Underdog Log Vapes

@underdog and @underdogette,

My Underdog performs much better than I thought was possible for any vape. I am finally able to feel somewhat relaxed, both physically and mentally. I've slept well the last few nights, too. All of which I've needed for so long.

As a disabled, klutzy medical user (unofficially), an Underdog is exactly what I needed. First of all because it does exactly what I need it to do; it extracts good stuff from plants quickly and efficiently, then gives it to me. It helps my super-tight body and mind relax. Without modification. Which my other vapes haven't done, even with modification.

As someone who uses cannabis largely to combat pain and spasticity from MS, a big part of what I want is to get an effective dose quickly. That is, I often want to be fucked up, now. I don't want to savor the tasty vapor, and I don't want big hits from big loads; I want to be able to forget about my pain for a while, and I want to receive it from a small load or multiple small loads. I want to be able to escape my mind. And that doesn't come from lower-temperature vaping. It comes from an Underdog.

Why the Underdog is a great "medical" vape, and why I feel it could (or should) be marketed that way:
  • It performs like a pro straight out of the box. Zero modification necessary.
  • It's so easy to use, even for the clumsiest of hands.
  • Hard to damage anything.
  • In terms of performance, it's in a totally different league from the three other vapes I've used and own (Aromed, Silver Surfer, Arizer Air).
  • It's easy to use, unlike the SSV, which is not fun to use if you are shaky or unstable because you have to hold a piece of glass mid-air against another piece of glass. Not easy (or fun) when you can't control the movement of your hands and arms very well. (Try to envision Michael J. Fox using an SSV.)
  • Nothing to break, unlike the Aromed, which has important parts that can easily break, even if you're not a klutz. The Aromed is marketed as a medical device. Underdog blows it away as a medical device.
  • Nothing klutzy about it.
Basically what it all comes down to is that the Underdog is easy to use, easy to maintain, not gonna break, and does everything I want it to do. Which is not true of any of my other vapes.

Hello FC! I am a new member of this forum. I found this through reddit.com/r/vaporents and I will buying a Underdog very soon (probably on 4/20 sale)

Good find (s). You will like FC, and an underdog vape.

I've only had mine a few weeks but since then I used my mighty once, and hit off a friends pax once. All the rest of my herb has been run through an underdog.

And now thanks in no small part to FC and this thread, I bought a portable battery pack to make my underdog more portable. It works great.

I was looking for the battery pack part of the forum what pages did you find info on this? I would love to use it on the go. Any advice on starting something like this would be great.

I found it helpful to go back about twenty pages, and read up. That pretty much answered all my questions. And some more I did not know I had. From memory though the 5 battery pack/charger, and six, 18650 Panasonic batteries was $54 from amazon.

I think I have begun to understand why I believe it's very common for Underdog owners to water their dogs. Consequently, I'll be looking to get some kind of water device. But I don't know how or where.

I assume local headshops are probably not the way to go. So that leaves the Internet. Where on the Internet do I go to find a nice bubbler for my Underdog?

I need something very stable, that I can't accidentally knock over; something that works easily with the gong stem. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Lots of inexpensive items here, I recommend a d020, d020-d, FC-UFO, or gb/fc 187.

I don't know much of anything about glass, but I almost have to assume it should be relatively easy to find some kind of female-female adapter that would allow me to use this bubbler with my Underdog, with the gong stem. That should be easy, right?

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
So, what types of generic glass wands work with the UD? I own several 19mm straight wands.
And what is a general good warm up time with a normal 12v connection?

That's why I own 8 dogs, and always contemplate more - Sterling service, unmatched craftsmanship, and Bang Zoom performance! You're in the groove man... Aarfff!!!

Hey, Fuckers.

Dog waiting patiently for me at my door when I got home this evening. First impressions: Yeah, I had an idea of how small this thing would be, but it certainly is quite diminutive. I think maybe seeing @Aimless Ryan using his banksia dog somehow distorted my expectations, I'm thinking maybe that was slightly larger than is standard for a non-pod breed of dog. Visually this dog is quite appealing, although this was also expected as so many posters here consistently show off their photogenic dogs. Functionally? This runs a tad warmer than I would have thought, it is quite warm in the hand, not uncomfortable at all but very noticeable. The standard wall wart seems really short to me, will definitely hook up the extension (which was included) soon. And again, functionally? Yessssssssssss... this little guy puts out the vapor, I want to hit it again but I've still a few things to do tonight before I can completely turn off my brain. A paltry amount of herbage has got me in a great state.

So happy that it has arrived and that it is all it is cracked up to be. I find that these days it takes a lot for something to even meet expectations and not be disappointing. The fact that I was able to use it successfully on my first tiny stem is a great sign, I'm sure I'll get even better utilization once I am fully accustomed to how my dog barks. This product easily lives up to what I hoped it would, no small feat, and I have little doubt it will exceed these hopes in the near future.

