    Underdog Log Vapes

I'd love to know of a way to cut a nice taper on the silicone tubing. It always ends up looking like such a hack job. It's a right pain in the arse. Anyone got any ideas?

Log Vapes Versus The Shiny Stuff?

The amperage makes no difference. If you want to change the temperature you need to adjust the voltage. 12V at the cooler end and 14V at the hotter end. YMMV.

    Christian Tokers

Vicki, I think that lwien was implying that Christians would consider the Ten Commandments universal, that they apply to all people, and it is a sin for anyone to disobey them. Furthermore, all serious Christians I have met consider that not being Christian is a sin also.

    developmental vaporizer threads

I think you've made a good point. I'm not going to go and read it because I doubt that I'll be interested, and now I'd feel like a bit of a sucker if I did. From the sounds of things though, shouldn't that thread be placed in the "vapor-related equipment" section?

I got busted . I wanna share and cry for your help ..

Oh well, so much for that idea! Despite its illegal status here, I don't worry about it too much. I've been busted a few times with small amounts and the cops just confiscated it and told me not to do it again. I have to admit that the cops in my state aren't too bad.

Hey Abysmal, send me a PM with your Paypal address so I can send you a few $$$. VWFringe, can foreigners get a MMJ card? How do you get it? Is it transferable to other states? I'm going to the US in August for a few months so this could come in handy.

Researching vapes: many safety questions & claims but little documentaion.

I don't see the point... just seems like more red tape and obstacles for this industry and no real benefit. Like Hippie Dickie says, if it's all glass, there really isn't anything to test. I don't need a certificate to tell me that something is all glass when I can see it is all glass. If...

    Aromazap/Myrtlezap/CeramicRockZap

Although there is more current going through the resistor, for a given amount of power, the lower the resistance, the lower the voltage drop across it. It's not possible to expect a resistor or wire at close to zero Ohms to drop 12V across it. You would need to pump an incredible amount of...

I know what you mean about letting the reading settle. I've been using Ohmmeters for over 30 years, so I think I've got the hang of it ;) OTA, the "measuring pin" is called a "probe" in English.

    Aromazap/Myrtlezap/CeramicRockZap

That's great that you're getting such close resistance values. Enables you to produce a consistent product. Maybe I've got a crappy supplier... they probably ship the out-of-spec ones overseas because they know it's too much trouble to return them :/ You're right, I think 15V should take care...

regulated vs unregulated power supplies for "log vapes"

Yes PWM is the way to go, particularly for a simple job like heating an element where a clean signal is not required. These cheap tattoo power supplies use a switchmode section to get the mains voltage down to about 20V, then use a simple linear regulator (LM317) to adjust the voltage. It's a...

    Aromazap/Myrtlezap/CeramicRockZap

I think this is a great idea and probably something all log vape makers should do. I ordered a bunch of those resistors and they were all different values. Not one of them was 20 Ohm despite being marked as such.

regulated vs unregulated power supplies for "log vapes"

Good idea to use the granite. Mine has rubber feet on it which I think is enough to keep it away from cooking anything. The regulator gets hotter the lower the voltage it is set to. The regulator initially gets fed with say 20V, so if it is set to 15V, it has to 'get rid' of 5V. If you set it to...

Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen that report, although I heard Bob Carr's statement and there was an article on the ABC News website which got hundreds of comments.

I agree. Having them show up only when you hover over the thread is a completely pointless "feature", whether using a phone or desktop.

    Discontinued Purple-Days Vaporizer

It's not so much to do with AC or DC, it's about what a particular power supply delivers to the vape under load. As long as you're happy with it, that's the main thing. I bought a 12V power supply similar to yours a couple of years ago, but found it disappointing. I really need around 14V to get...

    Aromazap/Myrtlezap/CeramicRockZap

Good move Rick  The sweet spot will vary depending on the resistor value in each unit. FWIW I've been running my PD for several years at 14V, but could probably go a bit higher because it has a 22 Ohm resistor. Also the PD is less efficient at retaining heat than the CRZ.

    Discontinued Purple-Days Vaporizer

Is the PD getting hot enough? Those small switchmode power supplies tend to put out very close to 12V, unlike the original Jameco unregulated supplies which although rated at 12V, actually put out around 14V when plugged into the vape.

regulated vs unregulated power supplies for "log vapes"

It might be better to get something like this instead of the foot pedal one. They're a little cheaper and you don't need to create as much waste (unless you've got an alternative use for foot pedals).
