-Silver color is going to radiate the heat away more than black and also absord less radiant heat.
-I've seen the black paint come off on black Solos. I don't want to deal with this shit anymore.
-I like the looks of it.

Great post, and story. Thanks.

However, the top line above is actually dead wrong, counter intuitive as that is. Black things radiate heat best of all. This is why heat sinks on electronic parts and your car radiator are black.

Shiny stuff is just the opposite. It's shiny because light readily reflects off it (rather than being absorbed) so it doesn't radiate as much. Peek into a thermos bottle, it's shiny inside for that reason.

The engineering term for this is emissivity. It's a relative measure against a 'black body' (therefore highest emissivity) of 1.0. Notice on the table below, while 'paint' is nearly 1, polished aluminum is like 1/25th that at about .04. The painted surface will be 25 times more effective at radiating heat in this case. Polished is a 'worst case' WRT emission basically. In fact, Pyrometers (IR thermometers) will show a higher temperature in such cases if you do nothing more than paint the hot surface (a common 'trick' to get more accurate readings).

http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/emissivity-coefficients-d_447.html

The cosmetic advantages are above question IMO, but the thermal reasoning is not. Obviously being black is not critical to Solo performance so I say 'get the one you want'.

Thanks again for the enjoyable and thought provoking post.

Hey guys,
I just came here to read the comments...

Lol, just kidding, I'm here to introduce myself to this good old little grail of cordless vaping.
And possibly ask some questions in here where surely all the info in world about Solo is.

So, where am I coming from?

Like many others, I've stupidly introduced myself to vaping with portables.
Also like many others, I've got a cheap crap for the first try.
Luckily, it worked enough to show me what vaping is about, so even that crap has managed to convert me into 100% vaporist.
Knowing that the vape i was using was crap, I've upgraded.
I was still hesitant to buy any large desktop (only if I knew how much better they hit back then) so it was the Iolite.
At that time, the Iolite was probably the king of portable vaping. There were not many good portables out there especially in EU.
The Iolite was a great upgrade, the first actually decent vape.
About a year later, I've finally looked into desktops. And again there were not many choices at that time and place.
I could only choose between the 'cano, EQ and HA.
And EQ it was.
Wow, I knew I should have got that one at the beginning.
That EQ has probably served the most of any of my vapes.
Actually, this EQ is the only unit that I had never a single problem with except accesory breakage
(Cyclone bowls really love to get broken, all 3 of mine are dead by now).
The first vape crapped out completely after few months,
my Iolite has gas flow and ignition problems,
my MFLB has been replaced once because of torn screen,
my Cloud bamboo broke itself from heat and internal pressure and it's replacement EVO is glitchy and prone to overheat.
The EQ is few years old already and still works like new.
This is one of reasons I want to go for Solo. I like Arizer from my experience (even if it is just one unit).
So after the EQ i also got a MFLB and a Cloud (replaced to EVO).
Currently, I exclusively use the EVO at home and the Iolite outside.
The EVO is a beast (I'm just praying that it will survive until I get another replacement) but the Iolite is not really keeping up.
I struggle with the ignition and gas problems and when I get it to work, it's noisy, harsh and weak.

So I want a portable upgrade. Something true and tested. Something that will get at least a little closer to the desktop performance.
I thought I would just skip the Solo and wait for the upcoming vapexhale portable.
With the experience I have had so far i would predict it like this:
Waiting like 2 years until it comes out, then another year until EU version comes out and then another year to let them treat any glitches...
...no thanks. I'm just going to wait for the EVO replacement and I'm done with waiting.
The Solo has been around for a long time and I've seen most of its cons slowly resolved by model updates as time went.

So, this was the introduction, it got longer than I've expected, but knowing the story can help with answers :)
The trigger that made me order a Solo setup was the availability of 18mm PVHES GonG. That piece is next to impossible to find here.
The vapefiend is the only place I know where I could get a whole Solo setup with these.
These PVHES sell out fast as fuck and restock rarely.
So when I recently found it restocked and only one last gong in stock, I had to take it.

This is the setup i ordered:
Silver Arizer Solo M1T
+ charger
+ 2 default stems
+ screen pack
+ Ryot carry case
+ 2x mouthpiece caps
Stealth mouthpiece
PVHES 18mm turbo GonG
Polycarbonate grinder
Red JyAR

Silver Solo M1T:
I've chosen the Silver one because of
-Silver color is going to radiate the heat away more than black and also absord less radiant heat.
-I've seen the black paint come off on black Solos. I don't want to deal with this shit anymore.
-I like the looks of it.
The M1T model seems very promising.
It should have better airflow, that could be a plus since I'm coming from EQ and EVO that have little drag.
Passthrough charging - Can be a good feature...
...but I've heard it's really bad for the battery so it should be used while charging as little as possible, right?
I've also mentioned heat, but I don't have a clue how hot it actually gets.
All of my vapes get hot somewhere. Iolite on the front, EVO on the top, MFLB on the bottom, EQ on the glass. If it's actually going to be cool/warm on the whole enclosure it would be great.

