The J-hook thread!

Picked up this stem from GVB last week, finally gave it a whirl tonight. Absolutely love it, was able to crank the TM2 to 8.5-9 and it was so nice and cool.

I never realized how much more comfortable it was going to be to use the tm2 in this position either. Really love it.

First Jhook stem I've owned and I'm really really happy with it. Not sure if GVB is on this forum or not but, if he is, you got a happy customer here :rockon:

Maybe a little pricey, but hey, it's on sale....!:

I received the j-hooks from DHGate (https://www.dhgate.com/product/16mm-diameter-thickened-18-8mm-glass-hookah/754850666.html) a few days ago. I bought the version with the flat/thin mouthpiece. As this is my first j-hook, I have no comparison, but I personally think the quality is very good for the price.

So far I have used the j-hook with the Vapman and with the TM2. I am not yet completely convinced with the Vapman, the taste is very muted. With the TM2, however, it works excellently - the vapor is very strongly cooled and large clouds are possible without coughing.

Holding the j-hook in my hand together with the TM2 is still a little unfamiliar. At first I used two hands, but that feels stupid and is no fun. Now I turn the body of the TM2 towards the j-hook and can hold everything in one hand. It doesn't feel quite ideal either, but it works. How do you do it?

The j-hook will definitely stay on my table, I currently use it almost as often as my normal glass stem for the TM2. As you can see in the following picture, I also got "artistic" and made a stand for the j-hook. I'd say I'm still a long, long way behind the other artisans on FC, but at least it works.

Yep, this is the way, it just does not work as well with this hook as it does with the OGB original sidecar hook that is more expensive (and does not even need the spikes) or my GVB u hook stem either...

I'm glad the vapman can at least clear it so you could test even if it is ultimately not an ideal experience? You may find other uses for it though!

I have a last year's Tinymight-J-Hook-With-Agate-Cooling-Marbles, from GVB, as per picture. It has same diameter both ends. Very nice taste and handling the TM2 but the opening is too wide for me, I am used with JHooks, narrowing at the mouth end. So I thought buying a mouthpiece, from GVB again. Would that help the cooling? I prefer a restrictive mouthpiece, but I would buy only if it helps with more cooling.

I now have attached to it with an o-ring, an old simrell vortex, a dynavap stem.
There are many mouthpieces listed on GVB site, https://goodvibesboro.com/store/Tinymight-And-Tetra-P80-Mouthpieces-c151234764
However there is so limited information for the mouthpieces and only one photo per item.
So, I guess all these mouthpieces fit to my GVB stem...
Also this one below for example, looks to have more a narrow path, it will be cooler to touch, but does it have an effect on the vapor?

Yeah I like to get mine tapered, but a mouthpiece is a good way to resolve that, those ones are left wide open so a mouthpiece can be used... The ones from tiny stems do look nice, he has had other wood ones from other makers before too, you can get one custom made from a woodworker too if you are picky about the wood and mouthpiece opening and style etc... However I would like to get one that had a steel lining, instead of having wood be in the pathway, I'm personally not so crazy about using a wood mouthpiece on my lips in general although it should be fine I know... So it also suggest checking out rogue wax works for his acrylic titanium lined mouthpieces as well or reach out to him since he can also make you one custom for your preferred air flow and style... (some of the woodworkers can do steal lining for their stems and mouthpieces too like I know Alan and others do) there are so many options!

Oh, definitely! I'm already using it with my TM on a regular basis and I'll also have to experiment more with the Vapman. So I'm very glad I got that hook and it will definitely not be my last one.

Thank you, I also prefer steel mouthpiece. Atm I am using it with the OG vortex attached. It feels better drawing from the narrow steel, than the wide glass. The spiral inside the stem provides additional cooling. But it looks awkward to use it outside.

Understand. I posted the link from GVB, as he lists mouthpieces from "stem in France" who is closer to me.
Alan is RWW?

