Haven't really looked into the Solo so I read some pages from the thread. Seems like a different style of heat port design which relies on the stem tightly fitting into it. The new pod is designed so that the stems drop into the top, rather than clip onto it. The stem drops deeply enough into...
Haha yes I've had similar experiences to you. I do know some scientific glassblowers but they tend to ask too many questions and I doubt they would be sympathetic to my cause :\
I've started contacting glassblowers in the US which is probably the best option at this stage. If anyone has any...
Haven't seen you around for a while OTA. Been visiting your friends over the border again?
I like the silicone seal as well, but it only allows a 10mm OD stem to be used. The airflow is better than my PD, but I've had several requests for a "high airflow" vape. The new design allows larger...
I've been using a right angle plug for years and I find it better than the straight plug. It doesn't wear out like the straight plug because there isn't any strain on it and the cord never gets in the way so it's nicer to use as well :2c:
No unfortunately it's strictly 12mm OD. I hope to find someone who can make me a 12mm OD GG piece. In the meantime we will need to make do with silicone. I've ordered a sample of 18mm OD silicone which will hopefully be useful with bongs.
Hot Pod v2
I'm pleased to present version 2! The new version features a redesigned heat port. As much as I liked some of the advantages of the push-in silicone connection, I believe the new design is more versatile and robust. The stem is no longer inserted into silicone, instead it just drops...
I think copper is a great material. There are no health issues with it, and it has been used in water pipes for decades. It should be easier to form a seal than with stainless steel.
It's not just you, I totally agree. I think the problem with vaporizing in particular is that it takes a while to get used to the feel of it. Because it is fairly smooth as you inhale it can be difficult to judge how much you've taken in until it's too late. I remember the first time I ever used...
It's not Pan, it's a small section taken from a surrealist painting ;)
The tube is only suspended from the top but there is no movement. If you push downwards it won't move. The centre tube can be pushed upwards from underneath by removing the heating element and using a dowel to push it...
After a few discussions and thinking about it for a while, I've come up with a slight modification which I'll get made into a prototype hopefully next week. This does delay everything by a week but there's not much choice, I've really got to make this thing as good as it can be. There has been...
Actually I would say that the pod is the most open design. It is effectively a large wooden chamber with a resistor sticking up from the bottom into a glass tube suspended from the top. The difference with the pod is that the air entering the centre tube has not been preheated because it is...
I think it's one of those things that seems good in theory but would end up just being a pain in the arse and/or abused. I only think it would be of value where the manufacturer was trying to protect trade secrets and was therefore unable to fully disclose the workings and materials of the...
No worries zymos, the point I was trying to make is that it doesn't make sense that the edible part would be toxic also.
Stickstones, unless you're actually combusting it, I can't think of any reason why hot air would suddenly make it poisonous. If anyone can find some examples of wood that...
And last time I went into my kitchen it didn't look like a surgery. I'm sorry to hear about your condition. Unfortunately some natural products may be a risk for you. I have only ever met one other person in a similar situation.
I understand where you're coming from but from my admittedly...
Glass is not a particularly good conductor of heat. Stainless steel conducts heat a bit better. Aluminium conducts heat a lot better. When I designed the pod, I chose to use glass to contain the resistor because I want as little heat as possible seeping away from the hot spot. What I have...
Thanks everyone. OTA, I've designed the pod so that it can be easily disassembled by the owner. I've tried to make use of simple and easily obtainable parts so that if anything needs replacement, it can hopefully be found locally. I'd like to think that any pod that I make will last the owner a...
Although the resistors used in vaporizers are being operated well outside of their thermal specifications, they are of such robust construction that they need to be seriously abused before failure occurs. There are thousands and thousands of these resistors being used in vaporizers around the...
