybe because of the smaller fuel tank?).

And do you know if it can handle the prolonged heating it takes to fire up the Anvil? That was one pf the reasons I went with my specific pen torch. But it's not that great that it's a replacement pf my Ronxs at home. And yours is better looking than mine as well

I use it for over a month and it can handle prolonged heating times, like 45 secs. It is available in many countries, as JOBON turbo torch, but as you wrote, when it is near empty it can lose some flame power. This doesn't bother me, as it's easy to adjust flame power with the holding hand. It has a flame lock and can be found really cheap in some markets.

My 503 pencil torch does the same the flame size diminishes slowly from like half a tank onward - I keep thinking it'd be ideal if you could just top it up as soon as you notice it starting to weaken (I like it on full thus far) but that's not recommended practice & these lighters should be fully empty & purged before refilling, right?

I have this torch. Not realy the best. Consume a lot of gaz and have a too wide flame. The RONXS is definitivly better. The only good think on this torch is the security lock that lake on the RONXS.

It is not a recommended practice but if I use a cheap torch I don't care about it's longevity.

Absolutely not too wide flame especially compared to Blazer's Firefox which is the recommended torch here.

where exactly are you heating? 10 seconds past the click is absolutely crazy. My herbs would be reduced to fiery dust if I went even 2 seconds past the click, and I use a tiny little Vapman torch.

The flame of RONXS is twice thiner for the same lenght, hotter and consume 2-3x time less gaz. I used both during few months every days and tasted them on dynavap, anvil and on the vapoThor.
But I let the people waste their money with this torch if they want ...

Dremel Versatip has great flame control, powerful flame, yet very precise. Also it takes longer for the flame to weaken before the gas runs out, it's better than the Proxxon torch in that respect. OTOH, you need good hand dexterity to light it, and sometimes the ignition falters on mine. No biggy, but there you are. Loving it though for its power.

Use the RONX and another creme burlee torch around the house, but when out take the Honest pen torch with dual flame single point focus. This is the torch John @Vestratto mentioned he used when testing variants on oven designs.

Holds good amount of butane, full range of flame adjustments, stays cool in use and a good all around torch if your budget is tight. Have even been able to dial it down to use on my DV's if needed. Will buy again when it stops working.

Overheating past the click is not the best for the bi metallic discs. As you said i think you need to move the flame closer and heat the thermal battery with the very tip of the inner blue flame, this should get your 45 sec click time down to around 30 sec. If you can get the Full chamber to click in 25 sec or so then you should get a very dark AVB maybe even combust.

For a Ride the Line experience i would recommend:

Half chamber - 1/2" inner blue flame and heat thermal battery until 1st click
Full chamber - 1/2" inner blue flame and heat the battery until the 2nd click
XL chamber - 3/8" inner blue flame and heat thermal battery until 1st click

or you can test for click times using an empty herb chamber so you dont waste herb, i would aim for these 1st click time

Full chamber - 25-30 sec
XL chamber - 40-45 sec

Note* the faster you make it click the darker the AVB ( 40 sec will be darker than the 45 sec click )

Hope this helps

I thought of getting another torch but I went with the I.H. route. I searched for the options given by you like the RONXS but I don't want to carry around a kitchen blowtorch, I'll look into the honest pen torch as I would like to have a pen torch for outside use but I can only get off brands. How portable is the firefox?

I'll assume you've checked Amazon for your country and came up empty. The air vents on the honest are important for sustain use. The cheaper knock offs lack these and would overheat rapidly. Here's the size: 124 mm x 22 mm x 16 mm. Easily pocketable.

Hears a link for FastTech that will ship the Honest lighter globally for free for orders over $22.00. HONEST BC450-1 Zinc Alloy Windproof Lighter.

So... I actually feel kinda dumb. Yesterday I was looking at my torch and the flame adjuster was set to minimum. I remembered that it didn't change the flame length so I just left it at that. Now at max flame strength, with a full bowl and heating the thermal battery I get a nice dark brown AVB at 1st click. The first time I tested this config I went past the first click hoping to hear a second one but after 2 seconds I stopped as I felt there was not going to be a second click and to no surprise I combusted.

Thanks for all the help guys! Now that I'm able to use my anvil correctly it's time to start looking at customization :) I've already ordered an XL slim anvil stash from futo, his stems do anything to cool the vapor of the anvil? I got an USA that I plan on using with a revolve stem, has anyone here made that pairing an willing to share the experience? Will it help me to RTL natively?
