Advanced E-cig users and oil/wax, how-to "one-hitter-quitter"

Been looking at the new drop solo by digiflavor and thinking it will be perfect to build for dabs but instead of popping your coils from the top I will put from the bottom and build like a stove top or something. I was on fasttech and they have a clone for $8

Recommended adding a Tendou Tokugawa clone to your shopping cart. Still the weapon of choice with a chimney-style inception coil. For something similar to the above, you can also get an authentic Rafale direct from Uwell for about twice that. It was the darling of this thread many pages back.

I have added the following note to the first post in this thread:

mod note: Since FC is not an e-cig forum, when this thread was started (note the date) none of the moderators were aware that it advocates the use of completely unsafe practices. There are much safer alternatives today. Please do not use mechanical mods unless you are 100% sure about what you're doing. Please read our 18650 Battery Safety thread, where you can find more and safer info.
A safety-conscious member who does have considerable knowledge about this subject brought the thread to our attention. I haven't read the thread so I don't know whether this issue was ever discussed, but I do know that using mechanical mods in the manner described in the first post is dangerous and could result in a battery explosion, since there is no circuit protection whatsoever.

More recent contributors to this thread have favored temperature control mods for this application. TC mods are better for flavor as well as safety. There's been very little interest in this thread since most of the image content became unavailable, so there's probably no cause for concern.

Despite continued low interest in this dabbing method on FC (where it was developed, after all), a couple of dedicated dab atomizers are now available for purchase. The above isn't one of them, it's an old Pharoah RDA, but the coil is the product of playing with these and discussing them on reddit. (All of those lost images on this thread are probably obsolete.)

First came the Molecule from Advanced Vape Supply.
PKdabmol.jpg

More like a rebuildable pen atomizer than an e-cig atomizer. Only 15mm in diameter and not at all versatile, it delivers a very hard and flavorful hit. Improved coil-flattening skills building for this and came to appreciate their function and simplicity. Also, the ideal type of wire, hex-core fused clapton. AVS was a performance e-cig wire specialists before bringing us the Molecule, so they worked it out. You can see below that it's almost like a very thin strip of mesh.

Next, came the TRVP.
TRVPflat2-5-7.jpg

Flattened coils work well in the TRVP as well, as does mesh. Like the Molecule, it features a cup or crucible (but of durable ceramic rather than fragile quartz) as well as top-down airflow. It's bigger and much easier to build on, but the flavor's not quite as intense as the Molecule, IMO.

A company rep mods a subreddit on the TRVP, and he came up with the idea of stacking two strips of wire before coiling. Combined with flattening afterward, you get the coil on top. Much easier to build and load than inception coils and achieves the same result. This one's also bigger than would fit in either of the other atomizers. It handles 20-25mg shatter dabs with ease. For shatter, there's no need for a cup, and bottom airflow still works better, IMO. The flattened coil is slow to heat and cool, which is a plus for TC. The Pharoah is hands down easiest to build, probably of e-cig attys as well.

And it just looks right.

I forgot about this thread, the best bang for your buck is a cheap addy from fastech and build your own dab kit. I am using a profile rda and vandy vape mesh. Total cost with tracked shipping to my door $14.65. The roll of mesh will last me years. This is my build :

Just received the Profile tank. Having a hard time wicking it for e-juice, but the ORFR nexMESH seemed to work very well in the trap at about 10W.

That's what l like about mesh it works on low wattage, perfect for single battery mods. And I find the taste awesome.

You'd probably like the TRVP. You curve the mesh down into the ceramic cup, which works much better for concentrate.

Edit: The Profile is one of the best attys for nic e-juice. There's a learning curve, but you're rewarded with a new level of performance. The ceramic piece is essential to the performance, though. It's spring loaded and holds the cotton against the mesh.

Gonna try painting a dab on the mesh.

Some futuristic shit, right here! Three big DTL hits and ...bliss.

Oh yah I love the flavor from mesh in temp control. Rosin tastes so good I also do lung hits and best thing a normal vape kit will not stand out.

For a one-hitter, you really don't need TC. You can just step down the power to match the time it takes to draw. But TC on the low side (370F) is producing perfect hits on the Pharoah build above. It's just another tool to get where you want to go.

Edit: Might have to do a tutorial on this juice dab for your Profile thread, @Edgedamage. You can easily flatten the mesh into a cube, a better shape for loading a dab. Need to make some unflavored, low nic AVG juice to better taste the shatter.

Test of postimg.cc

BTW, what is that white wet cotton under the mesh heater?

Still my fave one hitter. @Accept is right, if you match the voltage to the coil, no need real for temp control on a one hitter. Of course it never hurts.

I was using power mode, but I found it harsh if I over shot on the fire button. Oh trust me I know you must get awesome flavour from your build, I made my own juice and was heavy on the VG. But the wife was never cool with me vaping huge clouds. So I sold everything off, nobody wanted the RX200s so I kept it. When mesh came out I never thought of using it for dabs, but a google search brought me here for mesh and dabs. I like the flavour from bare mesh and a temp of 374F, and the clean up is so easy. Please post away in my other thread, people need to see this. Also tokes with hash and mesh are soooooo tasty, I fire at 370F with a paper thin piece of black on the mesh and awesome!

A key to performance. Still rocking the BFDCs (Big Flat Dab Coils).
bigflatdab.jpg

20-25mg shatter. An epic hit.