Oh yeah it is tricky when you are in other countries unfortunately... I'm sure he could make one with steel lining at least and maybe even the steel tip for the actual mouthpiece end? Sorry Alan is heat island toasty top, rogue is another but I think they all ship anywhere though maybe expensive

Which MP you believe has better cooling effect? It won't be a problem to order a single item from US.
Also the diameter of TM is 16mm? Thanks

Right angle turns have the best effect, pretty much only using my U-Hook from GVB now (previous OGB triple right angle sidecar hook with WPA was also tough to beat) so I'm not sure about the actual mouthpiece tip on its own causing much of any cooling effect at all... Unless you got one that was large enough to hold beads but I don't think that is necessary, and how much the taper restricts the air flow etc... But the mouthpiece itself shouldn't really be providing any additional cooling at all really? Or do you just mean between having a metal liner, or all wood, or if it's acrylic with metal lined... I don't know if the cooling is going to be any different between these really I'm not sure as I don't really use them myself, even the ones I have... I prefer the plain glass tip of the stems really... And the outer diameter for the stems is 16 mm, but the inner diameter is different I guess depending on the thickness of the walls, you can ask GVB for precise measurements etc but the o-rings fit all

I recently bought the Ditanium mouthpiece to use on my og glass TM-stems.
Didn't buy it for the cooling but wanted something tapered and somewhat smaller diameter then the glass stem just for the mouthfeel. I'm mostly using the OG glass stem and always felt that the large diameter wasn't 100% comfortable for me.

So that was the main reason for buying it but i have to say that i was amazed by the added cooling it provides: Not just from the added length and the 'cool touch' of the metal but it feels like it actually absorbs quite some heat from the vapor too. I can take pretty huge hits before it starts heating up. On the short glass it's exactly the same size as the long glass stem but it really hit much smoother imo. Mainly been using it on the long stem tho, really excellent cooling and i love the look ant the feel of it!

I was an instant fan and i ordered a second one after trying it once!
Somehow makes drawing easier and more comfortable and i just love the mouthfeel and the shape of it: it turns the glass stem into a steampunk cigar!

Be advised: it doesn't come with o-rings and the TM ones don't really fit. I managed to make some with some silicone whip i had lying around but i also read that the crafty o-rings (?) should be the right size...

Ordered at docteur vaporisateur btw.

Edited to add a picture of it on the shorty stem:

I guess you are right. To rephrase the MP may not provide cooling unless it has some spiral or beads, but it can restrict the airflow, resulting to deeper, more comfortable draws? Anyway I am not satisfied with the cooling of the hook I bought and trying to improve, as I can see the potential and paid around 90 bucks for it, LOL

Yeah that makes sense and I think that one is a good option, I actually have it too, but I have not even tried it with anything yet! lol

I have just received the Lotus j-hook:

Sorry, but first quickly OT: @VGOODIEZ rocks! I just had the nicest conversation with Jay, he was very supportive and gave me excellent advice. Highly recommended! Thank you very much, VGoodiEZ!

About the Lotus j-hook: I had asked here about a j-hook for the Vapman and several dear and experienced members recommended the Lotus hook. And of course they were right: while the hook with the spikes from DHGate doesn't quite fit the Vapman for me, the Lotus hook is simply perfect. Form factor, handling, appearance, performance, taste - simply awesome. Thanks for the tip, guys, you're the best!

EDIT: I’m actually talking about this Sherlock:

I’m soooooooo hyped for this. Ordered it in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep and found this gem lol. I’ll get some real life pics too when it comes!

I’ve attempted to order from GVB like 25 times 😂 I either miss the drop, everything is 14mm or everything is blue. I’m an 18mm and anything but blue kind of guy. Do I wish it was a couple inches longer? Don’t we all. Do I wish it was a uhook? Maybe, but I know this will be a useful quality mini universal tool and did I mention I’m hypeeeeeed?

For those of you who want cheap, spikes AND clearance for most devices……..