Mouthpiece caps:
Has anyone tried this? On the stock photo they look just like MFLB battery caps.
They supposedly close the load in a stem for travel.
One Q I have is how long a stem taken out of the Solo takes to cooldown if I wanted to store a partially vaped load with these and not melt them? From the looks of them I assume about 1-2 minutes.

Stealth mouthpiece:
I liked the small size of it. The classic stems can look awkward.
Anyone having one of these? Can they be used alone without burning yourself?
I am accustomed to the hot output of a MFLB and Iolite, so it can be hot, I just don't want it to be really HOT.

PVHES 18mm turbo GonG:
I've got this one for compatibility with all of my vapexhale glass.
I've heard the new improved airflow model doesn't really need anymore airflow improving so the turbo option could be an overkill.
But I think that even if there was too much airflow I would just relax into pulling slower and tell others to pull slowly too.
I think it would be more comfortable to pull slowly on low-drag stem than pulling hard on restrictive stem for the same airflow.
Am I right?

Polycarbonate grinder & Red JyAR:
Well these have nothing to do with this setup they're awesome and not available anywhere else, so I added them to the order.

I also wanted to add a heat-resistant silicone ring that holds stems securely in the unit.
It was out of stock sadly...
Can I use a Volcano easy Valve sillicone ring? I think I can get one if that's the right size.

So, did I choose well?
Is this going to satisfy my portable needs and be a good portable complement to my EVO?
I really hope so, about 400$ went into this setup.

And I'm going to read this thread. But holy shit it's over 1200 pages! I thought the MFLB or EVO thread was going to be first beating 1000 pages. Well, this is not really a surprise, this thread is very old and the Solo is crazy popular.

Hey brother - You've made your best choice and for this 70 yr old :myday: there's nothing better out there for a single toker except for the two high-end units, Herbalizer & Volcano, but the SOLO outperforms in speed, convenience, ease of use, blah  blah

If one enjoys taste-sampling, discovering the results of differing temps & different strains makes this unit a connoisseur's must-have! :2c:

I never had a real appreciation for the variations in taste of well-cured bud in the past, and the temp control is a blessing with my COPD! :luv:

Someone has to play the class nerd I guess. I'm hoping to increase our collective understanding of the physics that controls our favorite devices.......and hopefully a few smiles along the way.

The overall goal remains helping others make informed choices I think. That rests on useful information. I try to provide the background behind my rants for that reason, and hope those that question will ask why rather than blow it off.

Thanks for the kind words, they are important to me.

Hold both buttons until it powers up, release both, then hold down the button on the right(down arrow) until it shows your previous temp, the first "light show" is current battery level..... next is temp level. I hope this helps.

Guys, that was quick! Ordered my SOLO yesterday afternoon, got it today! It was from an Australian seller though. Paid more than what I could get it from the US but they will honour the 3 year warranty and I will have someone to talk to, should something go wrong. Won't get a chance to try it out until tomorrow. The first thing that struck me was that it was smaller than I was expecting, a bit weightier and much more high quality that it looks on vids and pics. I thought it would be cheap plastic but it feels quality! Can anyone advise what I should do before first use. I think I read about putting it on charge and turning it up to 7 for 12 hours? (burn in or something) is this correct? Thanks guys, can't wait to try it out!!

I asked the same things two days ago. Just check the last few posts on page 1205. Will pick mine up from the customs office tomorrow. I'm so excited I can't sleep. :haw:

Plug it in and let if charge for 8 hours.
Then remove from charger and turn on to temp 7 for 2-3 full sessions
( let it turn Itself off,only 12 minutes )
I say with top open to let it burn off any residue.
You can wait 2-3 minutes between burn offs.
You may smell the metal heating up
That will go away with use.
After the 3rd one grind up some bud and enjoy.
Start at 4-5 you can always adjust up or down.
After. a few uses the Solo will go to level 1
you should recharge for about 2 hours ,
that's about how long it take for the charging light to go solid green @ level 7

Thank you Al! Just what I was after, I read back to the posts on 1205 but still wasn't sure how long to do it for. I had forgot about the cut-off feature.......12 hours ^^^ haha what a noob! That would be one hell of a session!!! Cheers for the great advice, I'll whack it on the charge when I get home :)

I have never gotten my last temp to come up. It doesn't matter (I run 4-5 pretty consistently) but I also can't kill the start-up beep- thinking it might have to do with my dexterity issues.
If that's my only annoyance with the Solo, I'll take it!

I use my SOLO all day long everyday I'm at level 2 on the indicator lights when I charge!

I have a @OF GIZMO hooked up to a @Pipes stand.
When I get up for my wake and medicate before my first cup of coffee my SOLO is very charged and ready to be a handy tool!
Once the SOLO is charged the GIZMO shuts off!
This prevents over charging!