No need for double coils with so much surface area, most of which heats evenly.
bigflatglow.jpg

A glow shot with its predecessor. 7 wraps 30g hex-core fused clapton around a 3/16" bit. Mounting with the legs under, as in the top pic, produces a flatter surface.

The Profile is getting remarkable flavor and clouds from surprisingly little DIY honeydew, mint e-juice.
skillet.jpg

A flat coil fed and wicked from below with the Profile's squonk pin and spring-loaded ceramic channel. Messy due to mixing in shatter from the top, a sweet treat in TC.

It may be on it's last legs with the new generation of dab atomizers. Glad the rest of the world caught up - learned a lot building for them but still using the Pharoah build above daily.

Welcome back! You have young children, right? You just have your priorities in order.

AVS supplied pre-built wire for the first inception coils. Stumbled on the Molecule buying spooled framed staples wire. (Never could get the hang of working with ribbon stacks.) There's a brief history in an above post.

Just received a 30mm postless atomizer with a glass top. Add a pic later. Got it for novelty before the pricey m22 became a must-have. Works surprisingly well with a 3/4" wide flattened coil.

Following the m22 from when it was just a bigger Molecule. Then, an encapsulated heater, an SS crucible and finally a SiC crucible - all teased out in reddit videos. With the SS crucible video, half-jokingly suggested making a crucible from SiC, since it's a semiconductor. AVS' Brent PM'ed to say "shhh!" Thought he was kidding. Then he teased a pic of the mod in "SiC TC" mode, and the patent. Finally, the SiC crucible melt shot video. You can read part of the patent here. It appears to be a thin SiC nail with two electrode legs mounted in a postless deck. It's been in development for about a year.

Did it ever occur to you that it was possible to solder leads onto a stainless steel teaspoon and fire it up?

Used the donut that came with the Jet Stream for a few days. Never got it quite to where coils sometimes get in terms of flavor and efficiency from a 20mg dab. It's very consistent, but missed the thrill of chasing a perfect hit. With BFDCs, the Jet Stream kept popping the dab up into the top unvaped. Had to use a flytrap build.

And tonight's even bigger coil in the 30mm Glaz RDSA.

Hey guys..

I see a lot of posts with flattened wire coils here...
I personally got sick of the mess and the waste of applying dabs directly on top of coils and watching my dabs turn into reclaim messes, cleaning the thing was obscene, and oh the waste.

I've stepped up my game with a Sai atomizer.
I'm sure you all are familiar with it.
It's got a bucket with no holes, no gaps, etc... all the dabs are vaped, they don't go anywhere but in my lungs.
It's basically a heater coil (flat ceramic disc) below either a titanium or quartz cup.
The cup is heated from below, and, voila, the dabs are vaped. All of them.

Easy cleanup, wipe with q-tip, done.
The heater discs, well... my first one still works after 9 months of fairly heavy use (I'm using the heater with a doughnut hole in it, far superior to the solid ones).

You can check out the Sai thread here.

Don't wanna rain on your parade of flattened and mesh coils but... ew... the reclaim cleanup is too much.....

So, just wanted to let people know, the Sai is a one-hitter quitter for sure.
Personally, I take more than one hit, but that's me. Heh. The Sai works best for 1-2 hits per load. Dab, wipe, ready to go with a completely clean bucket, no reclaim, wonderful tastes !!

I can see how the coils displayed here would be 'one-hitter' because using them much more than that is catastrophic, ha !

Cheers !

Yeah, this thread has gone from being years ahead of its time to being a little behind. Still wrap coils - like the challenge, and a good one delivers an epic hit - but these may be among the last.

With these BFDCs, the entire dab is within the coil's sweet spot and vaporizes instantly with no noticeable reclaim. But there are many types of coils that work well - more than 100 pages of them.

nice that you found something that works for you. every single cup ive tried is only heated on the bottom. this causes some of the dab to run up the walls of the cup away from the heat. then that oil gets swabbed up (wasted) unless you collect it and reapply on the floor of the cup.

ive been holding off on upgrading to a cup/banger type of atty until someone offers one that heats the ENTIRE cup. walls and floor. and that cup is just around the corner!

was chatting with Brent the other day and he was telling me about it. said he thinks its “the best thing to happen to dabbing since dabbing”. told me a bit about the crucible. sounds fucking legit to say the least.

you say “pricy M22”, has there been a price point established already for it? do we already know what its going to be? hopefully the FC discount will help a bit.

The price hasn't been firmed up, but there was some discussion on reddit. Can't find it now. Brent said that the SiC crucible is expensive to make. While you'll be able to use any box mod, it might be difficult to get TC working on anything other than the mod AVS made especially for it. You'll be able to buy the parts separately. "AVS25" no longer works.

how long ago was that? he said to me that “its def temp controlled and better than you think”. i assumed that meant it was easily TC’d. i really hope so. if this thing comes out and the crucible is amazing, but you gotta use their mod to properly TC it ill be quite bummed. unless their device is a short and slim single cell mod with looks to kill.

i believe the M22 drop is coming very soon. im hoping this week. there will be an FC discount i was told. pretty stoked on this one. i havent had VAS in sooo long. haha

It is - there's a pic of it over in the m22 thread.

There's been so much heated discussion in the various subreddits every time a new reveal or sneak peek is posted, it's difficult to find the information. Brent got into the technical details. TC was worked out with a DNA mod, but at some point, they decided that a dedicated mod was a better solution. Don't remember why.
