I've found no issues with using the stock unit (plus bottle cap). I don't think the learning curve is that significant. Draw slowly but not so slow as to let the light go out before it starts flashing. Boom. Money.

I never stir. My ABV looks chocolate brown, is crispy, and is pretty uniform.

The only thing I don't put in ISO is the heating block.

With the bottle cap method, I never stir and get great ABV. I lift the lid off when complete and scrape the lid against the rim of the glass jar that my ABV goes into. That's good enough until I decide it's time to soak the lid in ISO. But, I think I must be one lazy bastard!
