I have a question... Does anyone know what the "vent mod" to the solo is?

Alternatively, you may buy a pack of .583" (14.8mm) screens and put one or two of them in the actual unit, it helps with air flow. I have one in mine right now, and it eases the restriction. :D

I'm confuzzled , the charger isn't a power adapter and the power adapter isn't a charger. I'm no electrician guy but I didn't know that was possible. It just seems like a lousy way to make money to me; like I'm buying a broken product I gotta fix. I really want one but I can't convince myself its not a waste of money, I feel like they're robbing me forty some bucks.

Mines is charging now too without the blinking lights. I unplugged the charger since I always seem to forget to unplug. I just tried ten minutes ago to charge it and now it's charging with old charger.

EDIT
It's now fully charged and working. Anyone runs into this, make sure to unplug charger for a day or two.
That's really crazy! mines still working, it must have to do with the range of power the charger possesses like OF said.

Well, at the risk of sounding glib, it obviously is possible. In fact, IMO, it's a pretty logical way to do it.

The power requirements are really entirely different between charging a battery and replacing it. To charger you need a higher voltage and lower current (since you can't charge the battery too fast anyway). A pretty modest supply will do the job easily.

Running the vape takes a lot more power. It's at a lower voltage, since it's got to more or less match the lower battery voltage rather than the higher voltage needed to overcome the battery condition and force charging. However, since we need more power at this lower voltage, we need LOTS more current. This calls for a more expensive (by far) supply, one that is not a very common 'size'. It's going to cost a lot more.

You wouldn't be willing to pay the extra $20 (IMO a pretty good bargain, considering) for the more powerful supply (in case you need it to run as a PA) and probably a similar (or nearly so) increase in the electronics in the Solo (and decrease in reliability too, of course) forced by the need to change the voltages electronically since they no longer are supplied at the correct value for the job? Meaning you'd have to make the 12 Volts for charging from the 9 Volts (but higher current) provided to support the PA function not everyone is wanting.

Consider the PA form MFLB, forcing everyone to buy one with their box would bring the cost of the PA down, but drive the customers bonkers I bet.

A possible alternative is the scheme some laptops and cell phones use where you can charge while running from the battery. This is not really the same, of course, the battery needs to charge a large percentage of the time.....generally the very thing guys are trying to avoid. And again, cost and complexity would go up since Solo now cleverly uses the same processor that controls the heating to control the charging instead in that mode. Sharing the display and some of the internal components. This allows them 'lower hardware count' and gives more reliability through having fewer parts in play.

So I get the frustration, but IMO it's a very logical and very 'customer friendly' way to do it. I like it, although I'm not too big on the apparent voltage sensitivity.....

That's really crazy! mines still working, it must have to do with the range of power the charger possesses like OF said.

Lucky guess......

Bummer of a problem (they all are to the guy with 'em I guess). Lucky it's got a simple solution for many/most. I wish we knew what the bad supplies were doing, anyone have one and access to a meter?

I think I posted about this. I messed with this some but found I got much better results with a small piece of wire. I figured the metal part of the screen mechanically blocks over 3/4 of the area, the improvement can be much better.

I ended up with an inch or so long piece of fairly small wire (.022 sounds right?) bent in a V shape. To keep it in place I bent the 'arms' out enough so they'd spring out and grip the walls. The last bit was to bend the ends of the arms outward at the tips so they hit the wall square on. This way only the tips of the arms and the angle part at the bottom block the airflow. 3 tiny points.

I abandoned it after I started messing with these 113 rings though. It no longer seems as useful.

glassblowersdirect does not ship internationally, this means I need someone from the states to help me out by sending him the HT (with extra tip :D)

So... :) I know there's more than few people who I can count on :)

Gentle Friends,

Without further burdening you good folks I've been pressing on with the testing of my modified o-ring project. Work, work, work. Over time it's slowly relaxed it's grip on the stem enough so that when hot it could sometimes move a bit due to gravity. That is in some positions it could rotate a small amount. Normal and not a problem, but one of the things I was hoping to eliminate. I was thinking about changing the notches to see if that would help.

Then I took a close look at the ring. As you might guess, it'd developed a shiny spot on the inner crown of the ring where it contacts the glass. The ring was doing exactly what it was designed to do by the maker, it was improving the seal.

So I took some 220 grit paper, wrapped it into a tube a little bigger than a pencil and lightly buffed off the shiny spot leaving a series of fine scratches in the rubber going the same direction as the stem (so rotation would be against them). I did this in an area several times as wide as the mark I was removing so alignment wouldn't matter. It works great. For those trying to follow along with this, I recommend this as a useful tune up.....at least for now.

With the modified ring, using the stem is like shutting the door on a Mercedes Benz sedan.

Third warning for avoidable back-to-back posts. Warning point given.
This might be off topic?

Lately when I wake up in the morning I have a slight uneasy stomach.
One SOLO STEM of TOP SHELF FLOWERS and I feel great.
I do not need any over the counter ANTACIDS.

