Very cool first concert, and can't believe you still have the ticket! That is yours, right?

Naw. Wish it was. Googled the image just to add a bit of context. That ticket stub was from the concert I saw him at though.

I wish I would have saved all my concert ticket stubs. The Elvis one would have been a prized one as well as the ticket stub from the last Hendrix concert here in LA at the Forum before he died.

It was. It was the Band of Gypsies tour.

Back then, I was going to concerts just about every weekend, from Traffic to SuperTramp to ELO to Jethro Tull, to the Who, to YES, to David Bowie to The Doors, The Airplane, The Band, to Neil Young to Zappa, Joni Mitchell, Floyd, Allman Bros, etc etc. I also missed some great bands that I would have LOVED to have seen such as Zeppelin, Joplan, Humble Pie, Queen, Cream, and more.

Sooooooo much great music being created back then...........

I don't remember GnR being in the lineup but it was a while ago.. I was just there to see Metallica, Ac/Dc, Van Halen and the Scorpions personally. Saddly, some ass hat threw a camera and hit Klaus Meine in the throat and they pulled out early 1/2 way through their set.

I would have loved to have seen GnR live though. I think I burned through 3 Appetite for Destruction records, Still have one here somewhere.

The best time of my life in high school was having season's passes to a music festival my buddy put on called "Rock Heaven" on the olympic peninsula in the late 80's and early 90's. 20 local bands in a weekend with 2 outdoor stages. Just awesome fun!

No, This was off E. Quilcene Rd, in Quilcene, overlooking the sub base. It only lasted about 4-5 years until greed tore it all apart. It was so loud, it dimmed the lights in the surrounding neighborhoods.

@Enchantre That was the Satsop River Fair Festival in 1971. There were 60,000 people it was 2 years after Woodstock. I think a lot of music festivals popped up all over the U.S trying to copy Woodstock. My brother went to that. It was held Labor Day Weekend. I was a little young at the time, my brother is 10 years older than I am.

The Youngbloods, Spencer Davis and Steve Miller Band among others performed. I guess it was a muddy mess. Several different accidents happened too. It lasted for 4 days.

My friends and I used to make a three prong version of this.

Ours was three j's funneling into one big one. Only one of my buddies had the skills to do it. We called it a crows foot and we made them with up to a quarter of material.

We cashed it on one session and by the time you got into the final leg of the session it was dripping with resin. Lol the good ole' days. Anyone else make these?

Friend of mine is probably around @lwien 's age, born '41. He used to run one of first smoke-easys in Village, around 1970. Called "Crosby's" -- here's clip from High Times Winter '75 about it.

Thought the names on "menu" would elicit nostalgia:



Visited him last week to let him try vapes.
Quite humorous watching him look for the lighter.

If you like the Mothers of Invention, you'll love the Fugs! They are all over the place musically - from folk to pre-punk to everything in between - and their lyrics are some of the funniest (and raunchiest) ever! One of many favs.....

Before Hip Hop music hit the scene a clusterfuck hit ~ it was called Disco. The only thing that I liked about it was my girl Donna Summer may she rest in peace. Gone too soon only a few years ago.


OMG didn't like the Disco Bee Gees I liked them before Disco. Loved the song, "Got To Get A Message To You" that song I think was from the 1960s. Too much screeeeeching with the Disco Bee Gees.

Too bad only one of the Bee Gees are left. Remember when they were on Ed Sullivan? They were just kids then. I was a kid then probably 8 years old.

OK.... if we're going down this path..... many great disco artists and jams. Some of the 12" singles will have you groovin all night.

Not quite disco, but in the nearby 70's funk scene you gotta have the P-Funk! Still great stuff for any Friday evening or getting your groove on to get out and party.

George Clinton and the other Afronauts still tour from time to time. If you get a chance, get to one of their shows. It is a trip!

So many possible choices to put here it was a hard decision... but here you go.

If this tickles your funky bone and you haven't heard this shit before, get out there and find some more. It takes a bit of an eclectic taste, but nothing else comes close IMO.

EDIT: Damn this thread! Youtube didn't cut it for long. Had to get some P-Funk on the real sound rig. Have a feeling this is going to be one of those funked up weeks! Time to make sure none of the glass is close to the edge of the shelf for fear the all the funky bass will wiggle it off. Yes, funk will even make your glass shake its ass!
