I suspect the Volt is made by Honest (or whoever actually makes their torches) just like various brands of pocketknives are made by Sanrenmu. Does yours look just like this? Hmm, that seems to be when my Honest torch sputters out too...... Saw these posts on the Jobon "welding" torch:

That's interesting that the ZB-529 is sooty. The way the flame looks on these torches it's hard to understand how there could be incomplete combustion, but obviously, there can. Good to know the Volt sputters, won't be getting that one. Shame, it's great looking. The Jobon "welding" torch...

OK, good point. However, I never combusted, and I wasn't getting much vapor, so I don't think the heat was that high. The abv wasn't evenly browned, but it was light brown at most.

Hadn't looked at the thread for a few days, thanks for the help people! So far just the 6.5 Al stem, and the included Honest lighter, with Xikar butane. I carefully read the thread and instructions, seemed like I needed to get the center of the cap red to get vapor, maybe I was overheating...

It doesn't smell like cedar to me, I'm familiar with that smell. It smell kinda like mold. I'm not saying it IS moldy, just a similar smell. It is fading, but I don't like inhaling from something that smells like that. Thanks for replying. I'm not sure I agree with you about the brown color...

When I worked for the cable company, several years ago, this was a common request from customers. We would relay it to mgmt., but they were completely uninterested.

So I did a couple of sessions with mine last night, the brown color on the cap seems to be fading into purple now. But the smell, which seems to be coming form the wood, is still present, although less. Has anyone else noticed this? It doesn't smell like wood to me.