CANNABIS with a SOLO makes for a perfect way to MEDICATE!

First, I wouldn't use the word burdening, more like teaching and helping. Second, I must have missed a part in the thread about adding notches. Are they a necessary part of the mod? And third, is the above post just about making sure the stem doesn't turn or move in the o-ring?

I'll probably be waiting for the rings to come in the mail a little while but I want to know what I am doing before they get here.

Hey everyone on here I finally decided to make an account after months of lurking and reading about the Solo and the Pax.

I finally purchased the Pax a week back or so only to have it taken by the police as pariphinalia (totally spelled that wrong but w/e)

I'm now looking to get the solo in a month or two since its cheaper and I won't be inclined to use it in public as I did with the Pax (too stealthy and I was in a really bad state in regards to the law)

I have a couple questions that I don't want to search the entire thread for

1. What's the minimum pack size?
2. Can you pack flower broken up by hand or does it need to be extra fine?
3. What's the maximum pack size?
4. For the stem is the straight one better or the L shaped one? Or is it preference?
5. How long does the product last before you might need a new one or repairs?
6. Any major modifications that severely enhance the vapor quality/production?
7. How long is the charge time and how long does a full charge last?
8. What is the typical heat setting that most people like? A range could suffice as an answer to this.
9. Is the company reliable? Good customer service/warrenty?
10. Cleaning is easy? Tough? Nonexistant?

Thanks for any feedback!

Sometimes I like to pack .01-.02ish (I don't have that accurate of a scale, this is just guesstimating)

Depends on how fine you can make your grinds. Generally with vapes, the finer the better since there is more surface area.

.1ish

I like the straight one better, it's personal preference though.

Depends on the product. I've had mine for a few weeks now and it's still holding up.

Nope, it's already a beast at producing vapor. There are mods for increasing air flow though.

About 4 hours charging time on a dead battery, and a full charge on 2 will last 2 hours and a full charge on 7 will last an hour.

I like to start on 4 if I'm not thinking about conserving, but 2 still gives good amounts of vapor.

Company is reliable, and usually if you buy from an authorized dealer (i.e. puffitup or planetvape) they will take care of your warranty problems unless it's some huge issue, then it has to go to Canada

Cleaning is super easy, only the glass stems get dirty. So you basically clean it as you would a glass pipe unless you want to save your reclaim.

:peace:

Sorry to confuse you, just making a joke. I don't expect to burden anyone with reading what I post, they're free to ignore it after all, the joke was I was trying to remove the burden of having to vape all that bud to find out what the subtle issues are. One of them is getting the stem gripped tight enough so it doesn't move yet not so tight you can't use it (or it blocks so much airflow it degrades the performance).

The notches are something I'm playing with to address the last issue, basically what the grooves in the PVHES do.

Yes, the small problem I was addressing with sanding the ring was the stem could turn under it's own weight in worst case conditions (hot with the stem at the worst angle).

Obama must be backed up by billionaires who don't want this to be legalized...

He is backed by big money of course, biggest in history. I'm not sure lots of those backers (like the Hollywood types) are anti drug in general, for sure not anti MMJ. FWIW I think we can still thank the evil spirit of Henry J. Anslinger.....which is wondering in darkness right now if there's any justice?

I definitely underestimated the power at number 2. Also I get better air flow with chunkier ground weed, finer stuff might clog up the air flow a bit.

Alright thanks I needed to know that information, it makes more sense why they did that now.

Just to add ,
Both the Solo and the mflb are meant to be a portable vape .
The PA is an accessory that turns them into a small desk top vape , so to speak .
Which discounts the advertised ' portable ' tag .
The PA is well worth it , if you plan on using the Solo a lot .

If you've never said " o sh*t , I'm running low on power , and I still want more " .
Then you probably won't need the PA . imo

Have you tried a dom screen? I think that might help make sure nothing blocks the holes in the stem.

I find it amazing that someone could use the solo enough to warrant the PA. For me its like going grocery shopping in a semi truck. I gotta becareful this thing gets me medicated Haha. Guess everyone has different needs and also different uses but if you have a lower to mid tolerance I would think the solo has more than enough. For me personally using even half the battery in one day is a scary thought haha don't think I would even be able to move

I've needed the solo PA for about 2 years now and will eventually get my thumb out of my ass and order it. Again, one of those things where everytime I ended having an extra buck or so I spend it on weed or fucking glass. It has to stop somewhere folks...

Always in a state of confusion and silliness♀
ONJ you made me laugh hard. If I didn't have a PA I would have to plug in my house unit which happens to be away for the moment. I can use all of my portables to dead in one day with no problem. I guess I should say what I consider dead cause we don't want that batteries that low. Full sessions time wise on eace. So that would be solo about 6, PN 6 to 7, INH 6, DV 5. I think that only adds up to about 3 hours and there is way more then 3 hours in a day. For me there is about 19 normally if I am lucky 17-18 which means I got good sleep.