I'll be sure to post photos and further thoughts sometime! @underdogette and @underdog thanks so much for putting out a great product! Much love!

It seems perhaps my dog was not fully heated on my first session. I went back for more an hour later and my goodness, this dog seems to run hot! I'm going to pick up one of those cheap dimmers from the 'Zon soon, if I don't hold the dog by the base versus the upper half where the heater is situated it is a bit too hot to touch. Using the nylon and stainless direct draw I actually saw a small piece cherried, I'll probably need to push the screen back just a tad bit from where it comes stock.

Also, I have heard numerous folks speak about the great flavor that can be obtained with a log / dog but it seems to be going straight to popcorn every hit. Obviously it is better it run on the warmer side and be adjusted down than vice versa. This place I'm renting has always been a bit weird with the electricity - a third of the outlets are dead, and light bulbs burn out way often, so that may be playing a role if somehow this place is wired hot. Hopefully moving the screen and dimming it down a tweed will be all I need to do, however if any veteran cares to chime in, feel free!

Alright, I get that 12v is the standard for the UD. This Le Mini was mentioned as possibly working with the UD plus It would double as a cord extension. Anybody use this or can recommend a voltage control?
s-l1600.jpg
I use that one and prefer it over the old school dial dimmer. It only steps down, so if you need less volts in your voltage control it will work. Otherwise I haven't had any issues when pairing it to my 15v.

Have you tried using the extension cord yet? If not, that will tame your dog a bit. Also, did you get any of the stems that go around the heater inseam of inside? If find those hit a little cooler than the SS tipped stems. Especially if you don't use an o-ring for a seal/stopper. Happy training and don't be afraid to ask questions. Welcome to the pack!

Yes, even with extension it is pretty hot. Tried one round with the glass direct stem and still got a very popcorn flavor profile. Going to try moving the screens a bit tonight and I'll have that dimmer in a couple of days.

One thing I've noticed is that because so much heat from the Underdog enters my mouth, compared to my other vapes, there seems to be an odd flavor (or perception of an odd flavor). I tried to let the air cool by using the gong stem with a female SSV adapter and a whip, but the stem broke before I was able to take a hit.

I inhale much slower now than I did in my first-use video, but the air/vapor is still pretty hot when it enters my mouth. It feels like that odd flavor diminishes with slower hits, though, which is why I think a whip or water tool will make my dog's vapor much easier to enjoy.

Still, my Underdog blows away my other three vapes.

Had a chance to use the dog with battery pack while camping last weekend. All was well if we were in the tent or otherwise out of the wind. It was a windy weekend and if you decided to use the dog in the open, you were in for a disappointment. The wind constantly blowing over the business end cooled the dog even at 13V. Holding a hand over the opening would help, but it kind of became a pain in the ass. Don't get me wrong....great results at 12.5 in a protected area. Just wanted folks to know their results would be marginal at best if the wind is blowing. This is really not surprising. I have read Underdog's advice about blowing into dogs that were running hot to cool things down.

Good to know. Also a consideration for camping stoves. I have come up with lightweight wind shields for ISO camping stoves. Medical grade ISO is multipurpose for outdoors anyway.
Maybe preheating it with an aroma cap to get the metal to temp? :hmm: Also there are ways/methods/actual wind screens to play with air restriction for camp stoves that have about the same diameter as the UD. I really don't want to lug extra heavy gear but anything lightweight to help it conserve power and withstand some wind would be a plus.

Another consideration is where the UD draws its air. From the top to the core then through the stem right? A taller walled model might be somewhat more wind resistant?
Or a fake wall. something tube shaped enough that might slide over the base and unit as protection. Then slip up slightly a few inches as a wind guard. could even have a ring of holes around the top. Or sumthin'.

Also Is the lack of air restriction of the UD or so I'm guessing. Watched @Aimless Ryan 's UD vids and got that impression anyway.

Bad under powered loop - Ramps over time to get to full heat, then cools off quickly due to lack of restriction (and perhaps cools the elements in windy conditions), so it warms up air inside the length of the vapor pat more slowly. Been in that loop with other less powerful vapes.

IS preheating the SS tip for the UD a thing with anybody? tx

Does the Underdog perform just as well without water? I can't have any glass right now and I am extremely clumsy. What are your experiences with direct drawing. Is the vapor still high quality?

I only use my 'Dogs with Direct draw stems and the experience is wonderful, I get big tasty hits and cough rarely when hitting dry. For me using a bubbler makes for less tasty hits and huge coughing fits plus glass to keep clean and/or break so I for one see no benefit to using water with my dogs or for that matter with any vape. (except maybe the lotus with the orbiter on rare occasions)

But like i said I never really liked bongs in 30+ years smoking and haven't seen any advantage for me to vapebong in the 6+ years I've been vaping (I tried to like it and own a couple watertools it's just not for me).

I'd say it performs about five times better than any of my other vapes. I can't confirm yet, but using a whip seems to tame the heat thing I mentioned.
