After inspecting the two AVLP2s and generally hanging out with them over the evening (above) I, by the next morning, had decide I
could in-fact live with the minor cork flaws. Don't think it will bother me too much and maybe an aftermarket solution may present itself. Would I have noticed it if I wasn't expecting a problem? Probably. Would it have been the first thing I noticed? Maybe not.
It should be noted however I do think the unit
@Toivarita showed is much worse than mine so no judgements on anybody who is less than pleased about theirs. (Also
@Toivarita IMO the issue with the door you described is not right, it should not be the case and I gently urge you to get a replacement unit)
Last night we fired one up and so this is my initial review.
AVLP 2 Review
Feels good in the hand. I like the grey. The door feels very solid, feels upgraded from my v1.
The cleaning upgrade looks really good. "The bit" looks much more open and is accessible. I haven't yet gotten it sticky enough to give it a good clean but it looks good to me.
The new larger magnetic metal filter/screen is good. It is easily moved/removed but it appears to stay in place when left alone to do it's job. Pretty certain this is big upgrade from the finicky and delicate rubber seal with teeny tiny screen.
The screen, well it's got more colours sure but for me it is not an upgrade. Preferred the old simpler one and the original orientation. The colours and new layout may well be better for some so it could easily be an upgrade for them but for me not really. In the end this is unimportant to me so whatever.
In use, well it's an upgrade. The airflow instantly feels more open. Oooh just gonna turn it on and do a semi-filled cap....
Well, yes it is more open and it still produces those tasty clouds!
And hey! The cork feels good in the hand! It's nice to touch, nicer than the cloth for sure but also nice in it's own right. My partner commented on this independently.
(ok gotta take a short break...)
(

and we're back...) ("A vape with a cup, that's a stupid idea!")
Another change we notice now is the mouthpiece. It's different, smaller, straighter, it has a silicon cap.
So being used to using the v1 how many of ya have put the vape to your lips and unexpectedly kissed silicone? haha
I wasn't sure about the smaller size and new shape— I thought I was just gonna prefer the v1 mouthpiece. In use the new is not so bad, different but not so bad. At this stage I think I prefer the larger one, if this new one was just a little longer I don't think I'd mind. My partner however said to their surprise they liked it and felt it stayed cooler during the session. The cap/cover is nice for the pocket but it looks mighty losable. Also I kinda think it's only there so press shots don't reveal the kind of weirdly small looking mouthpiece.
There ye go. First impressions.
The cork. Well. Hmmm. I think there is a couple of problems. Firstly maybe the pieces need to better formed to fit the shape and secondly where the gold specks intersect with an edge there is an issue. When I removed the "pull here" tape it took a gold speck with it - I had to laugh.
I'm actually happy
enough with it right now and it can be a backup to the v1 or the v1 can be it's backup so it works for me (at that price anyway). Hopefully the cork doesn't fall apart or something. I'd still be interested in aftermarket mods and natural cork or funky colours might be deadly.
EDIT: I forgot to say I think that the cleaning brush is a bit scant in the head department, I'm sure the demo video I saw had a nice bushy one!