That's the down button, hold it for about a second and a half. Sometimes I turn it down to 0 when I have it on my power adapter to take a break and holding the button down sets it to 0 and I get confused (wonder why...). Somewhat impractical but you could use a pencil eraser end to press the up button to kill the beep. You won't get confirmation that it turned off so hold the pencil in place for 2 or 3 seconds. Verify no beeping by turning it off and then on again.

Welcome to the Solo club Seek ,

The Solo is what I picture in my mind as what a VXH portable
would be like ... with smaller wrist bands .

Yes, I also imagine it like this. The Solo looks like portable Cloud without a glass exchanger.
The same polished industrial looks with a glass mouthpiece that I love.
I think the VXL portable actually will be like Solo, probably slightly bigger with more batteries and glass exchanger.
However that's probably really far future, the Solo could still be the best option in this category for years.

With my older Solo , I can use it with the PA for water vaping on level 7
plugged in for 3+ hours . Then the Solo can get a little hot , but Not

Sounds good. The EQ is actually the most insulated vape I have.
It only gets hot on delivery system, and that's where every vape gets hot.
The actual unit never even gets warm anywhere on the enclosure.
So I think I shouldn't expect the Solo to get hot like OG Cloud.
Even when it's small so there is little space for insulation.
Most of the EQ volume is it's super thick 20mm double layer air insulation, the actual active core is very small.
I'm propably never going to use it for 3 hours straight, not even one I think, so it sounds good.

Great post, and story. Thanks.

Thank you for correcting me on this. Every correction is appreciated.
It wasn't really any significant point in my deciding and as said above it doesn't even matter if it doesn't even get hot.
I've chosen the Silver one mostly for it's looks and lack of paint.

Someone mentioned they bought the silver Solo because they didn't think that the paint wore off? I've seen silver units with the paint wore off. I have a black one that's over a year old and I have no paint wearing off.

The Solo makes a good first vaporizer with its ease of use and cleaning. You just charge and you are good to go.

I would rather get them at a store if I could what exactly do I ask for though ? I wanna try to go to Home Depot or a hardware store but don't know what to ask for as in size and material for the o-ring ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

Save your gas. While the size is standard (No. 112), the material is quite special. You need 'high temperature silicone (500F)' all of which seem to be red in color (usually so inspectors can spot them). It is definitely not a Home Depot part, the much cheaper black ones they sell are much more appropriate for home plumbing.

Edit: I just lied, the right size is 113 it seems (still can't find the bag....), can anyone confirm that? Thanks to Stu for pointing it out in PM.

I'd definitely call and ask about 'high temperature silicone'. That part is very important. You're in the US? If you fail, which I think you will unless you try specialty shops like "hydraulic fittings" (common in most cities), Google is probably worth a try. My local fitting shop had them.

You're in the US, right? If you fail in your search PM me. I should have the last of a 100 ring bag somewhere (it wasn't where I expected it to be). I should be able to scrounge up a couple even if I can't find the bag.

Remember, you really need to be careful fitting them. Clamp down too much and you're very likely to break base tabs.

Good luck.

PM me your address. I got a pack of 5 from puff it up and can send you one via usps.

They were a little thick, I had to slice a small section off with an exacto knife to get the top to screw back on.

Well, still loving my Solo after six months of use !
My favorite way to vape cannabis so far !
I'll tell you though what really helped, and I'm not making a plug for any other reason other than to say IT WORKS, and I'm very happy with it. Also the owner of the company is awesome to deal with. Again, NOT a friend or colleague. I'm just posting this so people can have an opportunity to improve their Solo performance, honestly. If the editors have a problem with it I suppose they can edit out the hyperlinks.
So, if the links don't work, that's why.
First of all, the store is located online at this address .
If you want more first-hand details, the FC Forum thread is located by clicking here.
I hope no one minds I post this, I just have a great experience with this HC battery, the life is prolonged and the performance is better.
ANYWAY, that said, I just met another new Solo user, and he sounds like me at the beginning... heck I'm still there ... with exclamations like 'ohhh the taste' and 'ooooo the cool vapor' :) :)
So dear fellow FC Forum members, enjoy your SOLO and keep those reviews and tips coming !

I'd literally just PM @CentiZen for a battery replacement pack .
By All accounts , the battery works amazing and gives it new life .

I charged my Solo for 8 x hours last night, going to do the burn-in's and trial tonight! So I found my glass pieces (straight and bent) fit in easily. Didn't even have to heat up the unit. Even though it is brand new the stems are pretty loose. So what size o-rings are you all using? We are metric in Aus but even if you can tell me imperial sizes I'll convert it. I saw OF mentioned they have to be a high temp silicone. Any advice would be great as I would like to tighten up things a bit if I can. Then I'll have to work out how to get them to Aus.

Also the screens that came with my Solo are too big to sit in the bottom of the bowl. Am I meant to cut them down a bit or bend them (dome) and push them in?

Cheers guys, can't wait to get vaping!
