Yeah my vote is for the 18mm too :tup: both for the reasons above and (mainly) because I use the adjustable gong I find the basket screens so much easier to swap out on the 18mm, as you can insert them from the bottom. Real pain to try to get a screen in from the top of the gong :bang:

"peak performance" is when the whole unit reaches a kind of "thermal equilibrium" ;) or in other words it's heated all the way through (wood is warm) enough so that the nano will be able to maintain a solid temp no mateer how much you hit it. From my experience, 5 mins on 10, then down to...

I find it's more strain dependent, rather than with temps... some strains make me cough and some don't. Obviously regardless of strain I get the odd time I might overdo a hit and cough a bit, but mostly it just depends on the strain for me.
